What mostly differentiates fantasy from fiction is that fiction involves technology that could maybe be possible in the future.
Time travel is most likely impossible, but maybe someone could invent a time machine.

Steins;Gate is absolutely peak fiction. It’s a masterpiece and one of the best novels I’ve ever read.

Even the minimal amount of gameplay they added in elevates it above most VNs. Well worth my time and highly recommended. Honestly, it was only a shame for me that I put off playing it as long as I did, all the discussion and attention from the anime would have been really fun.

Honestly both the anime and the game were great, the game was better but ur anime was a LOT better than I expected and in some parts actually improved on the VN, especially in the second half when it’d found its footing.

If you’re going to complain about Kurisu specifically, the only issue I’d bring up is that in the VN she’s always the reasonable one, the one that de-escalates their fights and the one that puts up with Okabe’s shit, outside of about twice, she gets dunked on over and over the entire game.

However the anime needed to have her win practically every encounter, so instead it invents a routine where Okabe would say something dumb, she’d insult him and he’d be unable to respond or just silently seethe. Even scenes like the Lecture where Daru supported him calling her out, were changed to be Daru cringing away in shame and Okabe getting dunked on by Kurisu’s smarts.

There are two crimes the anime committed to my mind

There’s no two ways around it, the ending of Steins;Gate is an incredible 10/10 moment that perfectly encapsulates the scene and recontextualises everything that’s happened before, it’s absolutely perfect and a fitting capstone to such a great story. The anime ending softens half of that and goes against the other half, it’s fine on it’s own but it’s only a good anime ending and it fucks with the narrative overall.

Because the anime was popular and needed to get milked, they let it go past the ending with OAVs and a movie.

Because the anime writers (or at least the ones working on that stuff) are talentless hacks, they injected drama into those stories by handwaving and walking back Kurisu and Okabe’s relationship, so they could still do romance teases from there.

And because they’re boring retards who can’t understand character journeys their idea was “He follows her too America!” even though Kurisu’s whole fucking thing through the entire fucking game was that she was actually miserable and lonely in America despite it being her dream job. The literal ideal ending that’s directly setup by having her fucking stay in Japan is to have her stay in Japan, where she’s happy, with friends, and for her and Okabe to join a Japanese lab together, or make their own.

But that’s how the anime went, so that’s the story the games also followed from then on. So your literal after story is that Kurisu goes back to America, the gang all splits up, Okabe follows her years later and there’s been zero romance between them, they’rein their late 20’s or early 30s, but the writers still want to milk that romance for money so there’s still zero progression.

i agree about the ending, vn delivers it WAY better, but i don't mind about the ova, which was blatant fan service but at least it was good. i have mixed feelings about the movie because it gets a lot of estabilished things wrong but it's still a decent watch

What's the real reason for him ditching? Because if we put our pedantic autist hats on for a second, Witcher is absolutely horrible in the jank department TW1 can literally break if you mess up quest sequencing, and a shout out to the really bad first chapter and swap backtracking and combat. Then TW3's ending is just flat out unfinished, seriously everything after the battle of Kaeher Moren is so bare bones its hallarious. The quality drops off like a cliff. Not like it matters Witcher is kino regardless I don't care.
Steins;Gate's presentation and structure is way better. Not without its own problems sure, but getting mad about details such as the veggie thing (admittedly the dumbest pseudoscience in the game) is just autistic as fuck. It's probably because most people don't like SoL or find the characters annoying. And true the first 25 hours of pure SoL shenanigans is difficult for people to stand who are not predisposed to the genre.
