Actually the opposite, it convinced Vince Jr. that Magee was the next Hogan.
Jeremiah Morris
Tom Magee Vs. Bret Hart is a match from 1987 where they thought he found the successor to Hulk Hogan in Tom Magee but apparently Bret Hart carried the entire match and then he fell to obscurity. the match was untelevised and the tape was never to be shown not even to employees. Recently a woman that was helped Hart convert his footage to archive posted a photo of the tape paying played.

Now that the Last Battle of Atlanta has been found McGee vs Hart is considered The Holy Grail of wrestling tapes by collectors, the legend goes Bret carried this guy to such a great match in 1986, Vince had planned on moving on from Hogan to McGee for Wrestlemania 2, but it turned out the guy was a bust
it's been considered a point of embarrassment by Vince so the video has been locked in the WWE video vault. along with 1989 rematch.
Asher Ramirez
Cringe
Leo Thompson
>Vince had planned on moving on from Hogan to McGee for Wrestlemania 2
that has to be a huge exaggeration. They were printing money with Hogan
Leo Martin
It only took them a year to strap the rocket to Warrior's ass, and like 2 months to transition from Backlund to Hogan, Hulkamania wasn't bulletproof til WM3
Leo Sullivan
This is a pretty big deal for Bret fans
You know how good of a wrestler you have to be to convince Vince that another wrestler is great....only for that wrestler to then be exposed as a huge shitter when facing other guys?
Bret had Vince thinking this dude was ready for a huge spotlight
People want to see the match that fooled Vince

Vince has always been a shit booker and a shit talent scout who has only lucked out a few, admittedly, big times.

No this is pretty well publicized, Vince had started getting cold feet on Hogan almost immediately because he didn't think he had a marketable, youthful 'look'. Kerry Von Erich is another guy he had pegged for the spot but that fell through too.
Joseph Hernandez
>Unearthed 80s Heenan commentary

The times Vince had success it almost seems coincidental that it worked. Reminder that he stuck The Rock with that shit ass Rocky Maiavia gimmick because he legit thought that would get over. He also tried to cut Steve Austin's promos because he didn't think they were a strong suit for him. This is the same Vince McMahon who thought Mabel would be the next big thing and didn't think anyone would "get" Vader.

I guarantee you the match itself is nothing special. But that's besides the point
What makes it worth viewing is that it's something that worked Vince into such a seething shoot that he tried his best to hide it from the world. It's not like he just said "oh well, this guy's a bust; just throw his tryout match deep into the archives".....no, Vince actively PREVENTED people from ever seeing it
All because it was a reminder of how terrible his judgment was in picking a golden boy for his company

No one said it was 5 stars. The interesting bit is that this got Vince's attention and was convinced Magee was the next Hogan. Of course Vince's judgement is shit and he straight up never released the footage.
It's not like Benoit where they never mention him again but funding his shit is easy, they straight up never made it public.
This, Owen Hart's death, Droz's injury are the only pieces of footage that have never been released.
Jayden Hernandez
so in other words it was just another yarn that bret spun to make himself look good and the match sucked.

No one has seen the match so we don't know. Chances are it was atleast decent since Magee looks like he's shit and Bret has managed to get good matches with giant fat men.

Cena-Didn't draw dimes compared to Hogan

Shawn-Drugged up dick sucker with a question mark spine
The Rock-Literally tried hard to make Rocky Maivia and the Rock came into his on fruition
Roman Reigns-Never the guy and literally had to use cancer to get him somewhat over with the marks
How the fuck is this Carny still in business?

Hogan was already a star in AWA. Vince took advantage where Verne Gagne fucked up. Undercarder is Vince's only accomplishment.

