it may be the worst 3d mario but it's still fun

still better than galaxy 1

It's still better than the vast majority of 3D platformers before and since. It's just conspicuously unpolished compared to the other 3D Mario games in terms of how it manages its content.

What are you in for? The best 3d mario, ofc.

When I replayed the game for the first time in years on the 3D collection it made me realize that the movement is way better than the shit ass movement in 64.

It's good. Better than galaxy 2 imo and brimming with soul youtu.be/0PjVzzK2PrM

It's eh whatever
You need to be in the mood for it
You enjoy 3D Mario and want more. Sure.
Don't expect a masterpiece, or mario 64. It's more 3d mario and that's it. It's serviceable. The *wow look at dem graphics* factor is long gone. It's a just a eh game now

It's a good game, it's just that there are a LOT of PTSD levels that are mandatory to complete the game so a lot of people get filtered at some point or another.

I was never really into the game but when I played it on 3D Allstars I really thoroughly enjoyed it.

It might not be the "best" mario on paper, but I find it to be the most enjoyable.

Really fun Island setting and levels.
Some of the challenge levels are quite challenging
The mechanics of the FLUDD are fun.

For the record, I'm a 33 year old boomer, I had it on Gamecube as a kid but never really played it that much. Playing it as an adult I really found it to be quite good. I liked it better than Galaxy.

It's the buggiest, most incomplete mainline Mario game ever released. There's a reason why Nintendo never references or celebrates it nowadays. They're ashamed of it. They scrubbed Isle Delfino off the map in Super Mario Odyssey before release. They know they fucked up.

They know giving it to Koizumi to infantilize it with a toy water gun concept was a mistake.
They know it was the least favorably reviewed Mario game of all time up until that point by fans and outlets.
They know they rushed it out the door in under 1.5 years to desperately try and save the GameCube. It didn't work.

The game was also cringe incarnate, right down to the enviromental awareness ads with the singing chorus of kids.

Honestly, in many ways, it's actually the Sonic Adventure of Mario games. Both of them have:

>An overreliance on the narrative.
>Unhealthy focus on NPCs.
>Crutches for 3D platforming.
>Lots of padding and filler, to artificially extend the playtime.
>Many infamous "that part" moments.
>Tons of glitches and exploits.

I never really understood where Mario fans get off on being so cocky and smug towards Sonic fans when they've had it just as bad in the past.

Is it the fact that it's made by Nintendo that gives it a free pass from objectively criticizing it? Sunshine isn't the 9/10 masterpiece zoomers make it out to be. It's actually more of a... 6/10. Solidly mediocre, only carried by brand name alone... Just like Sonic. Anyone who didn't grow up with Nintendo (And isn't an eternal cubie manchild), can see the game for what it really is.

tl;dr - I still like the game

>It's the bugg-
Didn't read, Sunshine is god tier Mario.

very nice aesthetic
annoying fucking jank. I remember those no fludd levels where I'd jump on a moving spinning wooden wheel thing then mario would get stuck in a jump/fall loop so he'd go ho-ho-ho-oh-ho-ho-ho then fall to his death and it sent me into seething rage

It's good and better/more challenging than galaxy 1 which feels like a baby game to me.

It is the least polished 3d mario, however.

Sunshine is still overwhelmingly better than Sonic Adventure. They aren't comparable at all.

Back then?
My g*d Sunshine was the coolest shit ever
A next gen Mario 64? holy shiet, count me in bro

Right now it's Mario Galaxy retard edition
It does feel like a fucking Sonic game for sure lmao

This, it's basically part of the pantheon of "overrated by a segment of Nintendo fanboys hyperobsessed with Gamecube/GBA-era video games" alongside Wind Waker and Melee.

it's the worst one, expect the worst one

It's arguably the best one.

The atmosphere is great, I love the music and Delfino Island.

It's the worst true 3D mario.
But that don't make it bad

Why do zoomers hate this game so much while anyone that grew up playing this game loves it? Nostalgia is not the answer as most people that grew up with n64 and sunshine prefer sunshine

It literally feels like you are on vacation. I come from up North so maybe the people down South don't feel this way but I actually felt like I was relaxing by the beach and loved it. Too many times in Mario 64 I was near a ledge and went to jump but missed the jump or dove by accident and fell all the way to the bottom of the stage. In Sunshine you have some wiggle room because of the jet pack and on certain platforming levels you can use the rocket pack to launch back up very quickly and it gives more options to how you beat the level. The blue coins can go fuck themselves and unless you actively use a guide with a check list you will be pulling your hair out. I used a guide on my 10th playthrough (I love this game) and had to redo certain chapters looking for coins. I played through the Switch version and it plays great.

redpill me on sea of stars

What is your opinion on Smash Bros. Melee

3D Land is still worse because it’s fucking boring NSMB-tier shit.

Better than Super Mario 3D World imo

Galaxy ruined 3D mario

Platforming around Delfino Plaza for fun is peak 3D Mario.

Super Mario Zoomshine

The intro kicks so much ass, MELEEEEEEEEEE
So good, the game is kinda dated now. Not as good as I remember, Brawl kinda sucks too, or sucks alot more than I remember. both are decent / entertaining. They are no longer 10/10 masterpieces. The best smash imo is 4 3ds. It's cute and comfy.
For sure

It's actually the best one but it filtered the plebs hard. I'm still astonished at the number of people bitching about the Sand Bird level.

