Listen Andrew, your game is pretty good, don't get me wrong, but Final Fantasy Origins: Strangers of Paradise is one of the best JRPGs of all time!
It's only okay
i hate blacks. they have no education
it has better job system than FF5.
The game mechanics are very good, but the lack of a traditional story really hurt my ability to keep playing.
Simple things like a son of a bitch guy who commits injustice and you have to go after him for revenge is enough to give the player an extra boost.
loved the game, got 100% steam achievements. Lots of fun finding the broken end game builds and doing the sky arena
not chocobo racing fucking sucks
But that IS the story, you gotta take down the grand master for all those unfair banishments
Stop making those shit threads or I'll fuck you in the andrewssy
Hey andrew can you put your shi- your awesome game on gog already? So I can pir- so I can buy it without any steam drm, you know
Andrew, add more classes, Andrew. I need big titty dancers
Pretty good game, shame it comes to a screeching halt once you beat all the postgame shit which doesn't really take that long to do
Gave me a couple weeks worth of content tho
andrew release more content
that's literally the story
agreed, the one thing i didn't like but thank god you can skip it all now
>walk into bossfight blind in volcano
>get my shit LIGGERED
>go back in with an actual strategy
>beat it ezpz
well shit
>enter salmon river
>hear this for the first time
kino
Square games' job systems have always been utter trash though
That's not Elden Ring
I really really like the music in this game. I also hate JRPGs and have played more of this than any other.
>Dev is bombarded by posts to make his game easier or otherwise change the balance
>Listens but makes them all optional changes so I don't have to have my experience ruined because I didn't marathon the game day 1 before it got cut down
unironically bought the game because of this
just get the demo, it was so long I ended up just buying the game before I saw the end of it because I was tired of sequence breaking my way into areas just to have the game cockblock me
The game was fine, but it felt like certain classes were useless, and some had many abilities that didn't complement completely their attribute rating.
Also, why everyone was fine, but the moment I reached Sara Sara Desert people started freaking out about this banishing thing never mentioned before? I took a long time to understand.
Also, there needs to be an function to auto-buy the maximum amount possible of consumables in shops.
But it was a fun game though.
not only that but if you DO make the game easier you can't un-do it in the options to try adn pretend like you beat it without the handicaps for all the tryhard autists
Regarding one of your points, I still don't understand why Reaper has such a high amount of MP.
I understand that maybe people could run Reaper/Aegis, since their skills cost MP... but that doesn't sound as good as Reaper/Warrior.
I also think magic damage classes perform quite bad in long boss fights due to not being able to use MP recovery items in battle.
I could set up an Aegis with Resist Break, and Cleric with the +35% fire damage received debuff before casting an resist ignoring fire nuke on a boss for some nice damage... but then I could only do it 5 times at most due to the high cost of the spells.
>I also think magic damage classes perform quite bad in long boss fights due to not being able to use MP recovery items in battle.
funny, in my experience bosses died before I'd OOM
try running 2 casters and 2 supports for them instead of 1 caster and 1 melee. Melee is too weak compared to casters
I ran either Shaman/Wizard or Dervish/Shaman, Cleric/Warlock, Aegis/Warrior or Reaper/Warrior and a Warlock/Hunter or Warlock/Rogue.
I don't know if it's because by the end of the game I was still level 46 on normal...but I felt like my damage caster was doing good damage, like 5k per turn, but then he kept running out of mana after a few shots and I had to play very defensive while waiting for mana to recover (Dervish or Refresh from Mixed Magic).
Did you skip a lot?
I hit max level before I even got the fish
I pretty much used a reaper/warrior just to mess around with the lifesteel. then assassin/rogue, using backstab crits to 1shot most enemies. summoner/cleric for healing/aoe and then wizard/weaver to quick myself into a double flare if needed.
For end end game I made two wizard/weavers and the other two characters I forgot but one was a summoner for the group stun/fire damage taken and then I'd just quick->double flare to pretty much turn 2-3 anything.
You can also try the sleep bow cheese as that works on any single target boss
Don't know if I skipped, but after getting the quitar, I traveled west from the capital, won the race after a lot of tries, got the fish mount, started exploring the rivers, and somehow I ended up on the ancient reservoir, got the goat mount, and then proceeded to use it to go to the not-japan province.
