Can we have a non-shitposting Deck thread? What are you playing? Emulating? Still waiting on an email?

Only got my Deck yesterday. Played Jamestown, Dead Cells, Siralim Ultimate and Yakuza 0. All performed flawlessly. Currently playing Hitman 3. Had some issues with Gyro drift, but recalibrating the gyro in big picture mode seems to have fixed the issue. Just joined the beta branch so i can change my screen refresh rate. Gonna see how 40 fps/hz feels. My phone camera sucks dick it would seem.

But I don't have a steam deck

60hz display = trash.
/thread

yeah bro i want a 144hz 4k handheld with 10 hour battery life that runs red dead 2 at 144fps in 4k and costs 500 bucks

>After Q3

Still waiting for my email. I'm Q2 now, but using one of the calculators it seems that because I ordered literally 1 hour after they went on sale (and only that because Valve forgot to turn off the rate limiting for the reservations. I was there at the very beginning and of course the site crashed constantly with everyone fighting over it. I got stuck with a "blocked for too many attempts" thing which meant I couldn't reserve until later. Had it been a normal day and transaction I understood it, but they must have massively underestimated demand for Decks), I'm likely to get mine in late June.

If the calculators are accurate, a US 512gb model ordered 1 hour after launch on reserve day is like June 26th, becuase each new block of fulfilled orders seems to be like only mere seconds later than the previous ones. Really frustrating, especially being there early and still getting stuck. Maybe the estimation calcs are off and I'll get lucky but...still waiting

>13 FPS
>bulky and heavy as fuck
It's over steamdrones

While I don't want to play CSGO specifically on Deck, the control scheme made lots of sense to me, and I could see getting really proficient at it. Stick to flick, trackpad to get 90% of the way there, and minor adjustments with the gyro for fine aiming. It's not gimmicky. Probably much more suited to single player FPS.

I need a better setup for Dekstop mode. I feel only using the device is "just enough" to do basic tasks. External input devices are a must.

I use Manjaro daily, I'd say I am 5/10 proficient in Linux. So installing everything through flatpak makes sense. My attempts to do otherwise have not been successful. I just fall down this pit of PGP keyrings and god knows what. Not that SteamOS not a "full OS" but I feel like many things are hidden/not setup on purpose, because the "user experience" comes second to the proprietary Steam setup. It's a purpose built device, that you can do some basic things to. I'm sure someone 8/10+ proficient in Linux would know what to do.

So I know it's easy to install discord with flatpaks but has anyone actually used voice while in a game? Does it work well?

I'm Q3 but I tried my friends. Seems like its everything I ever wanted in a portable and im gonna make a mega emu machine + modern stuff.

why are you spreading this misinformation? it runs at a stable 30fps on CEMU. uncapped fps for me averages between 40 and 60

Nice lie.

This guy played FF14 and recorded with discord on in background. Look near the end of the video.

The Danganronpa series and Sakuna. might set up ps1 emulation for wild arms soon.

Having a right stick now I’ve been interested in trying out flickstick to supplement my usual Steam Controller trackpad/gyro setup but I keep bumping the stick going for buttons and I feel like it will irritate the hell out of me

Nice thank you user

Got my deck email yesterday
Waiting to ship

So far using my deck for nothing but streaming and loving the fuck out of it. Not sure I’ll ever install anything on it.

How is the RMA process?
Something is loose on the left half of my deck, I thought I could get used to it but the rattling is so annoying

your hand looks very uncomfortable which confirms all my fears for this device. Disappointing, but i'm hoping microsoft will make their own portable handheld device

Personally I find it very comfy but I have big strong manly hands
I think you would struggle as an oriental or woman though

It's pretty comfortable in practice. I got really into Wolfenstein Old Blood, playing for hours. No issues on my end and I've got admittedly weak wrists.

Well user I broke my hand, so if I can't use it that means you're lower than a cripple.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH

same

My fucking deck won't be ready until October.

Imagine wasting your money on this shit

How could you possibly come to that conclusion, all you see is his thumb for like 3 seconds

nice 2 hour battery

this but for all video games

I want to play Black Souls on it but it seems like a hassle to set up.

It's more powerful than laptops at similar prices and you can resell it and nearly triple the price. You would have to be a colossal retard NOT to buy this shit.

Yeah the battery is pretty bad. It reminds me a lot of the Switch v1 in that regard. You can tweak it to improve it I guess but it's still nothing to write home about.

I wonder if we'll see a newer Deck? Van Gogh is pretty power efficient even compared to the new Rembrandt stuff coming out. I think the only thing that'd get me to swap is OLED but a more efficient APU would be nice too. (I don't play that many intensive games so it's really more like 3.5-4 hours for me, but options are good.)

Remember when people said this would output 4k and run every game at 60fps?

>n-n-n-nobody said that!!!

