Nioh 2 Thread

The amount of weapon and skill options this game has is overwhelming. What were your favorites when you played?

Toonfer

This game really wears down on you. Got to the second area and did all the quests and side quests of the first and second area and I’m so burnt the fuck out

Don't do all of the sidequests, I'd say just do anything related to the blacksmith or Okuni, as well as the duels since those get you new guardian spirits.

axe
high stance
heavy attacks
lifesteal talisman
i don't know how to parry, flux, or whatever and it doesn't seem to matter

dual sword because it is easy to use.
Some weapons has a few of very OP skills but other skills are bad, these weapons are friendly to new players because you can just spam the same skill. For example, 2 sword, axe, Odachi

Switchglaive and then Splitstaff when it was added.

1kat for sure. It didn't have long combos built into it by default, so to make fluid combos you had to be good at combining skills and pulsing

2kat + 1kat
I actually wish you could just use single set of 2kat and be able to switch between 2kat and 1kat movesets by simply drawing and sheathing second sword, like you know, in Dark Souls 3.
Wearing 3 swords on you is not very samurai-ish, and if you just wear 2k at, the offhand one is always holstered on the right side, which samurai never did.
It's a weird thing, that in game so autistically detailed and nuances as Nioh 2, you can't just wear basic daisho set properly.

You can actually go with it into end game, but you need massive damage negation and health pool.
It's buildable.

depends on the person. for both nioh titles I've played them as each DLC dropped and I make a point for 100% clearing every single region before moving on adn clearning each difficulty before moving on.The games singleplayer mostly, there no point in ever player easier difficulties once you move on and once you reach the endgame that's kinda it. It comes a point where anything that's not the max level depths is too easy and even the depths are more like a gear check than anything else.

I started using the axe for this game, having only used swords in Nioh 1. Fucking smashing the shit out of goddamn everything.

Used every weapon and leveled their proficiency equally. Also used ninjutsu and onmyo esp buffs and debuffs. Gotta learn every weapon for max variety and fun.

I pretty much like all of them except the chain&sickle. Just a weird weapon and feels strangely slow.

Are there any stat caps? Right now I got about 30 heart for my 1h Katana and I forget how much for Stamina (or whatever the axe stat is.) I also put a few in constitution for life but I wonder if there's any point in really spreading stuff around if I'm just gonna fall back to one weapon.

I think 200 is the hard cap, but you can go above after reaching level 750 with what-was-it-called system where you add +0.5 to desired end-stat.
Basically level your main stat up the ass.

I learned the other day that Fists's Defensive Drop II/Sunrise attack has a dash version to it if you press forward while you execute it.

That is a lot. Well good to know then.

it's fine to spread stats equally if you want, there's lots of respecs and the caps are very high

Axechad in both games, also enjoyed Switchglaive in 2

switchglaive... so fun

Game is scaled in a way, that as long as you keep pushing forward your leveling doesn't stop.
I hit 750 long before finishing depths.

meant for

I'm still comparatively early on a regular new game so I'm a ways off from that but the advice does take my mind off worrying about what I'm doing.

I've used every weapon and the axe is the only one I didn't really end up liking, the move set felt really limited in variety compared to the other weapons. Though overall I felt like they did an amazing job balancing the weapons, I haven't found anything extremely overpowered or useless.

why is nioh the only game that allows me to go this cool with a big katana

I stumbled into my current build (Versatility + Empowered Onmyo with familiars) almost completely blind despite it being a meta-ish build and it's fucking insane, it's like I'm playing a completely different game. Shredding through underworld floors like they're nothing now, I don't remember the last time I felt this powerful in a game.

>don't even think about using axe
>fight that one fat fuck in red armor
>he does some batshit moves, that you of course can do too
Almost made me want to commit

The axe absolutely murders ki plus crazy damage. Extremely powerful, I'd say the most powerful weapon in the game.

>Okuni

based

Switchglaive with constant morph attacks and non-stop aggression. Also trying to stop myself from using cyclone too much because god damn is that skill nice.

Just hit Dream of the Wise using switchglaive since what I really like is onmyo. Feeling overwhelmed with my options though. Can't decide if I want to stick to shots, buffs/debuffs, familiars, etc. Or I could always just say screw it and return to using tonfas

You all wear the cool wide hats right?

