This will benefit horror games and walking simulator narrative "games". Any actual game with action will not look like this for a long time

NINTENDO

That looks pretty damn cool.
I hope horror games come back

Everybody's already over the realism fad in vidya. It's all about artistic style in graphics now.

And nor should they. True realism would work for an mmorpg one day maybe with VR support or whatever, but apart from that fuck realism

>wtf the future is now boys
Based unreal

Hyperrealism is for people with aphantasia.

nice fucking blurry textures on those pipes
I'd rather have a clean and sharp "cartoony" style than this shit

maybe if they add realistic gore otherwise I don't care

yeah, i can't for it to be used in all the 0 games coming soon because everything has to be playable in consoles
the future is definetely in the future
now you will play 60fps garbage and you will like

Stop the train, I want to get off

I can't put my finger on exactly why but I get the "uncanny valley" style feeling of "this is fake" even before the light tricks or being told that it's a game engine.

It's a fucking 400x700 low bitrate video! WHO would fall for this?

Pass me the onions bros this is it

You mean when you opened the video and it said "this isnt real" in a giant caption you try hard

source of this? Other than tiktok

You could make a graph with one line representing graphical fidelity going up over time and another line of actual, raw fun gameplay going down over time.

Fuck graphic-niggers. UE5 is irrelevant because nothing actually FUN will come out it, only more battle royals, NTF-MMOs and some console FPS.

I hate all the retards who need to put emojis in everything that they write.

WHOA A PRERENDERED VIDEO LIKE IN MUH GAME TRAILERS/OPENINGS

I can't think of anything less scary than a janky, poorly modeled monster jankily animating itself lunging at me in a hyperrealistic setting.

>AI, physics, simulations, interactivity, level design, gameplay mechanics all fell behind so GRAFFIX was the one and only main focus

We need to go back. Tell the idiots that prettier games isn't as great as you think it will be when the actual games become more shallow, simple, less inventive.

I'll say it. I don't want photorealistic video games.

Damnn. Its so real that anons would question everything

>low res
>shaky cam
I sleep

HIREEEEEEEEE

>Kills PCs or looks like shit the moment it's something else than prerendered cutscene

I cant give a shit about this really.
Absolute waste of effort.

An artist makes decisions about how they wish to portray a scene. Decisions about light and colour, where to include details or which details to emphasise, how to lead the viewer's eye by making different parts of the scene 'pop'. The style in which the scene is depicted conveys emotion and these decisions are what distinguish good art from a simple reproduction via camera.

Photo-realism is another way of saying "A complete lack of any artistic vision".

you are not unique

Attached: Alfred Hitchcocks Wisdom.jpg (936x1436, 210.66K)

You are wasting your money, Timmy.

You heard it here first: film and photography are simple reproductions with a camera - video games are the true pinnacle of artistic vision!

And the gameplay gets more stale than ever.

This, but unironically.

Glad I'm not alone in thinking this is pointless faggotry.
I bet I'm also not the only one who thinks you should kill yourself.

I'll admit that I was thinking "no, this is just video of a real station" the split second before the lights went out. That was a surprise.
But yeah, in all likelihood while graphics will undoubtably improve, there will be diminishing returns, and the more realistic things get the more out of place typical 'videogame' stuff will become.
Plus there's always room for lower-spec graphics. I've always said that I'd be happy with PS2 tier graphics with more of the power put towards extra complexity in other areas, like physics or simulation of stuff.

I'd much rather have stylized, simple graphics for several reasons
>development takes less resources and time, meaning other parts of the game can be improved instead
>you won't need a top of the line hardware to play it
>ultra realistic graphics are impressive, but boring

>Higurashi Obama
So he's the one to blame for Gou and Sotsu? Gee, thanks, Obama.

Glancing at the star citizen thread currently going, will they switch to unreal 5 since they wanted to have "the best" graphics possible? Anyways, the only use this has is for porn games.

>film and photography are simple reproductions with a camera
Dumbass can't even comprehend what a camera does.

photo realism serves its purpose tho.
Having the technical ability to pull off photo realism is great, great artists show off their ability to do that, and it lets them make much more wonderful and abstract pieces like what you shown.

