It's a pretentious walking simulator, OP. What did you expect?

Seething

Imagine spending 25 dollars when the 2013 demo is better.

It's a joke and also commentary on how in the grand scheme of things our collective experience is nothingn when compared to the infinity of time so it's not worth getting upset about one way or the other.
Also the fact that you want a skip button for a game whose entire selling point is the narrator is kind of redundant.

Yes.

Filtered

>been hearing about it for years and years.
>finally pirate it to see what the deal is
>you just walk forward and voice tells you were to go
>you can sometimes do something other than what the voice tells you to do
>you feel like a naughty little boy
i dont get it, how is this fun for more than 5 minutes?

they did it before with a trailer and it was one of their better ones.

it's the ultimate reddit game
all quips, no gameplay

if your not an autistic baby that needs constant flashing lights, colors, and loud noises to produce even an ounce of dopamine, its actually a really enjoyable experience believe it or not

It was revolutionary when it came out because it criticized walking simulators that were all the rage back in 2013.

It also provided meta commentary in a time where that was very rare. Undertale made meta commentary mainstream and now even overused and cliche but Undertale released 2 years after the Stanley Parable.

Hell this ultra deluxe edition even makes fun of the fact that meta commentary is now overdone and that a sequel would be impossible to make due to that.

I thought it was amusing, but the problem is that I didn't want to pay for it. So I unironically got the whole experience on youtube. I'm sorry devs, but this just isn't that much of a video game. If I can watch someone else play it and not feel like I'm missing out, therein lies a fundamental issue. Even if Kevin Brighting is a funny narrator, he doesn't make up for the lack meaningful gameplay.

the fun is the variety of ways you can make the story play out and things you can do that get a reaction from the narrator

It's suppose to be some big artsy metaphor about life and God. Yawn, my life was nothing like that.

>I thought it was amusing, but the problem is that I didn't want to pay for it. So I unironically got the whole experience on youtube.
Do zoomers really? I also didn't pay for it but I still played it.

>nu-Yea Forums gets filtered by meta jokes now
Every day you disappoint me more.

It’s not really a game as much as an interactive comedy skit

This isn't exactly a shmup or an action game, where the whole appeal is your input. You're basically just walking down hallways.

Does it shock you to know that I also marathoned the whole Uncharted series on youtube? I'm not paying 200 bucks just to have a watered down Lara Croft/Indiana Jones making snarky quips every 5 seconds.

>Are you shocked that I also did this other stupid thing?
Not really

>game is about seeing how the Narrator reacts to your choices
>you decide to give watch a youtube video so you don't even have a choice
holy shit user you're retarded

>had a blast combing this game for secrets and Easter eggs with Yea Forums back at launch
>already bored of the remaster 30 minutes in
Is this old age or am I still burned out 10 years later?

If you want to pay legal tender for movie games, be my guest.

I seriously dont get this meme. Uncharted was like 5% cutscenes before TLoU poisoned Naughty Dog and the story that was there exists only to provide exciting gameplay moments and sucks on its own.

was the bucket thing supposed to be tongue in cheek?
because a second after touching I never wanted to have anything to do with it ever again

>buying video games
they're free

pay?

Naughty boy simulators are a multibillion dollar industry
I certainly like naughty boy games

The only reason to ever watch someone else playing the game is if your PC can't run it. Can your PC really not run The Stanley Parable, user?
You can play without paying in many different ways, many of them aren't even illegal, so what's the problem?

Try jumping.

>port it to Unity
>still looks like it was made it in Source

Why? They should have taken advantage of the newer engine

what fucking meta commentary did undertale have?
are you a retard? it's about killing monsters and leaveing a cave, simple as.

imagine if they went to Yea Forums instead

used all my jumps already sorry

Again, what benefit is there in playing it, if I get the whole experience via youtube?

We're not saying you should buy it. We're saying you can just play it for free and get the real full experience instead of watching a youtube lets play like a retarded zoomer.

>he didn't activate "unlimited jumps outside the circle" mode
lol. Sucks to be you
I thought it was a glitch until I saw the dark souls soapstone message

I don't get why they switched to unity in the first place. They just spent years learning a new engine and porting all of the Portal 2 and CSS assets they were using over. The only thing they changed is that you now play Firewatch and rocket league instead of minecraft and portal in the games ending.

You can get the whole experience of Tetris from a gameplay as well. Every single move and combination of ways for the bricks to fall is there to see on youtube.

