If Square wanted to truly take a risk with the whole time jannies being gone thing and do the only thing that could possibly recapture the shock of Aeris' (THAS RITE, AERIS WITH A S) death in the original they would kill off Tifa instead of her, especially since Tifa popularity seems to be at an all time high now.
