I listen to them while playing grindy games or games where you don't need to hear the music.
I've spent at least 500 to 600 hours listening to "video essays" while grinding in any given MH game, minecraft, noita, etc.
The only games I play now where I actually still listen to the game audio are RPGs and Yoshis island.
Furthermore I do work from home so on my second screen I put those video essays as well. Recently I went through all of JA's witcher analyses, and also that one autist's morrowind and oblivion reviews. But I listen to anything on the side really, it's just whatever piques my interest, not just videogame shit. I've also gone through all of JCS and matt orchard's crime analyses, basically all of oneyplays, all of matthewmatosis, almost all of cumtown, all of RLM, a lot of Mega64 podcasts, endless nuzlockes by autistic pokemon guys, etc etc.
I care less for this shit as actual content and more as noise that enters my ears.

This really is like those analysis videos because with all this set up for it, it's fucking wrong because chip damage exists which can still kill you through blocking.
I think that's my fav part when checking them out for games I know and like, seeing them do all this shit to trip and fall over some shit wrongly knowing they spent like an hour to be wrong.

I saw one today, something like "a brief overview of the elder scrolls" and it was 12 hours long.
Who actually watches this? An essay should be 30 minutes, maybe multiple episodes if you really need to go in depth on a story or gameplay design, or an hour if you're doing an overview.