Ive been building around using my hatchets with shirohami, doing poison and burn buildup with 7pc Susanoo and 4pc of Kagutsuchi. My build is nowhere near done and I still dont even have an ethereal rifle with a grace I like. I was thinking i should return to the Axe, but as a secondary weapon to capitalize on melee damage vs poision, scorched, etc after my hatchets have gotten the enemies ready. Ive been using lightning familiars and the arcana that adds corruption on my shibata katsuie spin. The build has been getting me through the underworld fine but maybe I should add the axe to try and shred as my secondary, any thoughts on this idea?

Sword Of Meditation looks cool as hell but I feel like it might not be super useful.

single katana
Accept no subsittutes.

Rocking fists in high stance. Can't find a complementary secondary tho. Not big of the oda but I kinda like the axe.

How's the gear grind in new game+ cycles? First playthrough I've just been using whatever random equipment I happen to pick up, but I'm guessing I won't be able to continue doing that?

axe, press triangle

I feel like I should probably be smithing more than I am.

i have this but still haven't played it. :^)

That's not very bushido of you.

Yeah you'll need to consider sets, scaling, specific passives, keep an eye on transferables and so on and so forth.
Like you see this shitty helm with transferable +32 health? You have no fucking idea how much you will want it for your depths dual grace set in 200 hours.
Fucking hoard it.

I really don't like how everything has way more health than in Nioh 1, and how a bunch of the bosses basically force passive play. Maybe I'm just mis-remembering, but I recall boss fights being much more "ebb and flow" and much less "chaotic nightmare" or "wait around for opening" in the first game.

feathers
fuck you, i beat the game

Eh? Nioh 2 is more aggressive and faster than the first 1. And bosses die just as quick, if not quicker, especially since you can crit them more than once here.
You're doing something wrong

Nioh 2 really wants you take advantage of the new Yokai counter mechanic, it makes big enemies go down way faster.

>and how a bunch of the bosses basically force passive play
Lmao

>bosses die just as quick
>Enenra when you first fight him
>Yatsu when you first fight him
>Kamaitachi when you first fight him
>In fact basically every Yokai for the first 3 areas when you first fight them
Haha no though, every one of those is minimum 5 minutes of waiting around poking because 2 gimps you on DPS early on way worse than 1 does. Don't even get me started on some of the ranging bullshit the human bosses do. If you cut 30% HP from everything and gave them 20% more damage, the game would be far better.

POKE EM

>when you first fight him
When you first fight bosses on your first cycle it's EASY AS FUCK to zero their purple bar with counters and just spam crit attacks on them.
I don't wanna git gud you, but learn basic fucking mechanics.

i'm interested in nioh 2. but i don't like starting on sequels. How's nioh 1?

Attached: fuckyou.png (976x850, 492.31K)

>EASY AS FUCK to zero their purple bar with counters
A fucking feral counter takes away like 10% maximum on the yokai bosses, I have no idea what the fuck you're on about.

hatchetchad reporting in

>Enenra
>Kamaitachi
>fucking Mezuki
I feel like you fundamentally don't understand how to do damage in Nioh 2.
Pro-tip : you're supposed to get free grapples with the yokai abilities.

Attached: ishygddt.png (279x322, 236.37K)

I played most of the game with Odachi but I regret not playing switchaxe sooner. It has such a beautiful melody when you get into a rhythm, especially when you have the mystic dyad.

>Nioh 2 is more aggressive and faster than the first 1

No, Nioh 2 is a bit slower than Nioh 1. Nioh 2 only appears to be more aggressive due to you wasting more time on enemies because they are damage sponges.

I literally spam burst counter whenever I can and use the yokai abilities and their ki is fucking neverending. Was there a patch that changed this shit? I even see people in old videos going straight from burst into grapples and dunking 50% of a ki bar in one counter, but that never ever happens for me.

Nioh 2 is a prequel.
It also covers Nioh 1 story at one point.
It's safe to skip.

You want boss to just bend over and let you fuck him or what?

sounds like somebody isn't using their yokai abilities

I want to be able to not have to pretend I'm playing Elden Ring and actually fight the bosses instead of waiting for them to do a burst move or exhaust their combo.