The game was really non-linear.
Reaper/wizard and reaper/dervish are extremely strong in in the early and midgame. Reaper also has access to an MP restore skill along side its serviceable MP pool & decent mind.
How did you beat the salmon race with the rental fish? I didn't think that was possible.
If you're just in non-jap there's still a lot of stuff to do though. Like all of the snow area to get the owl and the island for the slower fish
then quintar racing for end game gear and such
It's an alright game but if it is your GOTY you haven't played very many games this year. I do hope Crystal Project does get some more recognition but making claims like GOTY only 5 months into the year is just dumb.
if ER didn't come out this year its easily GOTY. Its legitimately once of the best JRPGs of all time and its made by a single autist in a basement.
Hwy Andrew, put some more isles on the open sea, and maybe some caves in the depths/under the sea with more classes. Would make for some more FUN ADVENTURES.
ive been wanting some class based dudes in a line and its perfect
Almost makes up for the ball buster that fighting the shit in this area just as you barely make the flames blue is
>beat the salmon race with the rental fish
You don't. You use it to get the real salmon mount before you even get another mount that you need to get to the salmon mount's dungeon.
Can you beat the game after collecting only the Crystals necessary necessary to go to the capital? My idea was buying the teleport stone from the capital shrine, warp to the ceiling, and jump to the building on the left to gain access to the west.
oh okay, doing it that way
you can go to the final boss as soon as you have the goat but you probably won't be strong enough to beat it without grinding some levels/getting the stronger classes
Yeah, but the thing is, I want to fuck with the Grand Master.
Fuck searching for Crystals, I just want to sate my exploration urges.
I'm going to look at those messages saying "citizens who haven't collected more than x crystals will be banished" and laugh out of defiance.
>get that axe that gives you 30AP at the start of the fight
>realize it only really works for nomad
That's my point man. We have 7 months to go so there could be another game or two to be better than it and ER is already out. It could win best indie or something though. If that's even a thing.
I'm stuck at the Salmon race thing. Am I supposed to wrangle a fish to win the races or rent one? Do I have to beat the races to carry on? I have the Fancy Quintar. Does the race award a use-on-anywater-salmon to get to the next place?
If you have the golden quintar you don't need the royal salmon, but you may want to beat the race anyway for the open sea map
The linear order is: get the quitar, get the ibek, get the owl, and then you get the use the owl to get the fish this guy gets on the video:
youtube.com
And you use said fish to win the race, to get an even better and faster fish.
I love freeware music in games. Somehow it sounds cohesive even though it's all from different artists.
There wont be a game on the level of ER or CP (lol) for five years at best. I don't think you understand how impressive either of these games are.
linux GAMING THREAD
the blatant shilling was gay so i pirated it and it's actually pretty neat.
>it has better job system than FF5.
Buddy, you're talking some big shit here and you're going to have to back that up.
It's ok. Credit where it's due though, it's good for a one man job.
Overworld/level design/combat is kino. I wish the classes had more fun combinations, though. I didn't feel like many of the classes went well together. Pretty much every combination I found that I thought would be fun was cucked by abilities requiring a certain weapon.
>Pretty much every combination I found that I thought would be fun was cucked by abilities requiring a certain weapon.
isn't there a way to dual-wield though?
Guys how to I become Andrew's friend?
And get him to apply this level of talent to a lost magic successor
How would that even work without a touch screen? MAYBE a mouse? There was that Wii spiritual sequel.
It plays pretty well with a mouse in DS emulators.
>it has better job system than FF5.
if this is true, you better prove it
But Andrew, the competition is pretty stiff this year
felt really crappy. Moving around felt super limited and if you wanna take a moment to grind you have to run all over the fucking place because there are like 3 enemies per area
i wanted it to be good but it was shit
Don't be so hard on yourself Andrew
Say something nice about Andrew and his wife.
he looks like a guy who really loves designing nonlinear rpgs
is it on Switch?
nope, only PCCHADS get to enjoy Andrew's masterpiece
