It's a lot of fun but if you don't like catching being 90% of the gameplay you're not going to like it. The latest patch completely made shiny hunting worse than garbage when it was the most fun game before it beforehand since you could at least guarantee what you were hunting for but in exchange they added a bunch more groups of Pokemon to encounter (So more chances for shinies) and harder trainer fights in postgame.

It's pretty much 30 with drops if a bunch of enemies are attacking you at the same time because it spawns particle effects or you're in a Dimensional Rift and have like three Pokemon attacking you at the same time. Some Pokemon (The legendaries basically) will cause lag using certain attacks and when chasing the Genies they will all lag the game with their tornadoes.

I liked that you could just sneak up and capture wild pokemon without getting into a fight. I didn't like the weird Dark Souls type boss fights. Overall it just looks and feels cheap though. Hopefully we get a sequel with more effort put into it.

I literally only play Pokemon Go to fill the Pokedex and send stuff over to Home. I don't even battle at all because it's so long and tedious. I bought LGPE just so I could catch a bunch of stuff and shiny hunt, it's why the wild Pokemon battle stuff didn't bother me.

Look man, what do you like more about Pokemon, the catching or the battling? If it's the former it's absolutely worth it but lower your expectations for the open world aspect of it since it's not super detailed. If it's the latter it's not that worth it until postgame when you fight stuff ridiculously high leveled.
Combat is decently challenging and I've nearly whited out multiple times but if you know how to break it like with backstabs then it's only challenging in postgame trainer battles. The "final boss" battle was easily one of the best parts of Pokemon. Battles are also balanced differently than the regular games, the levels matter less. It's fun to sneak around catching stuff. It's fun to catch and fight Alphas, and it's fun to just fill out the Pokedex.

It's a much better loveletter to sinnoh than the shitty d/p remake. If you don't have a lot of love for diamond/pearl there isn't a lot there in terms of setting since the neat novelty of being sinnoh in the past is lost on you.
The game is a glorified spinoff since it's just about catching pokemon. There are like six actual pokemon trainers in the entire game. It does have by far the best pokemon catching mechanic in any monster catching game and it's very addicting.
If you don't like collecting pokemon or sinnoh there isn't a lot for you here.

This. It's my favorite since Gen 2 and the only pokemon game I've completed the pokedex because doing so is actually fun and not annoyingly tedious.
I recommend you giving it a try OP, for me it took a few hours before it clicked but once it did, I loved it.

As someone who 100% the dex, here are my takes:
Positives:
- Love the EV system. Super easy to get EVs up, and releasing garbage mons you never use actually has a reward.
- The "catching Pokémon" mechanic is great.
- You go more in-depth with the characters than you do in regular Pokémon games.
- The battling style is surprisingly fun.
Negatives:

- If you're looking for battles, this isn't your game. The main games are arguably 75% battles (at least) and 25% catching/exploring. This game is 90% catching/exploring and 10% battles. People who are only into Pokémon for battles may not like this game as much.
