I'm writing an epic length fantasy novel about gnostic belief and find schizophrenia helps me understand cathar beliefs

I also watch arthouse cinema and occasionally read some experimental novels

I'd say I'm the former. I have always been drawn to the surreal, macabre and kafkaesque from a young-ish age. It is a sort of media which has always been the most interesting to me. I love thrillers and stuff which is not right in your face about its story, and is left up to interpenetration. Surreal and dark works have massively impacted my writing and tastes in media.
I have also often found myself discovering things like Yume Nikki, Pathalogic, Umineko and the like by pure chance and playing them on my own and loving them (or hating them in pathalogic's case), and then only later finding out there's a large pseud fanbase around it.

Calling them "schizo" is a meme and negatively impacts the work because everyone just lumps it in as "oh you mean that reddit shit where people associate a mental illness with an entirely wrong idea." But I will admit, calling something "schizo" is an easy way to describe a broad range of things in one word.

Unironically Black Souls, but more Black Souls 2 than 1. Though playing 1 before 2 is mandatory for making sense of what's going on. Even though they're porn games, the porn scenes aren't mandatory and the game has a lot of schizocore stuff going on throughout, especially with literal sanity systems in the game. If you want to play them, it shouldn't be too hard to find them if you have a little over half a brain.

Pretty much. I view (most of) the games as arthouse pieces and appreciate their experimental approach to game design/story and sometimes the need to interpret or analyse them
