You weren't warned? Not even people who like the game will tell you the gameplay is passable.

All Yoko Taro games have bad gameplay, but this one is just on another level entirely

i thought people were exaggerating

You had to have played it on release, otherwise it will be severely dated now.

Everyone knows the gameplay sucks. It doesnt make it a bad game though, I was playing it last night on a real ps2 and it's pretty mind numbingly hard to play especially later on in the game it gets fucking rough. the story music and aesthetic make up for it though, its really the only thing driving me to keep playing.

I really enjoyed the aerial combat. Inuart, big Manah and Furiae were pretty great bosses.

I didn't mind it until it was time to get all the weapons. Fuck that shit I'll never be bored enough to slog through it.

Filtered.

DG1 is a gem.

Its monotonous on purpose to prove a "meta" point. Killing thousands of soldiers the same way should be boring, and slightly sickening.
I know this doesnt excuse it the game not being any fun, but it at least rationalises it. The whole game was a sort of "deconstruction" of the musou genre.

>Everyone knows the gameplay sucks. It doesnt make it a bad game though

It doesn't, a game doesn't have to have good gameplay to be good. As long as its other qualities make up for it, it can still be a good game.

youtu.be/CHnAqxAE7fQ
Yeah pretty much everyone's always said the gameplay was ass
Still finished it though

This is coming from someone who replayed it countless of times. It's one of those games that the more you play them, the more the gameplay becomes less painful. Especially when we're talking about maneuvering Angelus. I now basically do it with closed eyes. Most people say the primitive musou style is a turn off but I think it has its charm as an early game by Yoko. It's simple compared to real musou games but it's not as bad as people make it sound, pretty serviceable. On a personal note - I started enjoying the gameplay after replaying it so many times. Drakengard 1's selling point is the incredible and batshit story and the powerful, absorbing and haunting atmosphere that rarely any other game can replicate. Both of these elements make going through the not-so-perfect gameplay a well worth experience and those for the most part what make me go back to replay the game.

I replay the game to murder innocent creatures

Attached: j9MDYpc.jpg (1703x1080, 128.7K)

I remember after a while, I actually came to almost enjoy the gameplay since when combined with the oppressive atmosphere and insane music, it creates an odd experience that I couldn't get enough of.
Also best song coming through

That's not Growing Wings...

At least you don't repeat the Iast arc 4 times like in Nier. Every ending and ending missions are quite different.

Nier is by far the most repetitive Taro game when it comes to routes.

You know, reading this makes me want to play it again because I very much loved the crazy story but the gameplay really filtered me.

It's bad on purpose. And then you learn to enjoy it.

>Drakengard 1's selling point is the incredible and batshit story and the powerful, absorbing and haunting atmosphere
Noted. I'll just watch a walkthrough on YouTube

You have to play it to get the full effect of the maddening gameplay and soundtrack layered together.

>gameplay is fucking awful and the OST is ear rape
>story is the only thing going for it and only for how crazy it gets
>story gets censored
I hate this game so much. The only good part about it is that it makes those Caim cutscenes in Drakengard 2 really awesome.

In his defense people say games I like are "unplayable" all the time. So I expected it to be "kinda shit" not actually unplayable.

The gameplay is supposed to be repetitive

>the OST is ear rape

I rented it from blockbuster when it was new. Didn't like it. Loved Nier Gestalt though.

Does someone have the pasta for DG1?

Route/Ending B makes some sense in Nier, with the extra scenes as well as shades being understandable now. So you going back through it all sheds new light on things. C and D are just bullshit and only add a tiny scene or two of Devola and Popola, as well as adding a little more to the Louise story. Ending E was great at least.

based D2chad

I'll tell you the flying parts are passable. I won't defend the grounded or strafe segments though, those are lukewarm ass.

Like I said, it's not that bad. Even if you're bad at it at first, it will eventually become manageable as you progress. People sure make it sound like it's completely unplayable when it's not.
You did not get the full Drakengard experience if you did not control Caim yourself in his path down to corruption and destruction.

dude it really is,
youtu.be/HXkFJXb6Rg8
i get it, repeating samples is part of drakengard's aesthetic but when you're ACTUALLY PLAYING it and have this shit blasting in you ears, it gets really fucking annoying.