This, but unironically

reddit.com/r/unrealengine/comments/uki28v/ue5_i_made_this_train_station_environment_all/

Some japanese guy made it to practice enviromental design on UE5

And neither are you faggot

>WE CAN NOW MAKE EMPTY ENVIRONMENTS
So just like every tech demo ever?

>ultra realistic graphics are impressive, but boring
This
>Look at this tree
>It looks like the tree in your backyard
>Isn't that cool?
>BTW your CPU and GPU are melting :)
No. If I wanted to go look at a tree, I'd go look at a fucking tree.

Baked lighting needs to be used more often. Too many games go full dynamic to very little benefit

Idk man, resident evil 2 was pretty fucking realistic and I had a blast. 8 less so but that's because the story and gameplay didn't engage me the same, but both games looked so good. Devil may cry 5 too (all same engine I know)

Attached: chuckle.gif (250x250, 992.84K)

And that is why Mirror's Edge could almost pass as a modern game today

Sniff

>zoomers and graphics fags are so fucking detached from real life that the big thing in a decade or two will be playing real life simulator on unreal engine 7
You helped in killing gaming with your retardation.

Attached: 1559249451051.jpg (413x395, 37.74K)

These videos make me laugh, because retards will be like "oh mah gawd, look at what gaming will be like in 2-3 years" not realising a full game that looks like this would be fucking impossible.

Every fucking game uses baked lighting and photoscanned assets, which basically have natural light baked in. That's why all the environments are 100% static.

hyperrealism is the most overrated shit ever
I dont want a replication of the world, I want something better

>common opinion isn't unique
no shit, retard

True and great, but that Jean Renoir not Hitchcock

photography is by far the shittiest and laziest "art"form.

It'll never happen because the western video game industry is set to implode in the next 10-15 years.

elden ring looks fucking incredible, I'd kill to play it for the first time again

Attached: 1652096129039.png (2055x1155, 2.76M)

Imagine the porn games

Brainlet take. Photo-realism can be a form of expression too. In video games especially. Generally in horror a very grounded setting works the best since it needs as little suspension of disbelief as possible. In some games "simple reproduction via camera" could be beneficial for the character's point of view. The problem here is that the industry is not ready to utilize this. Computing resources are limited, dev money aren't infinite, marketing always chooses just one thing to focus on. It's either the game has amazing grafics or it has everything else.

In the end realism is just another method of conveying a point. When it becomes the entire point it's boring but nobody says it's gonna be exactly this, things aren't either 100% realistic or 100% non-realistic. We don't have a true photo-realistic game to discuss yet so it's not something that can be judged. We do have games with ugly stylized art direction though, in case you think that stylized equals good. Good artist will make anything work. We just gotta get good artist back in vidya again.

Why not?

things looking real and scary would be a priority in a horror game, while a game like elden ring for example has other things to focus on
though I don't fully agree with that other user, war games for example benefit from hyperrealism

Yes but taking tousands of premade assets including randomized Meta Human models and slapping them into unreal with default lightning will be 100 times faster than making any custom anime girl model with a particular style, shading and lightning model and skinning, same for environment design.

Things aren't in the PS2 era anymore. Making your stylized creative graphics you'd want is now MORE WORK, not LESS.

>Alfred Hitchcocks Wisdom.jpg
Thats not Hitchcock you moron, that´s Jean Renoir.

Hey dipshits, I was talking about the original video, not the webm posted in this thread.

This is true, but there are still decisions made by a photographer which can be considered artistic choices. They choose what to photograph from which angle, with which kind of lens/settings, they can set up their own lighting and backdrops to create an image which is still an artistic creation.

In a photorealistic video game engine, you've even removed those decisions. The player moves their avatar and their camera freely and the lighting is set to correctly model light sources that the player can control. The only important work for an artist to do then, is to imagine and create the things which will be shown in the scene, however it's practically impossible to imagine something entirely original in photo realistic detail. The level of fidelity is actually a shackle on the artist, as it limits what they can create without having it look out of place in the engine. So instead what we get is always a recreation of something simple from reality which can be copied into the engine.

And so we get to OP's webm. Which is just an empty staircase in the dark. Who wants an empty staircase in the dark when you could have this?
