So turns out I missed the reservation for my steam deck. It was yesterday, but I was too busy with other things in life to have noticed.

So, for those who bought it, was it worth it at all? Because if I’m being honest here, I feel indifferent about it. Why waste money on a handheld when I my desktop is better? I own the PS5, the Series X, and the Switch OLED. The idea of PC games on the go sounds appealing, but most of my library wasn’t even compatible with the Deck.

I feel like this was a good thing, and would’ve been an impulse purchase that I would’ve regretted. But for those who own it, is it really worth it?

fyi you can still message steam support and they might give you a second chance

The fact that you even have to do this is a level of bullshit unparalleled. And people defend this shit so they can pretend they're better than tendies

I mean, I could? But I don’t know if I really want this thing anymore. I feel like if I bought it, it would be to say “I have the steam deck” and all that. But I don’t really see myself playing games on this.

Maybe if I ended up going to grad school, but that’s not happening. I just don’t see why I should waste around 700 dollars when the options I have are significantly better. PS5, Series X, better desktop, Switch OLED.

Steam deck is kind of a downgrade. Screen is kinda laughable. Battery life is awful. Ergonomics? Might be okay because I have big hands, but it still doesn’t look incredible.

Considering that you bought and own not only a ps5 but also an Xbox, a system made completely redundant by your pc I'd say its worth it because actually playing games isn't relevant to you.

In all seriousness, if you own a Switch and don't see the appeal of having access to more titles at higher framerates and settings without needing to repurchase them then sure, don't get it I guess? It isn't for you and I imagine doubledipping is the norm for you anyway.

I'm an emulation enthusiast so this is for me.

Ok.

It's for Linux users and people looking to upgrade their old gaming laptop. If you want to game on the couch, use any fucking streaming solution instead. There are many good lower spec handhelds if you just want to emulate some games on the go.

Same bro

As the other user said just send a support ticket to Valve and they'll probably let you put in your order

As for the value of it, I'd say it's a damned good piece of hardware (and software on the SteamOS side). If you use your Switch for indies a lot of the time you can easily just start getting them for the Deck and it'll probably be a lot cheaper in the long-run too. Just this morning I went out on my front porch and played some Slay the Spire which was pretty nice

In what world would any company keep your reservation slot open if you didn't respond to it? They need to move their limited units to whoever is actually going to buy them, and either just holding units in reserve for people who haven't responded in a week or having the potential for more than expected numbers of people saying they want their Deck now sometime in the future would fuck with the production and delivery schedule

>Screen is kinda laughable.
On par with the competition
>Battery life is awful
Better than the competition. It runs Doom Eternal at the same battery life as the Switch with 2x the graphical fidelity.

Its way better than your Switch to say the least.

Ok.

>If you want to game on the couch
Why limit yourself to just the couch?

>Screen is kinda laughable.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the screen, it's fine
>Battery life is awful.
If you're playing AAA games yeah the battery life isn't the best, but I never noticed when I'm using it as an emulation and indie machine
>Ergonomics? Might be okay because I have big hands, but it still doesn’t look incredible.
The ergonomics are one of the best parts of the Deck. It's weird you'd be concerned about ergonomics when you already use a Switch which has some of the worst handheld ergonomics I've ever experienced

Don't worry ue5 will make it a paper weight too bad good games are never again coming back

Why limit yourself to a desk chair?

I've been enjoying it more than I expected. There are games in my library, or that I have decided to pick up since I bought the deck, that I probably wouldn't have bothered sitting (or lying) down to play. It reminds me a bit of the Fold 2. It's an awesome piece of tech that I love using but I wouldn't recommend it to the average person. Likewise I can't say I would go out of my way to shill the deck to an average person on Yea Forums who more than likely has a gaming PC already and is a NEET who isn't mobile enough to justify gaming on the go anyway.

i love it.

By the time there are actual UE5 games worth playing in the single digits the Deck 2 will be out to play them.

I kind of want one just to play PS2 games in bed. At the same time I feel it might be better to just get a new graphics card.

have you ever heard of valve time?

Do all those emulators work well?

Sure but since future games are trash why care?

yesterday i played some sims bustin out on it and it was pretty fucoing comfy.
from what i heard not EVERY ps3 and switch game is going to reach full speed, but many can.
the fan sounds like a fucking tractor with rpcs3 though lol, weird considering that it was barely a whisper with elden ring

No

>he think valve will actually support steam deck let alone produce another version just like Index, Steam Controller, and Steam Box.

user, I…

PS2 generation and below should work without any problems, emulators are developed for Linux first and then ported to Windows. PS3/X360 seen spotty. Switch obviously works, but some games are not perfect.

how far into your reservation date did it take for you to get a hit?

I've had mine for two months and I love it. The value for me is a lot like what said. It's gotten me to play a few games in my Steam library that I haven't touched and I've had a great time with them. I haven't really travelled with it but just being able to play a game on my PC, swap to the deck to sit on a couch and watch something while playing it and then go back to my PC with the same game has been great.

I'm getting a lot of cope from your post user and that's fine. Just feels like this isn't really about the deck and you're just depressed about video games. For me the hobby isn't about owning all the systems, it's about the games I play and you haven't talked about any video games.

they intended to make a V2 SC but scuf sued them so its delayed
the link is not an app

>just beg, user and they might still let you buy one!
I hate what this fucking board has become

Three days

>Just feels like this isn't really about the deck and you're just depressed about video games
Not him but yah I don't like open world and soul's meme and I feel gaming has nothing left for me I'm super depressed

I get what you're getting at. But, I think this one will be different. I dunno why.

Is there any like backup battery banks you can use with it? Might be nice to take on a trip if there are battery banks where you can plug it in and have like an additional two or three charges with you.

