The game is actually pretty good. Exploration, combat, graphics and music are all top tier. It's just kept down by lackluster dialogue and the gatcha mechanics. If it was a single player game with a set release, Yea Forums would be calling it the best anime game ever made. You could say games like Overwatch and League of Legends is the western equivalent. No, it's not gatcha. But it still made an ungodly sum of money and was far more popular than traditional games.
And as much as I hate League of Legends, it's single pay system is way better than gatcha. I might have actually bought a couple things in Genshin if they were a set pay system. But I also didn't need to buy anything. The base game already gave me 12+ characters. And 4 of the 5 characters I wanted.
