Graphics don't matter. Art direction matters. PS1 graphical level is its own direction and all that matters is what you do with hit.

It's a clunky ninja stealth game on ps1, go in and be surprised it isn't terrible. I can't say if it feels modern or not but it has some very forward design elements.

Specially on CRT. A very popular technique that's not appreciated nowadays is mixing sprites and polygons because they clash so much on modern displays, but look perfect on CRT. Symphony of the Night comes to mind.
