And he will blow it.
This is Modern Sonic's last chance
>it's his last chance
sorry OP but Sonic will probably always cruise off the classics + Generations/Colors and bait people into thinking each incoming game will be good. The fact it's open world honestly has me worried if anything.
I'm literally only on Yea Forums so I can be here when SEGA gets bought by Microsoft. Since PS is already transitioning to publisher, this is the only thing left. Once that finally happens I'll be free.
It will be hilarious.
>playing as Sonic in a wide open world
I fail to see the downside
> somehow shittier than Forces
Sonic forces 2.
They will become a literal movie company.
SEGA seems confident considering how they parade it around the Summer Games Fest.
All this good news surrounding Sonic besides the games itself should hopefully make them do better
They seemed pretty confident about Forces too.
>SEGA gets bought by Microsoft
Not possible and confirmed not happening
Keep dreaming lol
>Sonic Mania trailers have SEGA Proudly Presents every
>Forces got nothing
lol no
If 06, Forces and fucking Rise of Lyric didn't kill him, then what makes you think this one will?
This. Nothing will kill the blue bastard
Not only that
The movie actually success make it back to being strong brand, and fan actually hopeful for one
You clowns have been saying "this is Sonic's last chance!" since 06 came out. Sonic games sell pretty decently no matter their quality so, at this point, sourpusses either need to move on from the franchise already or strap in and enjoy the ride.
No Chao Garden, no care
I'm hopeful on the grounds that Sega's gaming division is now their primary money maker, and they seem quite sober about it. They can't afford to fuck it up.
Last chance? According to who? The 30 something year olds who still like Sonic? Because there's tons of children and teens that still love Sonic regardless of how shit his games end up.
As in the design? Maybe. The movies are pretty much the face of Sonic now, so maybe they'll just go that way in future.
>This is Modern Sonic's last chance
Nah
>And he will blow it.
Yeah.
Damn bro, you're so wise, clearly we should all just stop asking for better since it's all pre-ordained due to the whims of the masses huh?
I don't know why people keep saying this whole Microsoft + SEGA thing. It's been swimming around the vines and rumour mills for fucking years at this point, with no indication of it being substantial in any way.
This, Sonic is perfect for open worlds.
In any sonic game, sonic has enough in-game speed to travel from weeping peninsula to the mountaintop of the giants in less than 5 minutes.
Generations and Colors are soulless dogshit and I'd sooner play Sonic and the Black Knight or 06, unironically
He's a cartoon hedgehog that runs fast, he's Sega's Mickey. Kids like him because he's a child icon, the same icon that we liked when we were kids. I don't know what else you should expect from a character like that.
Wonder how it will play. Hope Sega finally puts behind the boost and classic games and tries to make.a proper speed platformer. One that's heavily dependent on reaction speed
At worst, it will be the common fangame criticism of "it's just an open tech demo, where's the level design?" but applied to an official mainline game.
Fan mods will save it. Sega is counting on it.
I just hope it feels fun to play. I just want some solid feeling controls and good rolling physics.
This game literally looks like a "NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN" video
>last chance
he survived 06, even if this game is a 0/10 dumpster fire he will continue to survive and make games. Sonic will never, ever die or go away. Cope.
There's literally zero fucking gameplay footage revealed so far just some landscape shots and a brief pre-rendered trailer
Agreed. I remember abusing the physics and spindash in SA1 to traverse the Adventure Fields, and even back then with its small-ish world it was already plenty of fun.
As usual
Open level, sure.
If it has slopes, loop-de-loop, hills, platforms and so on, then that's great.
Not a boring wasteland filled with Ubisoft towers with an uninspired aesthetic.
>last chance
Ha!
>And he will blow it.
Sad but true. And worse, Sega will simply schmooze with the "Sonic was never good crowd!" for normie points again as they lick their wounds and continue to not understand why they're constantly outclassed by the gaijin.
Looking forward to this being bugged and broken than a Bethesda game.
>I fail to see the downside
They will 100% fuck it up
Gameplay reveal on the 9th of june
god I fucking hope it looks at least decent
I sure hope
I dont know why the fuck are they unironically not hiring western devs that makes sonic fangames to make the mechanics for them even if its just a one time thing.
Didnt nintendo hire someone back then for a 3D rendering engine? Why dont they do the same?
Is it just pride?
Frontiers will be painfully okay, depriving us of both a triumphant breakthrough and a miserable failure and making sure the game quickly fades as lasting impression fades to indifference.
It really does just look like big flat land so far. Also im getting sick of boost levels.
You guys are missing the point. OP specified "modern Sonic" for a reason, though I think he should have been more specific. Let's be clear: Nobody thinks that Sonic the Hedgehog, as a brand, is going anywhere. You'd have to be a fucking moron to think that. But now, much more than ever, Sonic is at very real risk of no longer continuing to exist as a major video game franchise (Or at least taking a very long hiatus from major video games) outside of rereleases and mobile games.
