You see, some people still has not realized we have a game boy situation here.

Game boy was around for 9 years until it got a small upgrade in the form of a game boy color, which had very similar hardware. And it's not that there was no competition with better technology. Neo Geo pocket, game gear and Lynx were all much stronger than the game boy, which was outdated for years.

But the game boy got the ball running and then it got the ball running again. It was easy to develop for, got cyclical first party support with good quality stuff and it was easy to make a profit on it.

The steam deck might scratch some sales, but the level of convenience, straightforward user experience and brand recognition of the switch are too well established to be replaced completely by a gamer bro machine that can't run mario unless you can be assed to set up an emulator, which most people are not.

The switch is set for still some years until nintendo decides to stop supporting it. There's no gimmick to wear off this time around, like the wii.

I work at a Walmart and Playstation distribution supply is so garbage we never get any in to sell, so people can't get them. We haven't even had any PS4s in months either.

We get in some Series S's (disc-less) to sell but that's about it for Xbox.

Switch is about the only thing with a good supply chain. We get in some regular Switchs, some of the Animal Crossing themed ones even though I thought that was supposed to be a limited edition console when I first saw it, a decent chunk of Lites, and even some occasional OLEDs.

This is why Switch is doing so well. It's about the ONLY console people can buy at our store 90% of the time.