Liam Perry
Cena drew money, but saying he was a failure because he wasn't the next Hogan is bullshit.
I'd argue he's his best creation. Even then, he got over from thuganomics Cena, which I doubt was Vince's idea.
Connor Mitchell
Cena and Haitch single handedly brought down ratings and draws. Sure, Cena got merchandise from the marks, but sure as hell couldn't sell out arenas and PPV buy rates with countless Randy Orton matches.
Nicholas Murphy
>Cena brought down ratings
Ratings were gonna fall anyways. I'd blame it on the shittiness of wwe in general, not Cena exclusively. Haitch was never a draw though.
Jordan Baker
What about Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Batista, Brock Lester and Roman Reigns?
Ian Phillips
Cena was one in a lifetime talent retard. It's not his fault that he was surrounded by B- charisma vacuums.
Chase King
>Cena was one in a lifetime talent retard. It's not his fault that he was surrounded by B- charisma vacuums.
Those B- charisma vacuums are why Cena is a once in a generation talent. He came in at a time when all the main event guys were retiring left and right which left him plenty of room to work.
Austin Rodriguez
It's liveleak tier stuff sure, but it's more the fact that we can't watch it despite them being so well known.
Jordan Watson
Leo Ramirez
>Rock
Got over 100% on his own after Vince's idea was a bust, unironically owes more to Vince Russo than Vince McMahon.
>Batista
Decent star, one of his few legitimate 'creations', but because Cena got THE push he probably never reached his full potential as a draw.
>Brock
Practically all the good booking through Brock's career has had Heyman's fingerprints, Vince hasn't done shit besides pay him loads.
>Reigns
A complete flop and anti-draw with no real character or gimmick until he got cancer. The cheers probably won't last either, once Vince starts working his 'magic' again.

And I understand her being concerned about getting in legal problems, especially if it's a video Vince actively tried to hide from the public....but she could at LEAST describe the entire match with text, for fuck's sake
D'Lo Brown and Droz had a match for a Smackdown taping in '99
D'Lo attempted to do his running powerbomb move on Droz
Something went wrong with the move due to D'Lo not being able to hold Droz properly, and Droz landed on his head, breaking his neck and paralyzing him for life
To this day I don't think anyone ever described EXACTLY how the move went wrong, step-by-step. That's part of why people want to see it
Nolan Moore
D'Lo was trying to do a running powerbomb on Droz but somehow slipped and Droz landed on his head. Fractured 2 vertebrae in his head and is now a quadriplegic. At the time he couldn't move anything below his neck, but he's now got some movement in his arms.
Grayson Morris
So was it /gore/?
Levi Jones
Honestly if I found this tape I'd just fucking upload it to YouTube who tf care about the legal issues
This bitch needs to stop fishing for fame
Nathan Nguyen
Droz had a habit of wearing clothes that were a bit loose on his body, he had a match against D'lo Brown where Brown tried to hit a powerbomb but the loose clothes prevented him from getting a firm grip. Droz was a quadriplegic for a while but he's since gained back the use of his arms
Andrew Bailey
No, it was just a perfectly normal move. Just one of those freak one in a million accidents.
Jack Cox
Fuck this attention whore, I could care less about it. It's not like it's Droz or Owen footage fuck off.
Charles Sullivan
Did he at least breed his wife before not being able to wank?
Brandon Myers
He married her a few days after the accident. He's got no children.
Julian Phillips
Probably a dumb question: for guys who get crippled to that extent but have no kids yet, isn't there a way to extract their sperm and inseminate a woman so they can have kids?
Christian Diaz
I'm sure there is today, but in 1999 it wasn't as much of a thing. A few years ago in Australia some woman had the sperm extracted from her husband who had just died and had a kid with it.
Aiden Clark
Dude... Bro... Isn't that how Jesus was born?
Jose Wood
I know it's morbid but I really want to see how D-Lo reacted after it happened
By all accounts he was extremely guilt-ridden from the whole thing and almost quit wrestling altogether
They said he was pacing back and forth at ringside while the medics worked on Droz. Again I know it's sick of me but I wanna see the look on his face after he realized the extent of what he did
Isaiah Jones
It was because Droz was wearing that mesh top so D'Lo lost his grip when trying to do the powerbomb.
Julian Garcia

