Half Life Original or Half Life Source?
Why?
Half Life Original or Half Life Source?
Half Life Unreal.
Half life: Full life consequences
Black Mesa
yes
Source had nogibs
It's honestly kind of fun to play HLS just to experience how fucking broken it is. It's one of those things where you might think "oh people are just nitpicking I'm sure it's fine" but then you crawl in an air vent and realize your flashlight stops working when you face north.
Original
Enjoy your broken jumping
The only reason to own HL:S is so you can mount it in Gmod.
Half-Life Software Rendered WON
>WON HL
Based
>software
Cringe
hmm is source any good?
it's pretty boring
are there any good games similar to HL1 and 2? I want to play something like these, no cutscenes, fp platforming, maybe a similar story...
Also, how good are HL2 episodes?
>OG
Soul
>Source
Soulless
Simple as that
I prefer the water texture and no ugly bilinear filtering.
>pc too shit to play without software render
>think it looks great
>see game running on a friends pc maxed out
>think it looks like trash
don't know what it was but it looked better somehow. maybe just my retarded child brain
Forcing an old game and their assets into a new tech doesn't work. It was meant for the limitations of the original engine, not to fit a non existing tech.
I think there's some qualities that do make the software render look better. Like in the webm above. However back then software render would have ran like ass. Same with Quake. I will always hate the look of GLQuake. The game that actually looks better with 3D acceleration imo is Unreal, though software render doesn't look too bad in that game either.
Half Life if he real
Bilinear filtering is the essence of HL souvl
I do like the look of software Half-Life, but the wavy 3D water is among its most iconic features
I like the parts where they had to straight up change parts of the levels, like here where the difference in buoyancy physics means the original puzzle wouldn't work
this reminds me of some kid who sat next to me in physics first year of uni always speedrunning half life on his laptop and talking about how cool dvorak layout was
You ever deathmatch him?
I hope some of his basedness rubbed off on you
was half-life source the original soulless remaster?
It wasn’t a remaster.
Not really. The thing with HLS is that is got more broken with time. On release it was pretty cool playing HL1 with the better lighting and water engine and ragdoll physics. Valve just never fixed it when it started getting broken by source updates.
Why did the fucking Source engine in HLS need updating then? I think I can still run the old GoldSrc game on W10.
>not animated
how is hardware rendering different visuals wise?
is there a version without loading screens?
or it only exists in my head?
HL2
At this point loading screens for HL1 shouldn't even matter unless you have a dinosaur of a computer.
Part of me suspects you couldn't have HL1 without load screens, like there would probably be segments of different levels intersecting impossibly
Original and Blackmesa are where it's @
what were they thinking with Source, what an unironic piece of shit
what's wrong with black mesa?
HL doesn't really have loading screens, it just pauses the game to switch maps with a clean cut. It's be easy to remember there being no load screens with the way it handles it.
this was my introduction to half-life. Got through about 75% of HL2 then gave up. Found it boring, terrible plot. Am I being a contrarian?
>Am I being a contrarian?
Yes but it's a contrarian opinion that's more popular. Not really the biggest fan of HL2 myself though I still like it.
Black mesa
Would Black Mesa 2 fix this?
Most people dislike HL2 becasue of the gameplay (most guns are shit, physics puzzles, long boating section), not the story. What did you dislike about it?
No it sucked
source with the non-HD models is peak soul
EP2 is kino
did FEAR have cutscenes? I don’t remember.
What even is the story? All I remember is escaping the 1984 government then rescuing some black scientist then getting betrayed by a woman scientist
MOVEMENT
take down the freeman
it has first person cutscenes and flashbacks, but no cinematic cutscenes like more conventional games. no platforming but there's some very halfassed puzzle solving
Talking HL2, I think it suffers from two very important issues (one of which isn't really its fault):
>The game doesn't lend itself well to repeat playthroughs
While HL1 has very few required cutscenes outside of the intro, HL2 has a lot of moments where a character halts your progress entirely to monologue at you. Whereas most of these moments in HL1 can be completely bypassed, HL2 gives you no way to skip these.
>It's a tech demo
HL2 was earthshattering on launch, but it's old hat now and pales in comparison to a lot of games that came after it. I'd say that every other Source game Valve released after HL2 is significantly more interesting, but I acknowledge that it had to be made. (The same could also be said for HL1 but I find HL1 much more enjoyable.)
Think in the same way that people find Seinfeld or the Beatles boring. While they seem plain now, they were breaking new ground at the time and revolutionizing the scene.
I like how they had to use out of place HL2 assets that don't match the art style at all to patch their mangled port together.
now post when he fresh
forgot to add, you fight hecu marines but better and the entire game is based around that gimmick
the reason HL2 is remembered so fondly is because it was great at the time, just look at what other games released in 2004
the game's engine was mindblowing at the time and honestly still has great physics some of the current gen games lack
Half Life Söy.
superdimensional glow nigger plants you into the capital of an alien occupied earth to destablize the occupation and prevent the aliens from finding humanity's dimensional transport technology
Mind you it explains none of that.
There is no bad HL game
Even Blue Shift?
Slow and clunky compared to the original, you have to crouch-jump at many parts where you don't normally in the original, and like the other guy said the lighting and shit gets fucked too
Valve approved it to be sold on steam therefor it's official
That's not how it works
>slow and clunky
huh? if anything, original half life is the clunkier of the two.
