That simply isnt true. Milicent is great example of a good ending for the character. She decides to live as her self rather then be a pawn for a cult. While it isn't a traditional happy ending it was a happy ending for her none the less and she wouldn't have any other way.

I can't think of a single npc with a happy ending in the first dark souls game

It wasn't always that bad. Solaire got a happy ending in DS1 and the weird dwarf from DS2 survives. It's really only ER (and maybe DS3 I can't recall) where everyone dies for cheap edgy drama.

It's because tonally Elden Ring is actually a lot brighter than Dark Souls. In Dark Souls the world feels like a lost cause by the time you show up. But in Elden Ring it still feels like there's hope for things to improve.

Miyazaki treats Berserk like how George treats LOTR. They THINK they get it, but even surface level midwits understand either IP better than they do. They're INSPIRED by it but they really aren't because the references and callbacks are not only tired but hamfisted. It actually makes sense why both would team up, their clinical understanding of the media they consume could give Yea Forums a run for its money.
