I hate this game so fucking much I wanna punch my screen. I've already rage-quitted it at least 3 or 4 times.
Give me some actual tips, is grinding money worth it? I've just beaten the second boss, every fucking upgrade/equipment is like 1200 coins, should I just keep exploring? Does the grinding get less autistic? I feel the characters deal such shit damage and I dont wanna have to grind for half an hour just to get fucking +2 strength.
>hurr git gud
I beat the 2nd boss first try.

I guess nobody is playing this shit then
I'll bump your thread OP
They even got 22k people playing this.

My question is: does anyone else feel like the boss take fucking forever and that the game is like hard as fuck compared to the first one?
It's an RNG game with grinding elements
It has nothing to do with Rogue
Just use Cheat Engine on PC to get all the shit in the castle upgraded then play
Refund it and pirate it
It's a great game. Just a shitty advertised one so it deserves no sales
it's just the same as the first game, why everyone acts like this is a big shocker?
It's all about getting the right relics in the early game. That can open up so much armor or simplify the skills your can unlock.
It only gets grinding after you beat it the first time and move onto the harder versions.
why are we so dead rogue bros?
the grind is terrible, and so are the roguelike elements are inane, quit after beating the first boss and unlocking all the classes
>shit-tier roguelite doesn't get enough attention
>durrr why no one play roguelikes?
You unlocked all the classes before reaching the other bosses?
how much did you grinded son?
i played the highest +% gold characters and didn't put any points into anything that wasn't opening up new rooms until i got the classes, about 5 hours i guess
This is close to the strategy I've been employing. A couple hours in and I'm only missing 2 characters if the character level npc is anything to go off of. Also, I can't aim for shit with gunslinger using a controller, but I suck at the platforming using mouse and keyboard.
the platforming gets really hard later on.
Well I won't call it "hard" but it gets super annoying with all the flying shit
best and worst class?
too much melanin
The guy with the black hole weapon is the best. Get that with either the combo relic or 2 sec cooldown but higher damage relic and u can easily beat all bosses no problem.
ANSWER ME
no
I hate not know what a trait does before you've used it. Playing as a perfectionist gunslinger sucks ass.
Why the fuck did they outright remove the vertigo trait. It's disorienting as fuck and difficult to play but it was interesting. If people hated it so much they could try just not playing characters with it.
This is my castle 15 hours in so far, grind doesn't seem too bad unless you're planning to 100% the castle.
ranger w/ vampirism
chef w/ vampirism
astromancer w/ vampirism
worst classes:
everything else
>3 red hourglass + heavy stone bargain on astromancer for effectively 4x damage
well this is the most OP I've ever been
bro unlock gunslinger and astromancer ASAP.
Not trying to unlock anything new because I'm streaming it. I did manage to find the gun with vampirism trait one time and it was a fucking blast though.
>barb jump attack
I hated it until I realised that you continue spinning through double jumps and air dashes.
what gun?
>rage-quitted
why? it's extremely easy.
If you can't get good:
you don't have to grind. just fish for pacifist or the 1 health only trait that gives like 500% gold and clear first two areas without being touched.
in reality you don't have to grind. just explore and do a no-boss run, just open everything. 2nd run you will have the gold (and portals) to do all bosses.
also go all strength magic is shit. go intellect, but don't bother with focus besides talent tree path unlocks.
astromancer sucks
Early game tier list
>top
Knight
Duelist
Valkyrie
Ronin
>mid
barbarian
gunslinger
pirate
mage
astromancer is good at exploring, bad at damage
archer
>shit
barb. don't bother with barb unless you have like 5 haste runes and your melee swing 1 shots. very bad early game.
forgot
put Assassin bottom of Top
Lancer below Assassin or high tier
how do you kill enemies with pacifist?
So how do you get the light to explore the abyss level?
S-tier
>Knight
the easiest and strongest frame data wise. It's literally a Claim-Solais from Castlevania weapon but with even more mashy frame data. STRONG stats, and its talent is one of the, if not the best being the shield parry along with valkyrie's and duelist's. hit's above, below, in front, mashable, good distance. guy is top tier frame data wise.
>Duelist
similar to Knight its frame data is top tier. even more spammy sword attack. Saber's aerial slash is extremely fast and auto-cancels when landing (like castlevania games). The Talent is basically Aqua's roll where you have i-frames for SO LONG and even AFTER the animation. another OP melee with extremely strong talent. these two are the kings of the game, whether you want to dodge or parry, both with strong platforming fundamentals you will have no problems.
A-tier
>Valkyrie
Valk's stats are slightly lower than knight's since valk has a bigger reach on the weapon, although valk's wep doesn't hit as thick or wide as knight's or duelist's. Valk can pogo stick like ducktales and hit upwards so it is very noob friendly. Talent is as OP as Knight's where you just remove projectiles for free without even having to dodge.
