Calling it a dating sim is taking some liberties, but there are large chunks of the game where you are expected to hang out with characters for skills

If persona 3 and 4 are dating sims, which are the entire reason the free time events were specifically made for the western release of DR1 when they weren't in the original game because of how popular persona was in the west, then so is danganronpa.

I actually like them for their fucked up atmosphere and shit. Waifus are a plus.

I only played the series for thr cases, and because of that I hated DR1. The cases are too fucking easy. DR2 was much better, but then DRV3 became so nonsensical that I didn't even bother finishing it. Once Miu died, I lost all motivations to finish it.

The FTEs were in the original Japanese version. Where did you hear there were any changes for western version?

I like 1 and 2 for the plot, UDG for the waifus and 3 for the closure.

I didn't like v3 at all even though the girls were cute.

Characters > themes (mostly in the latter two games) > atmosphere > mysteries >>> plot >>>>> waifus

While more than half the cases are retarded when scrutinized, but it's a ton of fun when in the thick of it, except V3-4 investigation, and V3-5 trial.

Purely the mystery and case solving aspect which is why it boggles my mind when people analyze that X character is badly written or one noted. All the characters are straight-up anime tropes that change personality if the plot asks for it and if you wanted anything more than you're clearly more of a VN fag than a mystery guy

If there's anything I have learned in life, it's this: You can sell anything with cute alt girls. Doesn't really matter what she is, just as long as it's alt. Goth, emo, punk, a mishmash of those, makes no matter, people WILL buy the product.

I like the plot except the endings. The original plots of Danganronpa were supposed to be much darker but the Japanese playtesters didn’t like violence and gore, they wanted waifus. The cook was originally meant to feed everybody the dead body, wouldn’t that also make a lot more sense too? But it made playtesters uncomfortable so they bad to change it among many other changes.

I came from AA so it was the mystery aspect, plus most of the girls are ether incredibly boring, insane, insufferable or some combination of the three.
