Is there any character the mario movie could add that could get people this hyped?

It's amazing how timeless Sonic is. The fanbase is a mix of ages. While Mario is carried exclusively by neckbearded autists who grew up with him.

RPG characters would since they are the only games to try and have stakes.

DK and Foreman Spike are confirmed, the latter being a nobody from an obscure NES title and the former already getting a spinoff movie.

The only thing I can imagine garnering any hype would be a reference to the Mario gang getting invites to a Smash Tournament, or foreshadowing the villain for the sequel (Wart, etc)
