I never thought I'd find a mechanic I hate more than hunger clocks
I already finished it years ago. But I never did get the evil knight's ending since I could never get him to show up when I had buddy pills on me.
dcss is right up your alley, hunger clock free game for sneeds like you
fun game
OWH is great but i prefer DCSS
I just want a roguelike with roleplaying. Procedurally generated NPCs, races, etc.
What about ToME?
Is it any good for a newfag like me?
Yes, easy to get into, no convoluted gotcha shit, besides you not noticing a rare and letting it gib you
I've been enjoying Infra Arcana a lot as of late, any other roguelikes with a good atmosphere?
No.
what do you guys think about Dungeonmans? Was also going to ask about
Tome is like a singleplayer MMO, ability cooldowns. I wouldn't recommend it.
Cataclysm DDA has its tense moments
I beat it once, was pretty easy and didn't really have nearly as much depth as real roguelikes. There's very little to replay for besides trying to see all companion endings, and runs are too samey and uneventful.
I'm a roguelike brainlet but considering Cogmind I normally dislike ascii stuff but I kinda just makes "sense" given the context of the game and it looks more animated than most
well which one is it?
>what do you guys think about Dungeonmans?
I picked it up a few days ago, feels like Elona with a more streamlined UI and equally little actually going on.
not a big fan of the le wacky reddit humor in the game
I've been looking through the steam page and found a couple that look interesting, Mainframe Defenders, Soulash, Rogue Empire
are any of those at least worth it?
Already 100% it ages ago. The 10km run felt like an actual gigantic adventure I savescummed tho
one way heroics 2 literally never ever
This is the roguelike thread, not the roguelite thread
Based
It's going to be card-based trash anyway
The concept of TOME sound interesting but it looks like dogshit, does the gameplay just way make up for it or something?
What are your deep thoughts on Tangledeep?
I have, and still do.
yes, it has mor depth than most stupid roguelites
free game, just try it yourself user
yes I am
Elona +
I played it to death already, only ending I never achieved was reaching the end of the world on the easiest difficulty
Yeah
What do we think about cogmind?
ToME is great, but when the fuck is the next patch
Played the shit out of the base game, even got the best ending on the hardest difficulty. These days I wouldn't get into it again because you can't save whenever you wish and I don't have the free time to play for long stretches anymore
shit looks and plays like mobiletrash
Lol
Yeah
How the fuck is this thread still up?
Because roguelikes are based
>Completely shit sequel is 60fps
>Still no way to make it 60 on the actual good one
I hate it
Cogmind technically.
Yes but MCOWH, as it’s superior in every way
Better sprites, better menu/UI, more features
How is it? Looks neat
I tried pirating the plus version, and it doesn't startup at all. It made my PC super slow until I restarted it.
You deserve it for pirating such a good game that only costs like two bucks, not to mention you miss out on the online seeds which are a neat advantage.
ToME is ultra unfun, you can spec everything into layers of defense and still get instagibbed, the only way to win the game is to play like a coward sniping and killing offscreen or through walls
I'd buy it if they sold it on GOG or Humble with no DRM.
Tangledeep looks, plays and feels like dogshit
So, in hindsight, there's no real good answer as to which traditional roguelike on steam is good.
>actually has graphics
>and animations
>soulful music
>mystery dungeon like inspiration
>"dogshit"
Do roguelike fags really? Lmao
cogmind, tome, tangledeep, rift wizard, and caves of qud are all good
most of the neckbeards here will nipick to death because one isn't their specific flavor of autism, or their favorite is some ancient freeware with spreadsheet graphics and ui
just because one person is shitting on tome doesn't mean it might not be for you, really depends on what you want.. but you can also download and try a lot of these for free such as tome on their own sites so most don't refer to steam for roguelikes
Caves of Cuck
OWH is too arcadey for my tastes, but I like the gimmick.
Play ADOM if you want something to get into the genre, if ADOM is too hard for you Rogue Fable III is easier to get into, otherwise you have plenty of other choices, you have Qud/CDDA/UnReal World for sandboxy roguelikes, Cogmind/Rogue/Jupiter Hell for more standard dungeon crawling or things like ToME for more character building focused gameplay.
Isn't adom bad because the developer is some schumck?
>Jupiter Hell
How is it compared to DoomRL? I had a lot of fun with that when it came out. JH looks really ugly in screenshots, but I guess that isn't a dealbreaker.
Looks interesting but lots of complaints in the reviews and community hub on steams.
Any of you guys that like sandbox RLs like Elona and UnReal World played this? Wondering if it's any good.
I wouldn't say ADOM is bad, but I also don't like where it ended up being after some versions and it was never one of my favorites, it's an excellent, if not a bit too vanilla Roguelike for people to start with, Angband might be a better starting point in some regards but it's also more old school and some people can't really get used to it, ADOM comes from the same family tree so it might be easier to get into.
If you like DoomRL you'll like JH, it's ugly and needlessly slow but it's the same formula, I'm not a fan of either though so I can't really give you an informed opinion, you should ask somebody who has more indepth knowledge of DoomRL to give you a better rundown.
It's in my library already, probably from a bundle I guess.
>DLC is on sale for $2
Sure I'll try it, I like roguelikes. Thanks for the rec.
