>*unpapers you're paper mario"
it's a subtle effect but im pretty sure Mario's eyes are shifting with the camera's orbit to face the 'right' direction relative to the 2D art this is trying to replicate, so that's a nice touch.
Pretty cool for a model. But it kills the whole paper charm that the series has going for it.
Nintendo.... HIRE THIS MAN!
they do this a lot
Why can't Nintendo recapture this SOUL?
The last two chapters of PM64 are 100% pure concentrated soul
only if they give these guys a job too

That webm is extremely cursed.
Fun fact: in super paper Mario, you can get obscure lore by paying ten coins to the bartenders Carson or Garson.

NEVER EVER
So hype for that
I'm surprised not many people have capitalized off of Paper Mario's RPG formula of self-contained chapters branching off from a central hub. It kind of makes sense now why there's so many Paper Mario fan ideas for chapters.
I'm more of a fan of Grifty's lore.

A lot of games spread their lore out in NPC dialogue, item descriptions, books, and subtle environmental details. TTYD and SPM have found a much more efficient method: the lore guy.
Making games are hard, not to mention the DMCA threats (remember Epic Paper Mario?)
t. tried to make like 4 different Paper Mario fangames over my life only to give up after a few days each
More detail in that animation than 99% of Unity games.
mario if he pawn
mario is a king
>Epic Paper Mario
Man I remember that demo being great. Cool combination of SPM and TTYD mechanics.
youtu.be
Agreed
What chapter ideas do you guys have for a Paper Mario game? I think a cruise ship chapter where you go to different islands in a similar way to the Excess Express from TTYD would be neat.
mario if he foreverially delitized
a short chapter where mario just relaxes in his house for a bit the poor guy could use a break
this guy should make porn
I want a chapter where you race in paper karts around a racetrack against Bowser. Basically just straight up Paper Mario Kart.
Huh, that's actually really cool. I know I should probably hate it, but I love the effect.
I want a Paper Mario game where your partners are spirits of power-up items that are also cute girls.
Execute all coomers by firing squad
We can't use Mario enemies anymore. So so I'll use power ups.
Miyamoto
Paper mario has zero challenge
I recall long ago on this board ideas were being discussed and someone mentioned a haunted radio tower or something, always loved the idea of how that could look.
Series is dead because people complained about too much dialoige in SPM even though it had a really good story.
Based. I remember seeing some art of those partners. Definitely fulfills the harem requirement from TTYD.
Origami king is extremely soulful. The art, music, characters and world design are all incredible. Where it lacks is in the gameplay, specifically the fight system and lack of a progression system. But the actual artistry of it is great.
bump
Paper Mario if he's real
Damn, that's actually pretty impressive.
Moustafa was cool
A camping chapter where halfway through it's revealed that the campsite is haunted. The partner could be the camp counselor, with the boss being a group of Peepas that pull pranks on the campgoers.
Theme park level where the partner is an aloof spike ride attendant
I used to chill in Carson and Garson's bars for hours, hitting up the jukebox and listening to their tales. There was something very special about Super Paper Mario to me, for whatever reason.
For me, it's Club 64

Actually, I can tell you right now how that's done: Basically, Mario's face in that image (around the eyes, specifically) is inside-out. When you look at a 3D object inside out, you can only see the inside, so he put the eyes inside in such a way that they always look "correct" even if it doesn't make much sense, but because the head is inside out the eyes will never get covered by the face like they "should" if things were behaving correctly.
It's a pretty common trick. Same general idea as the outline effect, actually, just applied to something more important.
neat
Did they?
>Luigi gets a cool kart racing chapter like this in TTYD
This is why we need Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
The one thing they shoud do is drop the whole
>"DUDE WE'RE MADE OUT OF PAPER LOL"
Having a black outline automatically makes it better than the recent games so sure.
>sketch and toon shader
>cel shading
bro welcome to the year 2000.
>shader
>shading
>in that webm
guess how i know you don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about
Vid of what user posted
just say you dont know what the fuck you are talking about and then kill yourself.
Hey, retard, what is a shader doing in that webM? At most you can say it's generating the outline mesh, but given that it's fucking Blender that's probably not the case. The viewport is clearly set to flat/no shading/fullbright, whatever you want to call it. Shaders aren't doing fuck all there.
I dunno unless you've been living under a rock it's been a thing since 2000s
Actually, excuse me, the background color and different grid means it might be Maya or 3DS MAX, not Blender, but my point still stands.
Shaders literally aren't doing anything there, the impressive part is the model.
>generating the outline mesh
That's a shader
Not necessarily, no. It's entirely possible to achieve the same effect by duplicating the mesh, scaling it up, and flipping the normals inside-out. That's effectively what relatively inexpensive outline shaders do— they just generate an inverted mesh like that as needed, but you can do it manually.
Either way, there's no cel shading or any form of lighting there and the focus of the WebM is clearly more on the quality of the model.
Cool but the bottom line is it's a shader, its seems that a shader is eisier to implement than this
I unironically like this a hell of a lot better than having to find a bunch of "books" that contain at most half a page of text in order to find out what's going on. Or diaries/audio logs that contain precisely one entry and are scattered in some random place. Doesn't make any sense. Much better to have a guy, singular, who tells you the stuff.
(Granted TTYD does the book thing with the Super Luigi book series)
>Cool but the bottom line is it's a shader
Nigger, only the outline is, and only *possibly*. Slapping an outline shader on Mario's Odyssey model isn't going to have anywhere close to the same effect, the impressive part is the actual model.
Man how can you be this fucking stupid
I don't know, how are you such a braindead monkey retard?
>look at this "impressive" thing that showcase a tech that's been there for quite a while
>wait.. no I mean look at this high poly model, it's cool yeah?! yeah user??
Paper Mario or TTYD?
user, nothing about the webM indicates it's showing off any specific tech or a "high poly model", it's showing off a WELL MADE model, you absolute fucking brainlet.
When you see an oil painting do you call it shit because oil paints have been around for centuries?