Nah, it's great. When you play it you don't even notice the skipping and repeating. You just flow with the chaos.
youtube.com/watch?v=To0AS3hWp_E

>Caim
>corruption and destruction
Caim did nothing wrong and only ever killed bad guys.

I don't think you've played it recently.
I was playing it last night and it made me wanna tear my hair out, shit was mad annoying.

The used copy I bought online kept freezing when loading the cutscene where Caim meets Angelus.
Was is a divine intervention?

Just emulate it.

I last played it right before the Replicant remake/remaster came out.

This is not a Koto Hoshino tier outsider art piece. This is a crazy bus tier sample under a vocal track that sounds like a teenage girl trying to sing along to a song on the radio. Some things are just bad.
youtu.be/A1gVwUDz0Ts

Meh, maybe it was the gameplay pissing me off which amplified the annoyance of the song.

there should be 'Yea Forums explains a game' thread or collection because, bless this user, i want to play drakengard now

>Growing Wings
>crazy bus tier
Holy filtered

>Caim did nothing wrong

Attached: t. Caim.jpg (1920x1080, 824.9K)

He only ever killed people who wanted to kill Furiae. It's not a problem to enjoy killing as long as you're killing evil people.

>Growing Wings
>bad
Fuck no, GW is unironically a great song and actually does the repeating sample thing in a smart way.

Caim is a child-murdering sicko.

Those kids were demons and Leonard nearly got himself killed for being a bleeding heart about it.

>that one tourist who doesn't understand that "filtered" means "I have no defence of this"

Attached: 32f.jpg (251x242, 10.29K)

If you can't suffer through the Drakengard there's really no point to it. The genuine experience of suffering, unironically, is the core of Drakengard and its themes. Pointless, godless suffering. The game is built upon a series of failures, too lates, and never good enoughs. Every sacrifice is met in kind with an even worse response. While it doesn't excuse the gameplay being as rough as it is, better combat wouldn't make the game any less miserable.

Suffering through greater degrees of misery is the point.

Remake when

>control Caim yourself
You have no idea how many times I watched games with shitty gameplay on YT, fuck wasting my time on clunky shit. I watched fuckign Silent Hill 1, Resident Evil 1 and Metal Gear Solid 1 on YT, you think I wouldn't watch this weeb game on YT too?

Attached: 1643898181610.jpg (978x1094, 134.47K)

True but the kids deserved it so he still did nothing wrong

I followed the ign walkthrough and don't regret it.

>Caim did nothing wrong and only ever killed bad guys.
No I meant corruption as in mind corruption after he went psycho after finding out about Furiae's incestuous feelings and watching her killing herself. Destruction as in the massacre he laid on his enemies.
>Frogposting zoomer
Don't reply to my posts, dude.

Attached: The Pillars of the Gaming Industry.png (1598x842, 1.56M)

I'm just telling you the truth, dude, not beating around the bush
I WILL watch it on YT. I will NOT play it.

Attached: 1646387258246.png (1024x936, 661.17K)

>about Furiae's incestuous feelings and watching her killing herself
Wish I could save her...

God I love Caim.

>gameplay is bad like really bad
>"okay i'll just watch it online"
>NOOOO YOU HAVE TO PLAY IT because... you just have to!
Tarodrones sure are cancer

I'm worried SQEX will impIode before a remake of Drakengard 1/remaster of Drakengard 3 happens, bros.

It's a miserable experience only lightened by the soundtrack and stories. Enjoy your descent into madness and once you have finished the journey, take that pain and inflict it upon others.
youtube.com/watch?v=OsRZjy5o6rs

Do whatever the fuck you want, faggot, I don't care.
One of the saddest characters ever. She has so many facettes to her. She has no friends because she's the goddess, so the only one who treats her like a person is her brother which is such a change for her. She knows her feelings are wrong and would just push him away from her, but she can't change it.