It's good except for the pachinco machine and the blue coins in Noki Bay

Weird, except for a broken progress system it's the best one.

>ctrl+f "good" 7 results
>ctrl+f "best" 6 results
>ctrl+f "great" 2 results
i fucking hate zoomers

>Brawl was never good. Nothing in the Wii era was good.

Super Mario Sunshine is the Mario game for high level, highly skilled individuals.
Utilitarian level design, fluid, fast platforming and movement with snappy controls, sandbox levels with multiple routes, each of which just as viable as the other.
It's the Mario game for those who want cold, hard, pure quality gameplay and not superfluous nonsense such as what you would find in 64 with large empty levels or Galaxy with an abundance of boring, one-use powers and slug-like movement.

better than odyssey and galaxies for sure

its the most unfinished 3d mario
but its also the one with the best movement
musics great but that's true of almost all mario
you'll have a good time

i'm 28 though

Autistic faggot

Sunshine is an excellent game failed by its mission design. Some of the worst, most-poorly designed missions to ever grace a 3D platformer can be found in Sunshine, but inversely some of the best movement mechanics and controls as well. This game is the reason why Nintendo had stopped rushing its games out the door to meet deadlines.

There's no mascot game that's been as bad as Sonic Boom. Even Bubsy can be cocky towards Sonic

Wind Waker I can see, but Melee?

It's one of the best Mario games and the only people that think it's not are the retarded 64 man children

>RPG being made with actual effort put into the pixel art
>it's inspired by Chrono Trigger and uses the same 'random battle' system where you see the enemies and they run up to you for the battle to start. It's in development and will be released at the end of the year. You can join the Discord to get more information but based on the demo I played it is like a combination of Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG (Timed Hits).

It also comes with a Fishing Mini Game

the game does look great
>no random encounters
I shall wishlist it

Melee is only liked by people that love the intricate tech, its much like sunshine in that regard where the only people that still play the games are the hardcore autists and have made them a part of their identity. However at least melee is still on the top end of smash games personally still an argument for it being the best, I like ultimate too though. Galaxy, 3D world, odyssey and 64 are better than sunshine

Basic movement is great, stages are big and have unique themes.

However, the game lacks polish compared to other Marios games, the objectives are much more repetitive (for example, two red coin quests reused per area, several times, most racing or secret area shines also have a 2nd shine where you go in there again) and they're linear in spite of the big open levels (AKA, when you choose a stage you're locked to that star, like in Galaxy 1 and 2, in spite of the levels being technically open areas unlike in those two). Even with all that the game didn't have enough content and there's tons of filler blue coins which sometimes can be hell to search for (since some only appear in specific shine missions)

>Sunshine is an excellent game failed by its mission design.
Depends on what you mean by that. If it had more time in the oven, a lot of it's worse levels could have had their issues ironed out. That sand bird doesn't need any design change, it just needed better physics for jumping on moving objects and it'd be great. That's the pattern that shows up across many of sunshine's worst missions, they all have you interacting with something new that behaves in unusual ways because they didn't have time to get the dandelions, chucksters, or fruit kicking polished.

Sunshine is utilitarian? Sunshine makes up for it's bugs with soul and atmosphere. Every level is covered in details completely pointless for actual gameplay, but sell the tropical environment. Sunshine is the only mario game with levels that feel more like living places than like obstacle courses, the only comparable game is Odyssey and Odyssey is shit.

I like it the most. There are comfy little stories being told with each new shine, changing up the levels and NPC dialogue based on the context.
This game does it better than any other Mario game.

I don't think it'd be hard for nintendo to beat sunshine on that front, but they seem adamant on not trying.

Where did you hear that?

tumblr noses

Its 3D Mario but you're forced into using the same power-up for the entirety of the game.
The Jetpack gimmick is fun, but it overstays its welcome.

Attached: 1510663738382.jpg (500x406, 89.13K)

>more stars than Mario 64
>only half the levels
What were they thinking.

That said, the platforming is way more fun than in Mario 64, even without the backpack.

Mario 64 but clunky and with a jetpack, that's about it.

>more stars than Mario 64
its the same number and also 24 of those are for blue coins you incorrect fucker

It's a good game if you don't go for 100%. Ignore collecting blue coins, ignore every shine after the Shadow Mario shines, don't do anything extra unless it's fun. The game was clearly rushed out the door to save the Gamecube, and what people complain about is mostly the janky dogshit like the pachinko shine you don't even have to do. So yes, it's the worst 3D Mario compared to the other console ones, but it's still good and has fascinating and downright amazing moments.

Sonic Adventure 1 has way better music than Sunshine.

Worst 3D mario but very SOULFUL

Maybe. That's about it.

People always talk up the "secret" areas but i hated them. It's just a bunch of random shit in a void like the worst SM64 level only now you have stupid shit like "walk along a cube as it slowly spins"

>consider grabbing other shines
>remember there is zero point because only shadow mario missions matter
>100% would involve guidereading for blue coins or spraying random walls for entirely too long

blue coins were fun to find and we will never have such cleverly hidden secrets again because everyone cries about them
