Back in 2002 this map felt gigantic!
Morrowind
It is still a huge game
no it didn't boomer
take your alzheimer meds
still feels pretty robust compared to most modern open world games desu
It really did, I still haven't explored a lot of the islands and north eastern part too much
Yeah but now we know its because you moved like you were constantly walking through a foot of mud and there were cliffracers on every hill. It had tricks and we didn't have much open world games at that time to go on.
Dense makes things feel bigger than large and empty. Who cares about a huge stretch of road that serves no purpose except to fill space between two places that actually have something?
I'm not following your point user.
Nah, even with high movement speed it feels like a big place imo. There’s a lot to do and there’s diversity in environment and a huge number of factions and locations to pillage/plunder.
Morrowindfans be like:
>damn, that's a nice view
Another trick was no fast travel without paying for a ride at certain locations. It had its tricks user there is no shame in admitting it. That doesn't mean they didn't put a lot of soul into it because it clearly has tons of it.
This, if anything makes Morrowind feel small it's the wide array of teleport tools the player has (stuff like spell teles, striders, boats, etc). Going down a foyada at 80 athletics 100 speed still takes a very long time to get around. People who think Morrowind is small probably use the boots of blinding speed lol.
T. Host a tes3mp server for my friends
Lmao true, openmw fixes this though. And anyone sane is already using that remake.
Gaming needs to bring this back. Atmosphere like this is pure soul.
still is huge imho, it only ever feels small when you are leaping through it.
I have always used the Boots of Blinding Speed and the game still feels colossal.
still does, even with a mod that increases all entities' speeds
are there any morrowind dungeons that aren't shallow as hell? ancestral tombs are shit
You're going to want to play Daggerfall for that since I assume you want obscure mazes to play instead.
tombs are fucking terrible
half the time they only have bonemeal
sometimes you'll find some scrolls and potions
and you're in and out within 2 minutes
nah daggerfall is too extreme, and i don't find getting lost in a maze enjoyable.
i was actually happy enough with skyrim's dungeon length. surprised how crap morrowind's are.
>needing every dungeon to give you some epic weapon or armor because you are too add to appreciate a game that holds back on constant rewards
I see no problem with the game. Only with you.
yeah. there can be good stuff in dwarven ruins, but they're also tiny.
sooner or later you realise there's simply no reason to explore tombs, ever
you are allowed to admit that morrowind isn't perfect
Bro with max athletics it's still takes a while to run anywhere.
Unless you didn't know you could run and were WALKING the whole time. AHAHAHAAHA
how is it possible I can only get 70 fps in morrowind on a modern computer?
Skyrim is literally only fighting dragurs or whatever those zombies were called in almost every single dungeon. Then you had that baby tier puzzle solving. I won't say its awful but its not that much a step up from morrowind.
Are you running OpenMW? My GTX 760 was getting 400 FPS before I modded it.
disable shadows
They wanted to include all of Morrowind right Yea Forums not just the island we play in with the main game?
Yes. That's how Tamriel Rebuilt got it's start, the Telvanni Peninsula was pretty much done, and got datamined out.
Oh so the Telvanni house controlled that part of the land?
I miss Ashfall, but I don't miss crashing
you can get lost for HOURS on vivec, map is fucking huge
I'm not sane then. I need every single crash and hickup the original engine offers for the ultimate Morrowind experience
>OpenMW
yes
Currently playing through it again and doing Telvanni Wizard shit. I totally forgot there was a printed map for this shit.
Oh speaking of, what are some good enchantments for mage characters? I'm level 33 and I'm at a complete loss for what I should enchant. I've got a constant effect for slowfall and waterwalking.
What other game in 2002 had a larger map?
The one cave that turns into a daedric tomb was cool
I like exploring tombs because I like exploring tombs. The chance of an amazing reward is just bonus. I like the tomb atmosphere.
tombs in morrowind are a corridor + 1 small room, maybe 2 or 3 if you are lucky
where is solstheim
There's also the tomb that has the long spiral downward, that turns into a maze that leads into a cave with a Nord buried in his longship with a Daedric helmet.
What's the best mod for content in Morrowind? I've probably got like 2k hours in this game over the years but have only ever played it vanilla, besides a handful of QoL mods. I just started a new character, but kinda want to try out what the community has to offer.
>island thats an unlivable hell scape where people can only survive on the edges
It just looks like Australia.
Yes, they are cozy and realistic and I can do them on my way to another town without needing to worry about getting too distracted. It's nice having lower time requirement dungeons available. Normal dungeons I always have to make a note of so I can come back to them later.
Plus I get to fight undead enemies which is always fun because they are so different from normal animals and monsters. And tombs tend to have valuable gems in them or vampires with ashes. I think I even found daedric stuff once.
Tombs have cool sounds in them also. Morrowind sound design blew my mind as a teenager. I still think about Morrowind sounds.
Daggerfall, kek
How big is the ESO version?
I just played for the first time last year and it still felt big. Used a movement speed mod too so it wasn't that.
Back in 2002 I rented Morrowind, made a character, got outside of town, swung my weapon at a rat, visually it connects but the game says it missed, I die to rat, I then return the game to the rental shop.
It's actually because the view distance is incredibly small, so you can't stand on top of the central mountain and see the disneyland theme park in front of you.
I loathe skyrim dungeons, I don't want to spend 50% of the game's overall playtime in terrible dungeons with terrible combat, AI, and stealth. Exploring the world space and running into new distractions and playing with systems is what's good about Skyrim, dungeons should be like 10 minute distractions
Oh just play Sony open worlds.
Tsushima and Horizon spam that fucking fog to save on draw distance.
ancestral tombs aren't the only dungeons you retard. go find one of these
We need a game that is big like Morrowind but multiplied by like a thousand times.
We have it. It's called Skyrim.
No we don't, we need a game that's even smaller so the developers can fit even more detail around every corner, and also get rid of that stupid interior/exterior thing the shitty TES engine has
Tamriel rebuilt without hesitation, the work they did is amazing, and it sticks to pre oblivion lore, good writing and nice cities and dungeons.
I advise to go with a new character tho, otherwise it might be too easy with vanilla deadric and named stuff
>good writing
No. It's very tropey and uninteresting.
That's where I was looking to start, and yeah I always make new characters when trying new things. Thanks.
That's fine honestly, I know it's fan shit in the end. I just want to see new places and maybe get new gear that I haven't seen and gotten a hundred times before.
It takes like five minutes to run from Balmora to Vivec without any cheese. The fuck are you on about?
i want something to crawl
>running into new distractions and playing with systems is what's good about Skyrim
like in dungeons
>stealth
stealth in skyrim is the best it has ever been in a TES game
while a step up from ancestral tombs, those are also quite short
