I watched until Kalos but Alola alienated me with the wonky art style and slice of life tone, Kalos was probably the best season for the anime, which is ironic given how flat the X and Y games fell, because it actually used the game's plot points to craft legitimate conflict even if it wasn't a 1:1 translation of the game's plot, and in many respects it was better given the multiple original plot threads like the increasing pressure on Clemont to recclaim the gym for his battle with Ash, Bonnie's relationship with Zygarde, Serena deciding between blindly following Ash or pursuing her own passions and Alain inadvertedly helping Team Flare genocide half of Lumiose and cheating his way to the top of the League only to end up disgraced anyway.
All of this was a huge step up from the previous seasons' hypersimplistic formula, but it was sadly short-lived because the sudden (And also short-lived) boom in popularity of shit like Yokai Watch inspired the studio to take the show in a far less intense direction, which endures to this day with Journeys only being mildly more interesting; it's also fairly obvious that whoever is directing the anime now has a weird grudge against Kalos given how little attention it is given compared to the other regions (On top of the excess genwunner pandering), Serena in particular was done really dirty being forced to waste her very limited screentime babysitting that retard Koharu and sharing the spotlight with Lisia (Another gen 6 character who is also getting shafted) while Ash was stuck in a pointless B-plot, meanwhile that Mary Sue cunt Dawn gets an entire arc and Goh is essentially the anti-Ash, and through him the anime is now glorifying an attitude it used to dennounce with characters like early Gary and Paul who just caught tons of pokemon only to end up benching the majority of them permanently.
