why do you say us?
I don't know why the retards on Yea Forums worship it. It's just a DRM storefront.
It's one of the best peter gabriel songs
Could have been way worse so im kind of glad that steam set up standard for online shit
Steam is greedy kikes.
Epic store is Tencent trying to own everything.
Itch.io is run by SJW tranny political activists.
GOG is uhh help me out here.
vaporware
What's so wrong with DRM? Not defending it I just don't know specifics. Is it all like Denuvo and slows your game to shit? Or is it only a big deal if you want to mod the game?
i love it, its regional prices allow me to purchase games for 1/3 of the actual price
even then I just play less than 2 hours and ask for refunds for most of what I buy
It's fine. Does the job it sets out to do.
A non-inflammatory opinion on /v? WHAAAAAAAA?
Nothing inherently wrong with it, I'm talking about the people who act like steam is somehow superior than epic or D2D when they're all the same shit.
>It's just a DRM storefront.
People here worship drm boxes called consoles and you're wonder why people are praising Steam.
but it is superior
>I'm talking about the people who act like steam is somehow superior than epic
It is superior to epic because EGS is missing a fuckton of features, even basic things like user reviews
le bad!
It is what it is.
First, best dressed, and a storefront.
Its success saw almost every major company try to make their own, and most of them failed or just became an additional layer of DRM.
The fact that it brings in more money for Valve than any game could hope to has led to the whole "valve can't count to three" meme.
But, it opening up as much as it did (first with greenlight and then basically open season) has allowed smaller developers a space to put their games where they can be easily seen...
The downside of that being that there's a literal sea of trash, asset-flips, and general wastes of data floating around it as well.
Its a mixed bag, and while it is a layer of DRM itself... it is honestly the least offensive of them all.
it's entirely this.
Steams entire market are console migrant retards who don't even know how to install games or edit .ini files, and don't realize half the shit they tout as benefits of the client are better with 3rd party software or just straight downgrades, and removal of consumer rights. PC gaming is entirely dead and just console gaming in higher res now. What little microscopic remnant of actual PC gamers are left use GoG.
seethe sweeny
I dislike their inconsistent rules about what they allow or not in terms of 18+ visual novels, but besides that I have nothing bad to say about Steam.
It’s a fucking shop, valve took cs hostage to push their shop.
sales are great for a poorfag 3rd worlders like me
literally saved gaming on PC
>us
>and don't realize half the shit they tout as benefits of the client are better with 3rd party software or just straight downgrades
And what are those "3rd party softwares that are better than Steam?
>removal of consumer rights
And what are those "consumer rights" are you talking about?
>What little microscopic remnant of actual PC gamers are left use GoG.
GOG is shit, it has a shit library and is missing a lot of Japanese games
Not only that, a lot of releases are actually inferior to Steam versions
docs.google.com
Steam is pretty decent. Could be improved if all games on Steam could run solely through Steam and not require additional bullshit launchers/accounts.
i have basically my entire PC library on Steam.
does steam give free games like epic?
Because a platform relying on bankrolling interest in it is somehow equal to one that really doesn't need to?
I like the music player.
>us
sus
Anyway, I have three thoughts:
1. I think Valve is based for supporting Linux as a gaming OS, although I don't like the unintended outcome of Proton making pro-Linux developers feel as though they have permission to forgo native Linux ports and develop exclusively for Windows.
2. Whining about Steam paving the way for digital distribution is stupid, because it was inevitable. Companies weren't going to continue releasing PC games exclusively on plastic disks in the age of ubiquitous broadband internet and everyone being online all the fucking time. Imagine if Microsoft cornered this market instead.
3. Whining about Valve not developing games anymore is stupid because nobody cares. First-party games have a negligible impact on the value of Steam as a storefront and a platform.
