>game is combat heavy
>game is also long as absolute fuck
Nioh 2?
>game is entirely indifferent to how the player feels
>gigantic options menus for shit that barely even matters to most people
IM GONNA COOM
>Each character in the party gets their own theme that plays when they go sicko mode
>The final boss theme incorporates each of them
>Final boss requires un-learning the habits/strategies you've picked up throughout the game
>final level/boss/technique is named after the title of the game
>"Thanks to..." and proceeds to list a bunch of names
>"and you, for playing the game"
>it was the studio's last game before they got swallowed up and disbanded
Senran Kagura surprisingly knows how to end games
>secret final boss is just your every day punch up between the protagonist and her rival
>no edge, no drama
>just the two of them constantly fighting and pushing each other to reach new heights
>it's the longest, hardest boss fight in thr game
>no gimmicks, rival does exactly the same stuff they could do when you control them
You can even choose who you play as if you want
>because it doesn't matter who wins
>it's about striving for your best, together
Rival shit is always the hypest shit to me, I love it
>Sequel begins with a scene from the previous game from another character’s perspective
Bonus points if it’s the villain’s perspective
name a game that did all of those
>The Church was the good guys all along.
Captcha: G0DSS
You go to the moon in Killer is Dead and FF4 for the final area. The original XCOM has you going to Mars to take the fight to them which was also super dope.
>Boss uses the same special ability/gimmick you do
>people you helped throughout the game show up to help fight the final boss
>music starts in cutscene and continues as the fight begins
>lyrics kick in and I get those physical chills
>important revelation happens and feel the same thing
Why has no game done something like this but executed like the counterpoint in the last movement of Mozart's Jupiter symphony? Instant kino.
>game gets creepy out of nowhere
Love it
Anyone playing this? It's pretty okay
Horror in non-horror games is the best.
>enemies can fight each other
>gigantic monstrosity as a set piece in the background of the level
>turns out to be the boss
>protagonist is a war veteran pitted against zoo;mers who think they can take him on
Recommendations?
>final boss is as equally skilled as you are
>can even taunt on you
Unironically Fallout 4
>Early hopeless fight near the beginning of the game
>Late game fight takes place in the same area from the beggining of the game
>But now you can win
A Hat in Time is a cutesy little game and then you get to Vanessa's mansion and it turns into a spooky game for 30 minutes
fallout games. though fallout 1 and 2 always have a creepy atmosphere to them, the others can change on a dime. going from the strip in new vegas to some locations can be kinda spooky
>You can win the first battle for an alternate cutscene
>Kill final boss
>He activates phase 2 and btfo's your party
>little cutscene where all the friends you made along the way cheer you on
>party gets a full heal and can now damage the boss
>Final boss battle truly begins, alongside the game's title theme
>first boss *is* the final boss
Cruis'n world
>can kill meta geared fags with superior tactics even with garbage weapons
>get a cheevo/trophy for doing something for the lulz
Not a cheevfag but those are the only good ones.
>you get to fight the same boss later
>boss battle takes place on the moon
>Dvorak's New World Symphony plays

> That image
Welp, time to fap again
>300 hours in MS Paint
>you can see other levels in the background of the level you're in
a small detail but it means they cared about making the game feel like a full world.
Vampire: the masquerade
>Movement upgrades
>Grappling hooks
>Regenerating ammo
>Late-game segment where you're given a huge power-up
>Unlockable skins, cheats, etc
>Gameplay mode that's pure combat
>20+ minute cutscene before the final fight
>every plot twist dropped at once
>it all makes sense now
>you reflect what you have done along the journey
>level ups restore full health/mana/stam
Especially when you can trick them into it.
Black Souls constantly increases in creepiness and even has a full-on horror section in BS2
>character betrays you
>boss fight uses an intense metal remix of their theme
>Superliminal
>Horror themed segment
>You see a sign through a distant doorway saying "DIE DIE DIE"
>Get closer
>It's just a bunch of boxes of diet soda
>Throughout the entire game you hear a music box version of the theme
>Get the orchestra version against the final boss
>Said final boss is a dude in suit just like you who has the same moveset you have
Killer is Dead's finale is mega kino
>game is good
name 1
Killer is Dead, if my memory serves me right.
>mysterious unbeatable reoccurring boss villain has a menacing theme

>>Movement upgrades
I love this stuff so much. Movement has always been my favourite part of video games, and I love it when you get an upgrade that makes you reassess the level geometry.
>find an upgrade that lets you run up smooth vertical walls
>suddenly every wall in the game is a potential opportunity for secrets/progress/mucking around
That sort of thing is porn to me.
>Final boss has your weapon and moveset
>The last level takes place in the same location as the first level
>you can stay in Earth and endure the alien invasion as much as you can
>or you can go to Mars and put a stop to it, fucking their shit up on a do-or-die, last mission
Always hypes me up when you make a one way trip to save humanity, like Bruce Willis in Armaggedon.
>Music intensifies with each accomplishment
>Goes from quiet and subtle to loud and bombastic
I'm not sure what games other then the Arkham series does something like this but they do it so damn well I don't think I need much more.

>nothing in the trailer shows anything past 50% of the game
Asura's Wrath too.
its honestly my favorite work by suda51. nmh2 comes close though.
>Who gets to go first?
>How about...me.
kino
The only problem is when you start a new file and feel like a geriatric slowly lumbering around, unable to do anything fun yet.
>status ailments and effects essential for taking down bosses
Infamous Second Son isn't amazing but its really good about this sort of thing. Your character can copy powers which is how getting new movesets works, his second power lets you run up walls and his third power gives you a really good glide ability that can be used twice per jump.
>all the blood spatters
>walk up to a bunch of red paint cans
That whole section was pretty fun. It was a short game, but I had a lot of fun with it. Wish there were a few ways to break things or beat puzzles in different ways though
Got any recommendations for games that do this? Just finished Metal Gear Rising for the first time and loved it
It might be a minority opinion, but that doesn't bother me either. I like starting a new file and having to deal with actual paths instead of just flying through the areas, because then you can admire the design from several layers.
Play the mainline Metal Gear Solid games
