Localization really fucked his game. In JP, he doesn't even mention believing Doom in the intro and the silly edge lines didn't exist.

They even fucked up that he echoes what Maria (and Sonic) say in SA2. In the JP of both games it's "Adios, Shadow the Hedgehog." In EN SA2 it was "Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog." And for some reason in EN ShtH it's "Goodbye forever, Shadow the Hedgehog." It also makes Gerald seem a lot less schizo, but that is still a problem in the JP script.

I always found it kinda weird how they gave Sonic Chaos Control in SA2, but it's exclusively like a story thing. He never uses it in gameplay, and he's only ever used it in like two games. And I can't help but feel like it's kind of a pointless ability to give him if he's never gonna use it in gameplay and it's only relevant in the plots of two games.

Teleportation and time slowing have limited use given how fast Sonic naturally is.

Well the thing is I always kinda found Chaos Control to be kinda pointless in Sonic anyway, since it doesn't actually mesh all that well in the gameplay. Like what the hell is the point of a teleport in games like this? It's literally just an area skip. And then there's Chaos Blast. Remember how in Sonic 3 & Knuckles how Hyper Sonic could just kill the entire screen at will? Remember how completely pointless that ability was? That's what Chaos Blast is.

Its because he doesn't need it, nor does he have any real inclination to use the power of the chaos emeralds for anything beyond saving the day. He can use it, he will if he has to, but outside of [plot] reasons, what does the fastest lifeform need teleportation for?

Considering how ancient temples has murals of him fighting eggman back in s3&k I think it safe to say that, in-universe, sonic is some sort of destined savior-figure, and from that perspective, shadow being physically similar to him when the prior version was a big fuck-off lizard implies that 'hedgehogs' are some sort of super-species in sonic cannon.

from a non-schizo headcannon perspective; sonic was able to tap into chaos control to show how he and shadow are more alike than just appearances.

The entire message of SA2 was that Sonic was the real ultimate life form all along. That's why he can Chaos Control with a fake Emerald his first time doing it and only Shadow fell at the end. That's why the story is filled with Rouge going on about how Shadow may not be the original final product and the Japanese manual says his pod was never found despite G.U.N having him.

Shadow's popularity meant all that has since been dropped and now their equals outside of comics mandating that Sonic always wins.

He has that Time Stop ability in SA2, but that's pretty much the only time he does it in gameplay.

That's in multiplayer which doesn't count because Amy can spam that even more often and also Metal is faster then Sonic in that.

You're right, that doesn't make sense.

Really, Sonic's always had dumb, redundant character settings. Like Sonic was the fastest, but both Knuckles and Tails were just as fast as him in gameplay. Or Knuckles was stronger than Sonic but everything died in one hit, rendering that piece of character trivia entire pointless.

That's probably why Sonic Heroes introduced the dumbass bullshit where all enemies had health bars now, just to justify the power characters.
