Examples of this type of game done right?
Examples of this type of game done right?
lisa is literally the only one
>hylics
>yume nikki
>space funeral
kinda feels like they're stretching it
not doubting they were inspired but there's a difference between being inspired and making it part of your game's identity
>Game has sad moments
>This means it's about depression
I don't even get why shitton of these games get labeled as Earthbound inspired, is any rpg with party members and unusual non-fantasy/sci-fi setting inspired by Earthbound?
there isnt because anything about "muh deeper meaning" over anything else is fucking trash
Ah, yes, my favourite Earthbound-inspired RPG, Yume Nikki.
Because many people who parrot the label haven't actually played Earthbound. Just like its fans.
>a shitton of metroidvania games are released every year
>a shitton of roguelike/roguelite games are released every year
>a shitton of card games are released every year
>barely any memes about it
>1 indie Earthbound-like rpg is released every year
>"DAE INDIE RPGS ARE ALL THE SAME?"
Can someone explain this to me?
i have not played earthbound and probably never will. all these games that people compare to it seem incredibly gay. spectacularly gay. earthbound probably isnt so idk what earthbound inspired means except "1 step above RPG maker"
>none of these come with scratch n sniff stickers
fucking posers.
>playing a game for le quirky story
It's called reading a book
None of those games were inspired by Earthbound.
Earthbound inspired usually translates to
>quirky rpg with weird and unusual things
A lot of them don't seem too bad, but it seems to have become more of a thing after Undertale I think. Actual inspiration goes pretty far back to stuff like Yume Nikki.
Yes.
>Lucus far away from all the cool action
Kek
Yes.
Pretty sure most fans have already used emulators long before Nintendo rerelease it
>but it seems to have become more of a thing after Undertale I think.
Almost all "Earthbound-inspired RPGs" that are often mentioned were either released before Undertale, or started their development before Undertale.
is that Niko in the bottom right?
He’s running towards them. Just like the original Doom cover art.
It's a meaningless label, the only real connection with earthbound these games have is all the creators said they where inspired into game design because of earthbound and other unique games.
i know this started as a meme but all these games have more in common with YIIK than earthbound. no that is not a good thing
theres not a a single AAA rpg game that made me actually laugh. their humor sucks. indie games are more current and actually tries to have bits that work. if thats what Quirky means then they succeed heavily in that regard
Really? Good to know, I don't usually look into stuff like that and haven't played most of them. It's certainly not a new thing though, also Earthbound is just a good game.
MOTHER 1, OFF, and Lisa
Yume Nikki is different stuff
South Park: The Stick of Truth. A game that literally everyone who plays videogames should experience.
Space Funeral was stated to have been largely inspired by the video games Bat Castle and Monster Party.
Hylics was inspired by Yume Nikki.
How.
Yeah. For example, in OP's pic:
-LISA, Yume Nikki, Space Funeral, Oneshot and Hylics were released before Undertale
-Omori (2014) and YIIK (2013) started their development before Undertale's release.
These are all definitely earthbound inspired, props to OP, devs need to stop using this format
Omori was inspired by Earthbound, but it was also inspired by Yume Nikki and a little bit of .flow
Yume Nikki isn’t inspired by Earthbound. It isn’t even an RPG.
I don't care
because they're shit
that game is like the polar opposite of undertale
mainly because it actually has good gameplay
How.
Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass
yiik literally took inspiration from someone's suicide
You cared enough to reply.
No, I mean how are the other games shit.
because they have large amounts of gay energy flowing through them, i believe they were programmed in a gay language
Takes one to know one.
>because they have large amounts of gay energy flowing through them, i believe they were programmed in a gay language
>gay language
This made me laugh harder than it should've.
What’s wrong with that?
Retards don't pay attention to indie games and only focus on the most popular games, and assume this is the state of the indie gaming scene, as well as this There isn't even a Steam tag for these games to begin with, so it's hard to find those "Earthbound-likes" unless you go out of your way and find them by yourself.
I just really really wanted you to know that I don't care and I'm gonna keep calling it "Earthbound Inspired" because it is.
These are literally just
>*holds up spork*: The Game
How?
>devs need to stop using this format
The same can be said about platformers and any other game genre
DOOM!!!
because all of the main characters hold up a spork at least once in their games. it doesnt happen in hylics but there's a chance the characters say "penguin of d00m"
>Says he doesn't care
>Still keeps replying
Ok retard
>I'm gonna keep calling it "Earthbound Inspired" because it is.
Nah they're not and you know it
I still fucking love Yiik
>suicide
The fact that these games pride themselves in being “quirky” and “weird”
I don't really care about platformers because those are for little babies and my opinion remains the same and basically your image is cherrypicking because there's a lot more earthbound clones than that buddy
OFF isn’t inspired by Earthbound. It was inspired by Killer7.
Played OFF, but I don't get how it's an Earthbound clone at all. The combat is nothing like Earthbound and the puzzles are more like Myst but piss easy. Mortis Ghost created it when he was in Highschool and admitted to never playing Earthbound until a year late after he released the game in 2007.
Are you really gonna sit here and call me retard because you weren't able to change my viewpoint? Maybe you should take a look in the mirror you might not like what you see
By Killer7 and Paranoia Agent
Is it worth looking into? I remember when the game was getting lots of hate, but a lot of the criticism seemed extremely petty and out of proportion to how the game looks, emphasis on looks.
What bothers me about the Elisa Lam shit is it really is not that abnormal for artists to be inspired by shit IRL. It also seems like people complain about the character being annoying or insufferable when it seems like that's how he's supposed to come off as.
It's not, but its still a pretty good game
It just fell for the meme of earthbound inspired
OFF isn't even inspired by Earthbound, the dev said that he didn't play Earthbound before making OFF.
It's a good story with bland gameplay that falls apart at late levels. Good art and music.
People don't understand the story because they don't want to engage with it beyond surface level.
>because there's a lot more earthbound clones than that buddy
Ok, if there are that many, then where is the Steam tag for that supposed "genre"? There is Metroidvania and Souls-like games, but there is no tag for Earthbound inspired games on Steam
They hated user because he told the truth
There are more dark souls(8) games than earthbound inspired games
Thini about it for a sec
you might be onto something there, you should email valve with your findings *SNORT*
All the characters are annoying, insufferable, or underdeveloped. The combat is really bad. Alex goes on uninterrupted rants for a sickening amount of time. And there’s multiple instances of plagiarism. Hopefully, the new update will fix some of this, but I’m not holding my breath.
Any game described as "quirky", especially in reference to be inspired by Earthbound, is missing the goddamn point. No wonder most of those games are shit.
but there is a tag for LGBT+
>Are you really gonna sit here and call me retard because you weren't able to change my viewpoint?
No, I'm calling you a retard because you are wrong. I don't care about your retarded viewpoint, I'm only here making fun of you saying retarded shit.
What is OneShot doing there? It isn’t even an RPG.
Shut up, Andrew. Your music is shit.
Don't listen to the YIIK shill, YIIK deserves every criticism it gets. The only good things about YIIK are some of the musics. The art is also good, sometimes.
Same for Yume Nikki.
Is Hylic good? Shit just look so weird to me I never tried it.
stop fucking encouraging the poor guy to update his shit game. it was shit, learn and move on. this endless George Lucas behavior is embarrassing, nobody wants to see the remix of lemonade llama
Now you're gonna post a weeaboo pic and keep trying to change people's minds? Dude, you are without a doubt, cringe. In my mind and in the minds of my fellow anons, you are cringe dude. This is the hill you wanna die on? That some dumb indie game isn't inspired by earthbound released in 1999? Wow you are really something else