Pros:
>I make heavy use of remote play together
>I make heavy use of steam in-home streaming to use my PC throughout my house
>I make heavy use of Steam Input
>I really appreciate SteamVR giving us a headset agnostic way to use VR hardware on PC
>I like the frequent sales
>I love steam next fest, helps me discover new games
>I like that they have reviews
>I like that they inform me if a game uses Denuvo DRM so I can avoid that game
>I like curators, they help me find cool stuff
>I like the community tab, it also helps me find cool stuff
>Does not feel like an inconvenience to use
>I will forever appreciate how proton makes playing games on my linux laptop easy
>aren't anal retentive about what gets on the store, thus I never have to worry about a twitter mob banning my ability to play a game I want to play
Cons:
>No tag dedicated to DRM free games
>Discovery queue feels like wading through a sea of trash to find a gem buried among the garbage
>Lack of transparency from valve in regards to their gaming division
>Can go a very long time without meaningful updates, even with steamlabs
>Sometimes when I add a group of non steam games to an external hard drive, steam will just forget their directories
>Can't natively integrate other store's libraries the way something like Lutris does on linux
>Can no longer block game updates from happening like you used to, leading to situations like the GTA San Andreas music removal or Beat Saber's constant breakage of mods
>Valve tried to pull paid mods at one point even if they did walk it back in a weekend, and not just pull paid mods, but offer the creators of said mods a 25% cut which is laughable that people defended
>Big picture mode on PC is presently fucking unoptimized and inconvenient trash that needs a massive update that never seems to arrive even though steam deck has had a new, better looking big picture UI for a few months now
It gets out of my way when I want it to, that's all I really care about.
you just proved his point, nobody has a gaming PC to play japanese games you faggot weeb
Fine, unless you get banned and lose all your games.
Only thing I dislike is how game badges are tied to trading cards and not achievements. Steam is great regardless, and the PC games market is a lot better because of it.
Convenient. Greenlight was great, if imperfect. The current Open Door policy is complete shit.
>The current Open Door policy is complete shit.
Wrong.
I only use steam fuck the others
My only real issue with it is that Valve should have told the denuvo faggots to fuck off and they would NEVER be allowed on the platform again after the repeated issues caused by them.
Otherwise it's alright.
>Greenlight was great,
it was a popularity contest
>forgo native Linux ports and develop exclusively for Windows.
Given the history of subpar linux ports, is that really such an issue?
>nobody has a gaming PC to play japanese games
Imagine being this delusional.
What else would you use? EGS?
>nobody has a gaming PC to play japanese games you faggot weeb
who's going to tell him
>good
>.2 hrs on record
>worst game ever
>.2 hrs at time of review (23577 hrs on record)
>TRANNY IN GAME KILL DEVS
>negative review
or
>NO TRANNY IN GAME KILL DEVS
>negative review
>dont recommend game has a bug
>negative review
>*bug gets fixed, review stays up*
>*something happens in china*
>negative reviews: 看什么差评???还不快买!!
>*filter only relevant only english
>All reviews now positive: slava ukraini praise zelenski
>meme reviews
Steam reviews are fucking worthless. Don't get me wrong, Epic is shit but god damn Steam reviews fucking suck since the only people who write them are the faggots that use steam as a social media platform and have accounts above level 8.
steam reviews inform me when there's a major technical issue with a game that needs to be resolved, your strawman of them based on the actions of a few is not an accurate representation of the reason I care about having the feature.
t. faggot who uses steam as social media
just as I thought, you have no real argument.
Everyone knows that the negative reviews are the only useful reviews, retard.
I like to make a weeb profile and look at other weeb profiles.
>noooooo you have to debate me nooooo this isnt how reddit told me the internet would go
Steam reviews are worthless, fag
They have worth to me even if they don't to you, so I'm never gonna use EGS. And judging by the popularity of games there, neither are most other people.
The only good review is pirating the game and testing it yourself.
i own nothing and I'm happy
Monopoly
did you miss the part where I said:
>Epic is shit
I'm not shilling egs you faggot fanboy. egs is shit. steam reviews are shit, your opinion is shit.
I'm console cuck who switchedvto PC in 2015.
I only use it for multiplayer games.
MMOs get their own launcher
Single player games get torrented
H games get direct downloaded
I don't understand the obsession with trying to make your profile look good or the obsession with shovelware sales where people buy games and have a unironic backlog. Just pirate at that point.
EGS is shit but I feel like it just became an easy target to deflect to whenever you say anything bad about Steam now.
>Say something bad about Steam! Clearly a EGS Chink shill!
They're almost as bad as consolewar fags.
Is that bird ok?
it's okay
I want to be able to opt out of the trading card system and to disable all toast notifactions but otherwise I have no problems.
they understood that piracy is a service problem and proceeded to leave everyone on the dust by simply supplying a decent service
I don't think about steam. I install and play games on it i guess. Cool?
Good? Bad?
fuck you saucy
the new library interface fuckin sucks, man. who asked for this shit?