It's for people who like me whose PC died now I want a new one but don't want to spend $1500 on an emulation machine so I'm getting the deck instead.

look up the voltage and amperage

I genuinely pity anyone who is hard-up enough to try and use this as a desktop.

?
So far they addressed the stick drift software issue, battery life, fan noise, lack of a lock screen, bugs....
That just makes the current Deck an even better investment.

>stick drift software issue
I like how you have to lie right off the bat and assert that the stick drift is a software issue even though it's still happening. Fuck off, shill.

does anyone have an updated guide to dualboot windows from an sd card?

Mine came a few hours before expected, so you might get lucky too.
Setup takes about 30 minutes. Aperture Desk Job is good to play at some point cause it'll give you an idea of what the system can do.
I'd think about something fun you'd like to play before that though. Something small that you can install quickly and get a feel for it. For me it was Noita and Demon's Tilt. Just something quick and simple to jump into and then you can install something bigger.

It's genuinely a better option for that task than anything in its price range

the only thing I fear is the joystick drifting possibility.

I didn't even use my PC as a desktop. I'd probably just use my deck to watch YouTube at the most. Even then the deck has great hardware, it can do anything you want outside of rendering 4k videos.

No, it's fucking terrible for that task, unless you only use your desktop for like 2 hours a day. Imagine leaving this thing on and plugged in for longer than that every day. Good god, what a mess.

Even if it happens you can get a repair piece from them. They'd rather you didn't open it for dumbass protection but they won't stop you from opening it.

>I didn't even use my PC as a desktop
?
>Even then the deck has great hardware, it can do anything you want outside of rendering 4k videos.
why are you using marketing speak?

>steammachines where a different thing
Yep, and the whole reason Valve is acting as their own OEM is that Microsoft managed to pressure the companies Valve was working with into dropping the Steam Machines.
Dell for instance was having to pay Microsoft 'patent licenses' on every Steam Machine they sold that were more expensive that a Windows license.
That's part of why those systems were to expensive compared to the Windows versions of the same hardware.

Everything about the Steam Deck is designed to prevent Microsoft from shutting it down with pressure campaigns or legal action through sock puppets.

>It's a bad PC because... It is!!!
Wow. Brilliant argument. My PC stays plugged in too retard. At least this can be unplugged.

I'm not actually seeing any reasons it would be bad for that

You've got brain rot if you think "rendering 4K videos" is marketing wank

>?
My PC was mainly an emulation/Yea Forums machine. Steam deck can do those too.

>why are you using marketing speak?
Why are you seething over an objectively good system?

i'm starting to get worried... last tracking update said it was in a city that's still an 8 hour drive away...

i got it mostly for FFXIV but thats gonna take hours to install so i'll might start with FFVpr. also want to see how well the controls work with Civ6

It literally was a software issue, autist. Everyone who had it had it fixed with the update that came out like a week later. Even if you were one of the only people who have faulty stick hardware, the Deck is the only umpc with the sticks not soldered onto the board and replacement parts coming. Move onto new material doomtranny.

It's a tiny form factor with a small battery. When left plugged in for any amount of time, especially when on, these batteries bloat to fuck. It will get hot if left on and used as a desktop after a few months, and when a small form factor gets hot, with the lack of cooling solutions that a desktop has, it's a mess.

Like, why the fuck do you think desktops have proper-sized fans, and bigger cases and heavy-duty power supplies? because something you leave on as a desktop is NEEDS those things. If you've ever used a nucbox, you'll know what I mean, but let's be honest. You don't even know what that IS

Pretty common sentiment on Yea Forums. I personally haven't experienced it in years but I think it's because I find a balance between old and new games, and sometimes I'll just leave Yea Forums for a while if I'm not playing the latest game.
For me it's about rediscovering your love for games, if you've ever actually had it that is. I got that spark of joy again playing Dragon Quest V years ago despite it being an older game it really resonated with me and lead me to playing Dragon Quest XI when it came out.
There are good things in gaming, you just need to know where to look and stay true to your own personal journey and what you like regardless of trends.

Attached: 1566969220577.jpg (1835x1427, 380.4K)

people are still reporting this issue, you massive fanny

>and would’ve been an impulse purchase that I would’ve regretted
Just basic brand consumerism.
Think about it. For what would you actually use the deck?
Emulation? How much games would you unironically play? And all other cheaper handhelds can allready run emulation.
Pc indie for handheld? All good noteworthy indie games are multiplat and playable in the better version on a vita
AAA games? Really? You unrionically want to play modern warfare on a handheld?

This is all irrelevant because I don't even need a desktop. I use my phone for Yea Forums and all things internet related. I just want a deck to play video games comfy on my couch or on the go. Being able to use it as a PC is just another cool feature, not the reason I'm getting it.

I bought Obscure 1 and 2 but can't manage to make the first work

>Google it
>Links are all from February/early March, even with Leddit
>this is literally a result

KEK

I go on road trips or plane rides a lot to visit family. It'll be nice being able to bring this. The first game I'll play will probably be Chrono Cross for PS1 after seeing that abysmal remaster.

there's options to increase the deadzone.

are you retarded?
you reserve the product -> get a 3 day window to buy it -> you don't do it
what else should happen? they wouldn't even need to give second chances

have you tried proton-ge?

your image made me cum a little
truly the giant Vita I've always dreamed of

They should give people like a heads up weeks in advance

>outside of rendering 4k videos.
what stops you from using davinci for that?
i know some people have sold their souls to adobe, but its more that possible on steamOS.

You can also play chrono cross on a 70$ psvita, which is not only more portable but a mor ecomfortable handheld due to the size with OLED screen.
Why need a 500$ machine for that?
