3 years for this
Big news they promised 3 year ago
FFXI
What am I looking at
Some event or something?
Two weeks free login and collab in GBF
they hyped up some big announcement thats supposedto happen in may, im sure its gonna be something more signifcant
I will not play that outdated clunk. Square would have to do a full single player remake.
>30 year old game
>still getting expansions
>while the company already has a replacement MMO for it (14)
?
14 is the tranny containment "game"
I have no idea why the do it. The game is literally shit right now. Filled with people that can't let go the past and playing a new version that they don't like. It's just sad and i have no idea why they don't shut it down.
>mfw PlayOnline
This is may.
>It's just sad and i have no idea why they don't shut it down.
Because it still turns a profit, so there is literally no reason to shut it down.
Where the fuck do Garlaige Citadel coffers spawn? I keep running around the place and I can't find any. I just want my RDM AF gear.
because like gw1 it probably costs pennies to maintain. what amazes me is they're still producing content for it after it went into maintenance mode.
>when your game still exists because there are still 13 people in Japan who still play it and the moment you decide to shut off the server because its not cost efficient to keep the game running anymore they will come for you and kill you
Even FFXI still turns in a pretty crazy profit.
The power of sunken cost + subscriptions
So i can log in and play right now?
It's a sub fee game, they easily make back whatever investment they go with
It’s a mainline Final Fantasy title, it will never be taken offline.
I don't think it turns crazy profit. I would guess it still has profit with little to no investment but no way it has anything crazy on it.
Never underestimate a whale. Servers for 20 year old games like FFXI and EQ cost next to nothing because they take up next to nothing. There's a reason why blizz poached longdale from EQ. Combine sub fees with an in game shop and you're making a couple milly off of 80K MAUs
Doesn't the sub fee cost the same as XIV? Surely those servers don't require as much upkeep
>it's a mainline Final Fantasy tittle that is single player and you HAVE to pay a monthly sub for the story
These fuckers are actually smart
FFXI doesn't have a cash shop
Past banishing gate 2 and 3. If you're solo your best bet is going into the past and through garlaige then coming back to sauromugue and using the maw to come back to the present and then back into garlaige, this will put you behind gate 3 where 3 coffers spawn.
I guess in retail you can also use weighted stones to open gates solo. Check wiki for this stuff it's all there.
It's still pretty significant considering the upkeep. Still has a surprising amount of subscriptions
It's obviously not on the same level as their big money makers though.
Do I play retail or some private server for this game?
>replacement
Depends on what you want. What do you want?
private server.
Biggest ones are Wings and Eden if I recall correctly.
Nasomi is dead.
Wings has been a good time purely due to mostly open source with a fairly active dev team but the GM team are a bunch of faggot, however what private server doesn't have a gm team full of fags
I don't have any experience in eden
>Remember playing this back in 2005 or something
>12 year old ESL, didn't really speak English, too shy to write much anyway
>Got to some desert/beach area where you had to group up to grind mobs
>Never played past that
>Still have some fond adventure memories
Should I try it out? Is there anything fun to do in the game?
I mean if your server runs on a fax machine and you pay like 5 people to realease shit once every 10 months then more than 50 people subbing is a success.
retail it is then
>Nasomi is dead.
What? When did that happen?
Wings came out with open source and a lot of independent dev teams.
Nasomi never updated shit for years so everyone jumped ship
It's a good way to experience the story, but you'll miss out on the MMO aspect of the 75cap era.
Nothing wrong with that though if that's what you're after. I really enjoy the story in XI especially so the job quests
>the MMO aspect of the 75cap era
This is gone forever anyway. At least the world and story are still great. It's the last MMO in my book.
THE ETERNAL DEBATE
I did after two hours holy shit
>Need to buy the game to play
>Need to pay a sub to continue playing
>Free trial is somehow worse than FF14
What the fuck?
Voiced by Aya Hirano and Emiri Kato respectively so that's great
Also the GBF collab basically confirms the mobile remake is coming out soon
>Still no F2P
>Still no Mobile version (which they cancelled, BTW)
>Skeleton crew just pumping out some lore updates
It's a wonder Square hasn't sunk yet.
>Also the GBF collab basically confirms the mobile remake is coming out soon
Do you feel good playing with my feelings like that?
>Free trial is somehow worse than FF14
The fact they haven't changed it from the out dated two weeks to 14's "play a good chunk and then pay us if you enjoyed that at your leisure" system is baffling.
>Also the GBF collab basically confirms the mobile remake is coming out soon
user...
Yeah, I was shocked when I needed to own the game to participate in the "Return Home to Vana'diel" campaign.
It’s not baffling at all, they correctly estimate that people will not stick around after an extensive free trial, so they cash in their new players early.
>RUSH CONTENT FOR TWO WEEKS AND BURN OUT
vs
>Play content for two months for free and if you enjoyed it pay us
>cash in on new players early
...If you say so user. New players will just
>Private server
What debate? Shantoto is objectively the best XI waifu BY FAR.
Mainly because she's not created as a player's masturbation machine like every expansion waifu. They were pathetic with that shit.
The game was designed for 75 cap, so private server will give that. retail is a theme park, if you just wanna zoom through the story in a month, do that.
die
I mean, the XIV trial is the exception. Most trials are not that long and come with much more gameplay restrictions. You can only do that when you’re seriously confident in your product. How confident can you really be in an ancient MMO in less than maintenance mode?
But retail have the whole story. Or that doesnt matter?
>Or that doesnt matter?
It depends. Do you want all the story? If so, then play retail.
NOoooooooooooo you useless fucking nigger
>EU store free trial says this
>NA store free trial starts bitching about shipping address
This is too much of a headache to test the game for 5 mins and drop it
Private servers are strictly for if you want to try to emulate the classic feel of the game in regards to gameplay, grinding, and interacting with the world. Getting a party together to hit an exp camp and doing that for a few hours, for instance. If you want to do the story first and foremost, you might as well do retail.
You haven't even started downloading the game yet. Get a drink, you'll need it.
I was talking about if the story that retail has is worth it enough to make you play an inferior version such as retail
Retail is not the game you remember. It's good if you just want to experience the story, but it's entirely soloable now and it's basically the end game hardcore autists keeping it afloat.
And that depends on what you want out of the game. If you're seeking the classic feel of how most goals require you to find a party to accomplish them, then private is the way to go. The story itself has good and average expansions. Rise of the Zilart is the first one and mostly exists to set things up, Chains of Promathia is the second and widely regarded as one of the best MMO stories to this day, Treasures of Aht Urghan is next and pretty good as well. The next couple expansions are average, then Adoulin and Rhapsodies of Vanadiel are pretty great. Private servers usually only go to Treasures at most.
So how "you're the chosen one" are you in FF11?
Why the fuck is it so hard for you to process that nobody's saying it's got millions of players, just that it turns a surprisingly large profit for its age?
Not at all. You're a random adventurer that gets caught up in big situations by circumstance.
You're not and it's refreshing, and actually works with the fact that it's an MMO. You're a skilled adventurer, often helping those actually powerful people in the world.
PC in FFXI is the glue that binds the dysfunctional but overpowered NPCs together and gets them to save the world.
What I'm interested in more is whether the story is actually GOOD or not. Are we talking core FF game stuff or just a bit better MMORPG fare?
It's on par with the singleplayer FF games, so yes, it's worth it.
It's really good and deserves its place as a mainline FF game. Chains of Promathia alone is one of the best vidya stories ever written.
Man - i still have so much Galka porn