Pretty painless you just have to be patient. I had a dead pixel on my deck so I had to RMA. Sent it to them on a Monday, they received it at their warehouse on that Wednesday. I waited for them to process and messaged them the following Monday and they confirmed that they had it. I received an email that they were preparing to ship the replacement that Thursday and then it was delivered on Saturday.
All in all it was just under two weeks to get my replacement

Waiting for my RMA'd unit to get sent back after Valve got it a week ago.

literally no one said that

Oh and a better dpad. The Deck dpad is seriously disappointing. It's not the absolute worst but it's so mushy that I can't

Nobody said that. At least nobody sane. Van Gogh was originally meant for netbooks (at least it was speculated to be for that pre-Deck announcement). Those new Rembrandt APUs need to hit 35w to touch 60 and GPU wise it doesn't seem like they're beating the 1050ti. Maybe we'll get 60fps with the 7000 series so save up and wait.

It most definitely can output 4k

>fans are loud and whiny
>install update that's supposed to fix fan noise
>fans still loud and whiny
what the fuck

I’ll break with the shills and say I dislike the ergonomics. It’s clearly not designed for primary trackpad use; trying to move from trackpads to buttons sucks. Also the grip buttons are really hard to manipulate when also using the shoulders. It feels like it’s doing the N64 thing, where it’s trying to just be two controllers fused into one, rather than a single ergonomic unit. Either it’s a 360 controller, OR it’s 2 trackpads and 4 back buttons. Trying to combine the two totally sucks, at least compared to using the Steam Controller which was amazing.

Only in desktop mode.

Oh really? It can't output 4k on a 720p screen? Tell me more Mr. Computer Science.

I haven’t been able to get FFXIV to work in game mode. Runs fine in desktop mode, but when I launch from Steam it just shows the Steam logo with the loading animation. I know the game is launching because i can hear “tales of loss and fire and faith” it just never shows anything

Thanks for your input. I found the claim that the fans were a software issue to be a little dubious (since one type of fan doesn't have the issue at all.) It's kind of bullshit they even cheaped out on the fans and the software thing sounds like a bandaid fix. Good to have that confirmed, give Valve hell.

>Would output 4k
It can
>Run every game at 60fps
It can probably do that as well >b-buh it doesn't count if it's not 16k on ultra

You enable auto login in FFXIV launcher?

It can't run a lot of stuff at 60. I think the CPU is too weak and there's not enough power to go around. I could get 60 out of World in the hub world (needed Stracker's Loader) but in typical World fashion, the actual game dips. More like 45-60. I know some 9th gen stuff like Deathloop can't do it either. God of War and Elden Ring don't (though From is incompetent)

There are a lot of cool 60fps games though. Anything RE engine can get a stable 60 on medium (you can go higher but it kills your battery for very little boost), same with idtech stuff. New Colossus was under 20w, 800p medium 60fps no problems.

No, I forgot to mention the launcher displays just fine. So I can log in just fine

The new launcher doesn’t work with Proton. Steam version forces use of new launcher; desktop versions can use the old launcher. It’s purportedly “being worked on”

Well then let me assure you that indeed, absolutelly nobody ever said that the steam Deck, in handheld mode, would output 4K on its 720p screen

You can't download RAM.

World?

The update did literally nothing for my Steam Deck, nothing notable at least.
Played Disco Elysium in bed last night, and the fan noise was still actively distracting at ~30% game volume.

>I think the CPU is too weak
Why do you say "think"? Enable the mangohud overlay. If the GPU usage is a higher number than the CPU usage (which will be the case 9/10 times), than the CPU is not the bottleneck.

Sorry, Monster Hunter World. That game is a bitch to run on low end systems so it's not a surprise. I opted to do medium-high mix at 40fps instead, it's an okay compromise. Kind of like playing on PS4 Pro. If you're wondering about the jaggies, I hate the anti aliasing smear. It doesn't cause any performance issues, I just don't like it. About 2:30~ like this.

Give Valve hell. It's 100% a bandaid fix. Annoying how quick people will rush to their defense. The product had a 3 month delay and it's very telling that none of the dev or review units got the noisy fan. They fucked you harder than they fucked the Artifact fanbase. Get in touch with support.

I just ordered mine yesterday, deckbros

>Jaggies
I thought you were supposed to find those in monster hunter

Are you on the beta branch? I didn't think they rolled out the fan update yet.

Can you dual boot Winblows if you’re not a neet and don’t have free time to fuck around trying to get Linux to work before playing vidya?

welcome to 2023 Q4 delivery brother

apparently there's one minute of preorders ahead of me. just give me my fucking deck already

And yet you have the free time to dual boot Windows in the first place

Yes, but be aware that microsoft started being assholes when dualbooting got popular and will intentionally try to break your bootloader if it can tell linux is installed, and technically windows isn't really supported on the steam deck.

I don't like to be too matter of fact since I'm not a hardware expert. It's 100% the CPU. World will see spikes in the 80s even with the Performance Extender CPU fix (reduces load substantially) Cyberpunk on the newer Rembrandt APUs (extra cores + zen 3) can consistently hold 60.

That's a pretty good one.

Yeah there's no audio drivers yet though. You've got to connect speakers or headphones either through bluetooth I hear. I'd give SteamOS a try since it has so many crazy QoL features (quick access giving you full control over the unit with ease) but it's your PC.