It's how YOU experience the stanley parable, how YOU PERSONALLY react to the choices the first time you face them that makes the experience worth it. Not seeing all the different paths on youtube, that's the most soulless zoomer shit I've ever heard.

>What benefit is there in going to a museum if I can see pictures of the works of art on the internet?
You didn't even play the game. The fun part of it is to think "What happens if I do this? Will he react? How will he react?". If you're watching a video, it's never "if", but "when".
There is a great difference between getting the Art Ending by yourself, and seeing someone else do it - they will edit out all the grind and show only the ending itself, because no one wants to see four hours of button-mashing. You will never understand how good it feels to finally finish that God-forsaken ending.
What you do is like reading a synopsis of a book and claiming to be more learned than the people who have actually read the book. You are so petty you need to claim your superiority on videogames on a Siberian porn forum, when you don't even have the capacity to play a walking simulator.

yes this game has commentary for all criticism. All bases covered and diapers filled.

Consoles

Zoomer spotted

Should I play the new version or old one is better? Never tried this game for myself and just want to have a look myself, but doubt that I'll play second one after finishing first or vice versa.

Only a retard would pay for something like this, but the whole point is that you get to make your own choices. That's half of the joke.

new version is the old one but with more shit. The only real difference is that in the games ending you walk around in Firewatch and Rocket League, instead of Minecraft and Portal

new version, has everything the old one had and then some

The new game is just the old one but with a big door labeled "new content" that gets unlocked after a few playthroughs. Although I heard they changed one of the endings that was a parody of portal and MC into some soulless firewatch shit, so I guess optimally you play the original, and then get the new game and speedrun a few endings to get to the new content.

>It's a joke and also commentary on how in the grand scheme of things our collective experience is nothingn when compared to the infinity of time
Did a twelve-year-old write this shit?
Their fucking response to criticism is "t-the universe is big so it doesn't matter!" fucking kek

I enjoyed that dig at firewatch being about a pervert in his pervert tower spying on teenagers

Ah, I see. I'll try the new one then, maybe watch those cut endings on youtube. Shame because firewatch seems like one of those gay ass DEEEP STORY walking sims that are a slog. This game doesnt tske itself seriously at least.

Source can't run on consoles? Wasn't Portal 2's main thing that it ran on the PS3? Didn't TF2 get a 360 release?
Hell, the portals got on the switch this year.

>Wasn't Portal 2's main thing that it ran on the PS3?
>Didn't TF2 get a 360 release?
We're not in the PS360 era anymore.

>It also provided meta commentary in a time where that was very rare
Keep in mind this post is referring to the mid 2010s

Exactly. It should be even easier to make source run today.

Early 2010's.
TSP released in 2011. The proper game did so in 2013. Meta fuckery didnm't get big until undertale.

The Stanley Parable is a game about The Stanley Parable.

Still unbeaten

>Drops a newgrounds link from 2006
Glad to see I'm not the only oldfag still here

He's full of shit, Titanfall was made as an Xbox game and it runs on modified Source.

The original demo was neat as a sort of interactive thesis on choice in games. Nothing mindblowing or anything, even bigger games like Bioshock had already dabbled on the subject, but neat nonetheless.
After that they stretched out this one idea for the sake of a full paid release and the game turns into just a comedy routine. Most of the jokes boil down to do something stupid and hear the narrator acknowledge that he knows you're doing something stupid just to see if he'll acknowledge.

You know how pretending to be retarded still makes you retarded? That's Stanley Parable.

The game was designed as a giant shitpost to make fun of walking simulators. But it was the first to have meta commentary about lack of choices in games so it went viral and became a classic due to that.

Metacommentary is completely out of fashion now as every single indiegame since undertale has done the same.

No, the game isn't pretending to be retarded, the game makes fun about how pretending to be pretentious and cool is retarded.
Is intentionally acting like a retard while also properly using it's mechanics to make an actual game. Yes, it's still a walking sim, but it has a lot of unique moments, sequence breaking, easter eggs or twist that most walking sims never used.
It's not amazing, it's a simple "hey that's cool" type of "parody" if you will. Like how I wanna be the guy is a parody of platformers in shitpost format but it's still an interesting game on itself.

Sometimes a thing is jsut the thing, nothing more. No harm done for making a simple "ain't it funny how we do this dumb thing?" without trying to teach the player some life lesson.
