The thing about John Cena is that he as a presence encapsulated something that was happening culturally at the time- Wiggers. Roman Reigns and any other more manufactured star isn't going to work until WWE has the sense to make a character that is going to resonate well with what's happening at the time in terms of fashion, attitude, "Who do I wanna be?"

Even if you focus on white trash as a demographic, the aesthetics and things that people are going to find cool are split as media has become more and more personalized, so you're not going to see a character get one over on look alone.