Since the 2010s, the gap between mainline Sonic Team-developed Sonic games has only gotten larger and larger, and the quality of games has only gotten worse and worse. We are now at the longest gap between mainline games since Sonic 3 & Knuckles to Sonic Adventure. But the Sonic brand is more popular than ever. For the first time in quite a while, everyone's loving Sonic... Because of everything BUT his medium of origin. People love the idea of the Sonic franchise, the world and the characters. It's how the brand has managed to survive this long. But people haven't loving the games lately. Sonic is in everyone's heads right now because of everything but the recent games.
With the massive success of the movies as well as the comics and upcoming Netflix show, Sonic can easily rely entirely on this multimedia empire without ever having to make a big, major game for at least a decade. I mean hell, it's worked out for the past half decade. You know this, I know this, and SEGA sure as fuck knows this. If Sonic Frontiers flops, don't be surprised if they push "Making big Sonic games" much lower on the brand's list of priorities. People like almost understand this, but don't see the glaringly obvious implications. Already diehard fans are starting to concede to the games taking a backseat. Whether or not you think this is a good thing is your opinion; I'm just stating what is happening.
Willing to bet if this fails, they’ll retcon everything since Sonic Adventure and just make Mania the prime canon.
You're on 50 kinds of drugs if you think they'll ever do that.
I thought there was a law against American corporations buying Japanese ones anyway.
If Sega was smart they would have hired the Mania devs full time but Nihon pride too stronk, how dareu firthy gaijin piggu makeu better Sonikku gameu than Grorious Nihon Sonikku Teamu!
Yes, it's called the FAK OFF GAIJIN law.
If a Japanese man is drowning, he would rather drown than be saved by a foreigner.
Nah, all leaks, even the ones about stockholder shit, all similarly seem to insist on a sort of "renaissance" period for Sega
They hired the comic guy to write the story, had the twitter faggot babysit the development, and announced it at fucking TGA, an event centered almost entirely around AAA Western titles yet Sega felt it an appropriate venue to properly reveal it, entirely seperate from the movie trailer and no Ben Schwartz, so you can't really say they were piggybacking on the movies
They've localized PSO2 and revived a shitton of their dormant franchises just because people wouldn't stop bitching about it. You're probably getting a pretty good game.
Sega has literally been hiring american writers for Sonic games since Colors.
Forces wasn't announced at TGA, it was announced at some bizarre Sonic-focused convention
>writers
I am so FUCKING SICK of seeing this faggots face any time I google something Sonic-related
>Localize PSO2 at the end of its life
>Fire content updates at players like a machinegun invalidating the entire experience because you had no time to actually play the game and have fun with what was there before some new update came out that immediately made everything before it pointless
>Meanwhile switch dev over to PSO2
>Launch it with about 8 hours of anything to do and trust that daily login chores will keep people coming back
>Playerbase falls off a cliff
>Run events in PSO2 OG just to keep people around
>Imagine launching a new game and then telling people to play the old one lmao
>Giant waits in between content patches
>Hardly anyone comes back for them because they hear there's only 4 hours of game before you're back to doing dailies again
Yeah good job SEGA, you're killing it.
It'll be a masterpiece by total accident
Nigger I don't play that weeb trash lmao
Neither does anyone else lmao
It'll sell worse than Forces and in four years SEGA will release Forces 2.
Yeah but they still revived
>Wonderboy
>House of the Dead
>Streets of Rage
>Panzer Dragoon
>Shenmue
>Alex fucking Kidd
>Sakura Wars
>Jet Set Radio
>Crazy Taxi
Sorry about your faggoty weaboo dead MMO but they're still based
you camt blame anyone but Sega for this games eventual failure
any publisher with a lick of common sense would have disintegrated Sonic Team after their string of failures post SA2
i just wonder how these guys keep surviving
>Sakura Wars
SEGA and other companies like them in the last decade or so, have been hiring people to fill a diversity quota, so, yeah, are you surprised the quality is going to subpar? These people don't have the talent to make a decent Sonic game, not until they shake things up and actually hire people who care about the franchise. Of course Frontiers is going to be bland, it's a given.
>If it has slopes, loop-de-loop, hills, platforms and so on, then that's great.
the game will have those but nothing will be physics based
entering a loop will basicly be like watching a cutscene or you just BOOOST through it
Good post.
Hilarious that no child living today would know what a "sonic" if not for the movies
>Shenmue
>Sakura Wars
I dunno about that.
>revived a shitton of their dormant franchises
This is true. As much as we like to shit on Sega, they've been pretty good lately, even if not all of them are published by Sega themselves. Hell, a lot of these are developed and published by other people:
>Streets of Rage
>Shin Sakura Wars
>Panzer Dragoon Remake
>House of the Dead Remake
>Virtua Fighter 5 Remake
>Monkey Ball Banana Mania
etc. etc.
It still counts as an attempted revival, final quality notwithstanding.
>Shenmue
I vaguely recall them having fuck all to do with it and it being entirely funded off the backs of loyal fans who got stiffed in the end with a shit game that was well below expectation.
I didn't back it but I did buy it in the bargin bin a few months later for $10aud, and I got the steelbook as well.
