A bunch of factors led to Crash/Spyro being put on ice, primarily Activision's lawsuits/buyout and restructuring everything around CoD Warzone and Kotick's dick (again). Had Crash 4 underperforming been the entire deal it would've just sent Toys4Bob back into some Skylanders-tier shit projects, not killed a proven 10-million-sales-per-game IP.
This. They made speedruns awful by making this spin shit necessary. They made 100% runs awful because they are WAY WAY WAYYYY too repetitive and hard to accomplish. In that case all you want to do is just a normal campaign run through, which is fun, but last s for like 20 minutes.

Crash 4 has plats but also purple relics which are the dev's best times and those are particularly hard. There aren't running shoes, instead theres a speed spin you get where you have to push the spin button in a rhythm to have a good speed.

There is 0 fucking reason to play a Crash game if not for completition: there is no point in smashing crates if you don't want to complete it since:

It's not bad but at the same time, it's underwhelming. It's a meh/5
-Absolutely horrible to fully complete. The box placement alone is enough to hate yourself.
-The levels are way too long. It doesn't help that each stage has a no point of return segments with a checkpoint that you tend to break accidentally.
-I appreciate the boss fights to be more fleshed out as compared to the previous games but I don't like how it's structured. Even without the checkpoints, the boss fights doesn't feel quite right especially with the Tropys. I don't know the word to be exact but it doesn't have that feeling you get when you fight the boss in the previous games. I think the length has something to do with it.
-It's cool we get the double jump from the start and I'm absolutely fine with no power-ups after bosses but I can't dig the sliding. It doesn't feel smooth at all.
-I like how you can use other characters with their own abilities. I don't like how you use Crash halfway through.
-The level design feels off. It aims to be complex but it doesn't feel right for Crash's gameplay in some parts.
-The devs tries to go crazy with the core gameplay and I can appreciate it but they don't understand what makes a Crash game a Crash game.
-The N.Verted mode is a complete waste of time for everyone involved. Who the fuck made it and who gave it a thumbs up?
-The choice of worlds is generally poor. It's Warped but shit and not coherent with the plot of alternate worlds.
-The enemy design is a shitfest. It's Spyro reignited's shit design but even more out of place and crap.
-The music is completely forgettable. Without counting the main menu and level select stage, can you remember the music of each stages?
It has some cool stuff like different characters, method of getting colored gems, and the different masks (even though they're borderline too gimmicky) but overall, the game fails to impress me unlike the original trilogy. It fails to hook me in the long term.
It's horrendous. The characters are terrible, Tawna looks like a tranny, the environments and color palette make me wanna vommit. The garbage art style fucks with the depth perception so hard they had to give you the option to use a yellow circle to determine where you'll land. That's how bad they fucked up the game.

Looks like some mentally ill tranny shit over the screen. A cartoon has clearly defined assets, the characters and objects have that black line around them, each asset pops off the screen and you clearly distinguish the separate entities from one another. Crash 4 does not accomplish that, everything part of the scenery, whether in the background and out of reach or obstacles and enemies just blend together.

The new character levels shouldve been fully fleshed out instead of ending with the crash segment. Feels like they werent exactly confident in the design of the other characters. The only one I don't like playing as is Tawna but thats just cause her rope sucks.
I feel the level design is pretty good. It feels great being able to run through a level with ease. it has a natural flow to it that honestly feels like the 2d sonic games.
N verted shouldve counted to 200%. And the upside down gems shouldve been crystals.
I'm playing through it again and I've still got some songs stuck in my head. I'm taking it much more slowly though. The space level themes are really good and the ways the masks interact with the music is a great touch.
I appreciate though that you were able to vocalize why you feel the way you do about the game though. :)