Any boomer here? is it me or this game is fucking poison to the eyes? too much shit going on
A-tier (cont)
>Ronin
could easily be in bottom of S. the lack of horizontal can be annoying especially from blind spots. there is some lag after attacks. think of sephiroth in smash. it is cancellable with dash though. Ronin can carry your first playthrough with the dumb hitbox length that goes through floors though. Mastery is Strength so you will be playing it to get that. Strong overall. Good talent too. unlike the other 2 S it has a weakness in lack of wide hitbox, so be mindfull of killing closer enemies first always and cancelling your lag with spin kick or dash. you can also jump cancel, although it cancels less frames than the other 2 options.
>Assassin
easy skill crits. lingering melee hitboxes allow nice poking and hit n run. annoying vs some enemies that teleport on hit though. Very good vs standing still enemies and very simple. press X to vanish and run away after dumping damage, and while on CD keep the footsies game with your lingering hitboxes. Not as strong as the S-tiers because they do the same damage in a single attack while doing the same gameplan, while Assassin is exposed much longer waiting on the 3 hits. Still strong. good for getting faerie chests with its talent.
B-tier
>Chef
Solid explorer and good early game. not the highest DPS but you'll clear your castle and gather your gold. Also very good vs Estuary Namaah and Enoch due reflect with pan. if you get weapon switch you keep the burn and it's really nice. You can put chef in A and that'd be fine. His damage output and stats are not as good as the S tiers, and the pan has some frame data build up, but the hitbox lingers enough to box with it well.
>Boxer:
DPS is the same as the top tier melee but has to build it up to get there. stuck in place to build up is bad for dodging enemy attacks. this applies to AERIAL ATTACKS which is really bad for movement. uppercut is a nice poke tool but damage is mediocre. why be boxer when you can be knight and mash once, hit them and dodge? Same deal as assassin but while assassin can footsies with lingering hitboxes, boxer is stuck in place. you're supposed to use knockout punch then get out and reset, but most of the time you will not kill the enemy, while the S tiers will with just one strike.
immunity to contact damage is nice if you know how to use it, that's why they're B, but it will spoil you and fuck over your fundies of this game if you get used to it.
Mage
RNG dependent on what spells you get. that lack of consistency really puts mages down. they buffed them through early access, but you WILL rely on rune setup and relics for mage to be good, unlike the melee which are good off the bat.
the S tiers. I would not recommend going casters due to spells being rng dependent.
>Lancer
Lancer is good. you jus thave to know how to use it, albeit a little boring as well. It's a one shot kill charge. not hard to use. standing on the ground the simple attack is very decent. in the air the end lag is atrocious (on purpose so you don't use it). Your run will be meticulous and perhaps even boring, but its mastery is a must-level so you should play it to raise it.
It's strong, just boring. VERY good starter stats to compensate how simple or lack of versatility it has compared to the other melee. Could easily go bottom of A tier or top of B.
>Pirate
Basically Chef's frame data melee but exchanging the reflect and DoT for a ranged attack if you hold. Versatile, but the ranged attack does more damage and is better than the melee. unlike ranger you can jump while holding the shot for mobility while aiming which puts them in B. otherwise they'd be ass. Talent is cute for mobility since it lets you fly for a bit, but that's about it. doesn't hold a candle to the other S tier or A tier talents or even Chef's healing cooking. level it for the mastery otherwise opt for S/A tier melee.
>Gunslinger
much better from early access. Talent power is ass, don't even bother. Gun itself is the only good ranged weapon, but still outclassed by the top tier melee frame data. stats make no sense either since its high on INT but gun is strength based. gunslinger benefits from high int so the spell can cover enemies who do get close, but it's very rng dependent. gun frame data is good, but talent is useless and stats are int oriented.
I'm stuck here. Out of 20 runs, I managed to reach boss only twice.
S tier
>astromancer
>gunslinger
>archer
>knight
A tier
>mage
>Ronin
B tier
>valk
>duelist
D tier
>assassin
>chef
F tier
>barbarian
Just reached that area and I'm waaay below your level plus I got shit armor, not sure what I'm doing wrong.
How many hours you have?
>frame data
30
hate this lil nigga like you wouldn't believe
>Barbarian
The sonic the hedgehhod aerial damage is not good and you have to expose yourself close to the enemy for numerous seconds to kill them, exhausting mobiltiy options like dash or midair jumps. all the while Knights and Duelists do more damage by pressing A once and already moved out of the danger zone. If you want barb to work you have to constantly spin kick cancel your aerial attack's landings and cancel grounded attack endlag with dashes. The grounded attack surpasses the S-tier damage on the ground, but you have to either 1 shot or constantly cancel lag. expending a mobility option making it a trade, which leaves you vulnerable to being hit or stuck in lag in crowded places. Talent is good, but derpy since its CD only resets on hit. Overall barb is just an inferior frame data melee compensated by hitting harder on the ground, with lots of button presses to make their attacks viable, it still sacrifices movement options and have a talent inferior to the top and A tiers.
C-tier
>Astromancer
Less damage than mage but talent is good for exploring and faerie chest challenges. like mage, it's gonna be spell-dependent on your dps, even worse cause you have only 1 dps spell. (until you can later unlock choosing your spell in ng+ spending currency). It's not bad, just rng dependent thus not consistent. unlike other classes the relics will also carry mage/astro a lot to do equal dps as
>get really lucky run as chef lots of health and damage ups
>beat Tulbal on first try
>get Jonah to half health before dying
>haven't been able to get him as low health as that run since
So what now? Just grind for a few hours?
