The ECW deal with TNN was similar too, if they didn't outright pay for it they certainly got no money from it. This kind of shit was in the 90s and early 00s though, the same logic doesn't remotely apply in 2019. A big part of why WWE's in the shitter right now is the monstrous money networks are putting up for as many hours of content they can shit out. They're desperate for live, sports-based programming and will get it by any means necessary, whether it's shit or not. That's the landscape right now, AEW having to pay for it would be preposterous.

It's at least a bit more marketable, or believed to be anyway. Historically wrestling has been very strong with young people under 35, if you're following the ratings threads you know that's changing fast with WWE, but the perception is still there. They're considered a powerful demographic to have as far as ad revenue goes and networks want a piece. TNA's last few deals have been godawful but the fact they've kept getting deals at all despite their poisoned brand is a testament to it. Networks still think there's value in having wrestling on.