It literally takes half the time to kill Nioh 2 frog compared to Nioh 1 frog.

>Nioh 2
>waiting
You're fucking trolling me mate, you gotta fucking be

Attached: 318.jpg (900x900, 111.46K)

>I even see people in old videos going straight from burst into grapples and dunking 50% of a ki bar in one counter, but that never ever happens for me.
"Yokais have 2 ki bars, their purple ki and their max ki. When their purple ki empties, you stunlock them and their max ki decreases more. When the max ki is at 0, you can do a grapple."
Yokai abilities do a gigaton more against max ki than regular ki. In addition, emptying the ki on an enemy with a burst counter automatically gives you the grapple riposte without having to empty their max ki first.
It also helps to use more ki-damage related skills, and to use yokai abilities (and spellcasting) to regenerate more ki ontop of ki pulse. But keeping at least 1 yokai ability enough for a finisher is a good idea, which incentivizes having multiple abilities of different costs.

Sounds like somebody hasn't played both games thoroughly to the end.

yeah but how's nioh 1

Attached: pep.jpg (600x600, 124.65K)

Just started playing the other day.
>That mission in a mountain pass
>The area to fight is either a narrow path or a narrow cavern
>the enemies have a lunge attack that basically closes in on you in a second
So fucking fun haha. God that mission was miserable.

I use Staff main and Hatchet sub, also adding lightning using talisman. So far so good.
I was an Odachifag in 1, also used the phoenix armor set + summon for autorevive, sometimes I feel like cheating.

It's the same game with less content and more rough-around-the-edges.

>waiting for bosses
come on boy
what are you doing? you have so many options to utterly fuck over everything
dance the fuck around people with your weapon skills or parry them or use your yokai abilities to ignore damage/dodge attacks/shit on them or zip across the screen with low stance dodges or just fucking block in midstance or ANYTHING

the game genuinely gets harder if you play passively
beat the fuck out of the boss and he won't have a ki bar to do anything with
except for IZA JINJOU NI SHOUBU because we all know he cheats but you can still style on his ass with the right combos

Still a great game but Nioh 2 adds several new mechanics and weapons to give combat even more variety.

Nigger you absolutely cannot fight any of the first ~6 bosses with the gear you have at that stage without waiting around. Trying to be aggressive before you unlock the majority of a weapon's moveset will just get you exploded. There are also plenty of Yokai that you simply cannot be aggro against because you can't burst them down hard enough without proper gear.
The only part about that I didn't know was the burst counter instantly depleting max ki thing.

you are incorrect, my friend

>yeah but how's nioh 1
Worse.
Less moves.
Less weapons.
Less magic.
Shittier story.
Shittier protagonist.
Less build variety.
The only thing it has unique for it (living weapon) is bland and boring compared to sequel's counter part (yokai form).

It's like Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. There is no reason to ever play Sonic 1.

>Shittier protagonist
Fuck you faggot, Birry the first Hakujin Samurai is infinitely better than Original Hide Donut Steel.

>yeah but how's nioh 1
It's better than Nioh 2 in every way.

what's a good weapon when it comes to dealing with multiple yokais at once or should I just get gooder with the fists

Attached: 1643501367075.jpg (475x531, 35.33K)

>Trying to be aggressive before you unlock the majority of a weapon's moveset will just get you exploded
That's the single most false statement on this entire board right now.
Most of the unlockable moves aren't even relevant against big fat yokai bosses and monsters, they're mostly parries for hooman scum. Learn how to switch stance, how your 3 dodges works and how to ki fucking pulse goddammit.

>Nigger you absolutely cannot fight any of the first ~6 bosses with the gear you have at that stage without waiting around.
Mezuki gives you a free yokai shift, and has -30% hp than normal
Enenra gives you 3 free ki destroyers and extra damage with the water pots, and has -20% than normal
Yatsu-no-Kami is balanced like a normal boss at that point, but you already have access to the blacksmith and spells.
And it only takes like 3 shiftling skill points fully get the essential for ki/anima usage (ki regen on burst counter, +2 upgrades on yokai realm dispel anima)
