Probably in 10 years when the final story quest is finally released and you can play 500 hours worth of content for $0. People seem to forget that with all the free ways to make the gameplay easier (world deleveling, co-op, etc), there's really no reason to actually pay for the game if you just want a BOTW clone and are able to ignore all the bullshit gacha mechanics.

I think thats part of the reason why Genshin does so well. 5 stars are guaranteed at 90 rolls which is on the low end for a pity system. The banner 5 star is guaranteed at 180. Pity rolls over to each new banner as well. All these things take pressure off of people who would otherwise save up, or crash and burn like ’s pic, and could possibly get them to spend in small amounts. All the the while the whales who can still afford to blow large amounts of money are unaffected..

In terms of level design, most of Mondstadt is quite bland compared to later areas. That's one area where Mihoyo notably improved as they went on.

The fun part of the combat is honestly in building teams and coming up with rotations tailored for specific challenges. It takes a good while to get enough built units for that. The enemy design stays kinda bad forever.

Story never gets good. I'd say the early story was generic-yet-serviceable. The story after Mondstadt stops being serviceable, barring a small handful of quests. It's quite unfortunate.

I personally can't stand when people compare the Genshin to Botw in most aspects, but there are a few small core mechanics that are clearly inspired. I'm talking about the core daily gameplay of doing commissions. Whacking hillachurls is mechanically feels almost identical to smacking around Bobokodins or whatever the fuck they're called in Botw. I know things like elements, team compositions, etc. all make the whole experience different but when you boil it down you're waggling swords and shooting arrows in a field at some goblins.

And that's not a bad thing in my book, its satisfying and brain dead and I love it.