Overrated garbage-tier
>Bard
The damage is not bad. the problem is that you have to sacrifice mobility and your position to do damage, making it absolute ASS from a fundamental point of view. not beginner friendly either because you want Bard to do the same DPS as the Top tiers, you're gonna have to cancels pin kick into dash, and the dash into mid air jump, and spin kick again immediately. all just to do the same DPS as a Knight or Duelist mashing the A button. The problem with bard is that you're sacrificing your movement options and position just to do the same amount of damage the top tiers do without doing that. While S tiers can dodge while hitting bosses, bard has to respect and dodge everything and wait on dead time to do his autistic setup. oh you made your setup and the boss jumped/moved? fuck you lol do it again. It's really not good from a fundamental point of view. You WILL have to level it because spin kick damage is good for spin kick damage only enemies. But wait until you unlock the Contrarian trait and just wait until you start with a different weapon.
and I forgot
>Archer
put them in C tier
They hit strong, but they're not flexible at all and you will have to always gain range vs bosses and respect their movement or attacks before engaging again. You can't move while holding, or jump, like the pirate can.
Getting skil-crits w/ the Archer is not hard, but archer requires you to aim and be away to be safe on end lag while the top tiers do the SAME amount of damage while having no end lag and being free to move while doing so. Damage is there, but like barb it's clunky, and unlike barb you can't skill it up to make it viable because there's no avoiding end lag unless you dash, and in practice you don't want to dash towards the enemy in front of you (the direction you're facing the enemy to shoot 99% of the time). and it sucks because their mastery is Strength so you have to lvl it. boring to deal w/ breakables too while exploring.
>RNG dependent on what spells you get.
You can lock one spell and one class.
game runs at 120 for me and no. you're just shit at the game
yeah i stated it in the astro. but this frame data is for somone not even in NG+
even with locking the spell you can't lock the talent spell anyway. even with ideal spells mage has to manage mana, so it needs rune setup to compensate. all the while Duelist, Knight can just mash to win and do more damage without managing any resources or down time.
and for someone*
>NG+
You don't need NG+ for locks
>manage mana
Just use the most broken shit - amulet for 100 mana on hit.
I never said I was bad at it or that the game was hard but I think the game is a bit taxing on my eyes, I'm on the +30 team.
if the blue fireball he throws on his normal attack was bigger I'd use it more, but it's so small it whiffs easily and it's ass.
Problem with spellcasters in this game is that 12 out of the 14 or so classes all main Strength. so if you're in early game and have to commit you're way better off committing to strength gear, castle upgrades and runes than spells where only two classes use Int as a main stat. optimally you'd have to choose if you don't want to grind in a game that already has slight grind.
Just turn on a podcast and play.
This asshole is complaining like he never played spelunky
Also there are more relics that benefit melee/Strength users than casters, so the RNG is in your favor if you discard the caster classes relic-wise.
>You can lock one spell and one class.
how?
what classes use int as the main stat?
Do you understand that all classes use STR for their weapon attack? Yes, even "magic" classes.
The two spellcasters which use spells as their main DPS source in the game. Mage and Astro. The rest their dps comes from their normal attacks and the spell is just a secondary weapon/debuff applier/ used to get faerie chests/ completely ignored.
and that's exactly why the casters are shit. their normal weapon attacks are not good. so their only saving grace of mage is their competitive advantage of having two spells, which is RNG dependant, mana dependant, dead times while gaining mana, and doesn't hit as hard as knight/duelist/ronin/etc
this game is better off played as a castlevania game, it's even designed like that. Charlotte was ass in portrait of ruin for a reason.
>astro
less damage for mobility, lower dps. the mobility is not even needed with haste/vault runes.
>mage
their normal attack is not good. even with the buff from early access where there's a hitbox for the projectile in launch and the explosion, the formula modifier is low damage compared to the melee classes. the only way Mage can be good in this game is if you get lucky and get the Magic-related family traits like crippling intellect or emotional instability. otherwise mage is ass. this is the real reason why mage is RNG dependent. not just the 1 spell you can't lock, but also the family traits.
you should go for some intellect since it affects food healing, but Strength is king in this game.
t.- someone who has 100 hours from EA and got all achievements.
>Having anything in the background while playing Spelunky
How the fuck, that game kills you if you take your eyes off for a single frame.
I have zero problems one shotting enemies with mage and astro weapon attacks on any enemy up to and uncluding lake.
You just have to relax. Everything will be fine
Pizza - shit
Gloves - shit
Scythe - okay
Ballista - super shit
Guitar - good if you compare it to default weapon
Hammer - meh
Spoon - super shit
How did the manage to fuck it up?
this is correct. the only good weapon is guitar, and that's only because bard is absolute garbage to begin with.
Scythe funnily enough is the only thing making non-traited mages better.
you'll have even less problems one shotting enemies with the superior classes then.
