Always has been. Even if there's now a way to raise IVs that doesn't involve breeding (haven't played it, don't know how tedious it is) there's still nature and egg moves. If you want to truly raise your pokemon to be as strong as possible you have to throw the original and countless reject babies in the trash, spitting right in three face of the cookiecutter "story" about friendship and pokemon are partners not animals etc etc. The games are designed so that character optimization, one of the few joys of RPGs, is supposed to be ignored.

Optimizing stats is fun (in other games) though.
Pokemon's problem is that optimization boils down to walking in circles near the daycare for way too long waiting to get good numbers by random chance. I want to optimize but the game tells me my only option is hundreds of hours of nothing. Even with terrible EVs and IVs a pokemon can still fight just fine but a particularly bad nature is devastating.

Found a shiny Tentacool in HGSS recently, pretty cool, I miss when Shines were more rare, nowadays the one in 8000 chance has fallen as low as one in 170, makes them less rare and special.

Just soft reset a static encounter until you get it, there's no skill involved unless you count patience as a skill.

Mints can change natures and you can max IVs with bottle caps. Only things you can miss are 0 IV speed for trick room or egg moves.

GF had a weird fixation on making things slow in gen 7.

Actually both of these have workarounds now. There are mints that change natures and egg moves can now be passed to an adult by another mon of the same species if left in the day care together with an open move slot.

It just requires you to be level 100, which is pretty easy in SS with exp candies.
