Of all EarthBound clones, which one comes the closest to capturing the feel of the original EarthBound?
By which I mean, which clone has that right kind of quirkyness and youthful bliss without inserting melodrama and muh mental illness alegories?

Because Earthbound didn't have any of that, no siree
Not Undertale
Neither Deltarune
It literally doesn't
I can't even think of any Earthbound clones
You probably played one and didn't realized it
Mother 3 does with trauma, but Earthbound doesn't. Earthbound has an extremely generic story and none of the characters are motivated by anything, it's the setting and writing that is unique.
The closest is probably Lisa, but even that isn't quite tbe same as it has way more edge to it.
Copying the actual asoect that made the series so special, its sincerity, is something most people can't do.
I see the resemblance, but can't put my finger on what exactly it is.
>generic story
>setting and writing are unique
Nigga what the fuck are you talking about?
Setting and writing is like 90% of the story
LISA is completely sincere, I don't think the "edge' detracts from anything.
If you mean what the art is based on, it's DOOM
>Ness! You're the chosen one! Now you must meet up with these three kids and get the 3 macguffins and kill the bad guy!
Did I stutter?
Makes perfect sense to me
LISA
They're not clones
Literally none of them from what I know
>Earthbound inspired
>Expecting a grand adventure that kids would dream about
>It's about depression, escapism, and coming of age
Unironically, The Stick of Truth.
Technically not an Earthbound clone, but Matt & Trey mentioned Mother in interviews about the game, in that it inspired a lot of things within it.
Stick of truth is my favorite paper mario clone
None of them, because all they focus on is le wacky and goofy random humour
The Mother games were bizarre, but there's also some depth behind it all
Hoenstly in terms of a turn based rpg with a contenporary setting and wacky dialouge, Yakuza 7 gives those kind of vibes more than anything released lately.
Name 5.
That’s a Dragon Quest clone, you actual retard.
>Earthbound inspired rpg
>its actually inspired by mother 3
I'd say the closest is LISA but honestly, nothing is quite like Mother/Earthbound.
youtube.com
... You know what Mother is, right?
Name 5.
Some of these weren’t inspired by Earthbound at all. And Yume Nikki isn’t even RPG.
Irrelevant. Being a Dragon Quest clone doesn’t make it a Mother clone.
It was made in RPGMaker. You role play as a girl that lucid dreams. You collect items, can kill enemies, and there's a final ending.
It’s just being ironic, dipshit. Stop getting upset over a joke.
It’s still not an RPG.
But OP question was what games feels close to Earthbound. Lisa is a whole different best thematically compared to earthbound
Lisa the painful unironically
If you disagree you don't know shit about video games.
You're fucking stupid.
oddity
Shut the fuck up, Andrew.
>you PLAY a ROLE!!!!!
>You COLLECT ITEMS!!!
>You can KILL THINGS!!!!
>IT HAS AN ENDING!!!
By that logic Doom, Banjo-Kazooie, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Gears of War are all RPGs.
More like oddinever coming the fuck ouI WANT TO SEE MERYL'S PANTIES SO BAD GODDAMN
It’s not even out.
I don't know why but I fucking love seeing alex in these kind of images. literally every time I see 'earthboundlike' group images I immediately move to pick him out like fucking waldo
:)
that garage has melodrama
Doom sorta is an RPG, in the way that Catacomb 3D kinda was.
It’s Wally, you fat cunt.
Am I misremembering or does earthbound have nothing to do with mental illness and """art""" I remember it being a goofy rpg with some funny dialogue
It’s not. The original Tom Hall version was going to be an RPG, but that got thrown out
Yeah if we ignore monotoli shit, evergreen, giygas influences over the world and everything it sums up to that
Mother 3 sums up to
>Lucas, your family is dying go gather the 7 needles to save the world!
Also MOTHER 1 is the hest of the trilogy if you disagree you were filtered and a shitter
Yeah, Poo getting mutilated was really goofy and funny.
I knew you were retarded, but holy fuck.
Yeah, but I meant that Catacomb 3D wasn't really one, but kinda felt like one.
its far closer to being goofy than it is to being an allegory for mental illness
It's like a 90's kid cartoon where it's all fun and games 95% of the time, but you have some weird or dark stuff here and there that catches you off guard. Earthbound is pretty dark in this respect since all that serious stuff is actually central to the plot
Don’t forget the police brutality and the hooker.
>lucas in the back
kek
Yes
anyone who even tries to pretend any of these games are comparable to mother and its writing should be immediately disregarded
Mother isn't about mental illness but you can't fault people for taking inspiration from a series about mindscapes and loss of innocence and surprise horror and deciding to make a trauma-focused game.
Sure, Ness doesn't secretly want to kill himself, but I've got some kind of feeling that Giegue may have wanted to at some point. He dealt with his guilt by utterly consuming himself in a horrific and painful rage.
She's wearing tights user. They'd be all sweaty.
I heard the Doom RPG was good. I know for a fact Doom: the Roguelike kicks ass