Angel Barnes
I've heard the 'loose shirt' theory but check the gif
From D'Lo's match at Summerslam 1998 (a year earlier) from Val Venis. Val also lands on his neck
Something tells me the Droz botch happened like this in terms of positioning, only Droz's neck was more fragile and/or landed at a more crucial angle
Now before anyone overreacts, to be fair to D'Lo: right before this happened, he tried twice to lift Val for the powerbomb but Val clearly wasn't doing the necessary jump-assist to aid in executing the move. D'Lo then had to club his back twice to sell wearing him down further, then the attempted a third lift and this happened
I don't know if that sequence was supposed to happen and Val was just selling a worked attempt to escape the powerbomb (although he didn't really do the leg-wiggle thing they tend to do when they sell that), or whether Val legit got lost for a second and forgot he had to jump to assist, or even if Val just wasn't good with receiving powerbombs in general
Right after the botch happened, the ref checks Val to make sure he's good. Then D'Lo attempts it again and does the move successfully
I don't know what to believe. Maybe D'Lo was just too weak to do the move on a consistent basis. Or maybe both Val and Droz fucked up the jump-assist, and Droz's loose shirt made things worse for him since D'Lo couldn't control his landing while realizing the move was being botched
Jose Ross
>Then D'Lo attempts it again and does the move successfully
Christ I hate when wrestlers do that. If you fuck up, improvise. Don't just do the spot again.
Levi Evans
>Maybe D'Lo was just too weak to do the move on a consistent basis.
Most people forget D'Lo Brown was the shits as a wrestler and only got over because of his head wobble and the protective vest gimmick
Kayden Myers
>his head wobble
desu that shit was p based
Carson Miller
>Christ I hate when wrestlers do that. If you fuck up, improvise. Don't just do the spot again.
Yet you'll celebrate when Wakibaki drops Yokohama on his head and then picks him up and does it again.
Oliver Perez
Show me 3 occasions I did that.
Thomas Rodriguez
>Vince saw Magee and had vision of the future
>This where Onega's terminator gimmick comes from
Jack Ramirez
I think his build/height, combined with the puffed-out vest getting in the way made powerbombs more difficult. In this gif, Val's asshole is in D-lo's chin, there was no way he was getting up as he should have been lower
Elijah Bailey
Hey don't talk shit about my boy Wakibaki. He'll chop you right in your goddamn chest until it bruises. He might even break the skin eventually.
Adam Morgan
Reigns is barely into Batistas level. He's nowhere near Brocks level. And He will never be At Rocks level.
Austin Jackson
DLo has said someone threw something into the ring and it made him slip. I would call bullshit and he was just trying to defend himself if it wasnt for the fact that Droz doesnt blame him and has said it wasnt his fault. So it could be true.
Gavin Sullivan
It's just one of those shitty accidents where there is no real blame to place
Jonathan Myers
>DLo has said someone threw something into the ring and it made him slip
Not in the shoot interview I saw
The one I saw, he specifically said that he wanted to clear up rumors and that he didn't slip at all, and especially not on any ice or drink that was thrown in the ring by a fan, which was the internet rumor about the incident for years
Nathan Barnes
>i remember hearing somewhere it was caused by d lo slipping slightly while running and losing complete control
If you look at the pictures just before and after the powerbomb, it seems D'Lo didn't even get to do the running part of the move
Pic related is D'Lo lifting Droz in the actual incident. I think this was right after him lifting Droz's feet off the ground but before flipping him up onto his shoulders for the powerbomb position. Note how close they are to the turnbuckle and how they're within the ropes' shadow
Mason Harris
Pic related is Droz right after it happened....notice how his head is still close to the ropes' shadow in the corner, where his head would have dropped on impact from where D'Lo stood
D'Lo didn't even get to step forward once. The fuck-up likely happened before he could even get Droz stable on his shoulders

Gabriel Evans
Whenever some guys get in a loud heated argument or just want to yell while sounding tough, they throw their head around violently while yelling. It's done sometimes whenever they get directly in someone's face to yell at them, usually right before an argument turns into a fight
D'Lo was basically imitating that
The Miz did it before, too. See at the 0:14 mark:
