Yakuza 1 and 2 on PS2. Its crazy how so many Yakuza “fans” cant or wont play the originals. They are really fun games. Hell they are better than Kiwami 1 and 2 in some ways.

I've actually thought about giving it another chance and playing the pc port, but I don't like the levels either, so I haven't bothered. 64 and banjo kazooie style collectathons are just torture to me.
I unironically believe that sunshine improved the levels by having them change each time you enter them.

That was the least clunky game of the first three. Bionic Commando and Up Your Arsenal had tacked-on level up systems that didn't let you use the weapons you wanted to use, whereas the first weapons in the first game could be useful throughout the entire game. The grinding sections made to support this level up system also sucked ass, and tying wrench damage to this system is the most horrible thing ever. By the end of 3, several weapons are outdamaged by the wrench, and the scaling is so bad that it takes like 20 hits to kill one enemy with a v5 plasma whip. I also remember the spaceship combat part in 2 being super aids, though to be fair the hoverboard minigame in 1 was also bad. The hacking games and platforming gadgets (that hookshot thing) also got worse after 1 too, as did the writing. In 2 and 3 Insomniac so obsessed with creating a "gameplay loop" that they introduced tedium and restricted the player's freedom.
