Sheamus was getting Cena-level protection that year so no way they were gonna have him tap and DBry didn't have a convincing pinning finished yet. There probably would've been another backlash if Sheamus won the match in two straight falls as I believe this was the match after that 18 seconds shit.
Backlash actually had a great 3 year stretch of very good matches from 2007-2009

It wasn't perfect, but you compare just 5 years ago to now it's almost as if they totally forgotten how to even book feuds and keep their storyline straight from week to week.
This. 2008 was the last consistently decent year. We still got great stuff afterwards like any storyline with Shawn, Straight Edge Society, Hall of Pain, etc etc. 2016 was a decent year also
