Wrestling might never reach MNW level ever again but that does not mean it cannot cross over with pop culture at large. Letting wrestlers appear in other media is advertising for the company which means opportunities for higher ratings, higher ticket sales, merchandise, etc.

The Cena era was incapable to create stars, so there's nobody who can put over your New talent. And they made the same mistake of putting just one guy as the center piece of the show.

Sure, fair vs HHH maybe made more "dimes" but the match was shit. today you can see Finn put on a 5 star match on a normal night. you can see 205 have some of the best wrestling matches in history.
