People dogpiled it because it didn't have girls from the first game, despite the devs specifically saying HP2 was meant to flesh out the HunieCam girls as full-fledge characters like HP1 did to its cast. The exceptions being Lola (his favorite character) and Jessie (who was much better in 2 than 1). Questionable choices, to be sure, as they consistently ranked near the bottom in popularity polls.

Beyond that, 2 greatly improved on every other aspect of the series, from the gameplay, art, music, etc.

The game was specifically designed for you to bounce between girls, not focus on one of them all the time. When one's stamina gets low, switch to the other. It's not a hard concept to understand.

2 was interesting with the different mechanics with the baggage and such but it veered off course being that it didn’t really feel like you were dating the girls.

I'd like more explicit and interactable sex scenes. HuniePop isn't that "daring lewd game" on Steam now that Steam's filled to the brim with brutal elf girl gang rape sims with passable gameplay. Keep the minigames, but make the scenes and dialogue significantly more explicit. There's no reason it can't remain a dating sim while simultaneously dipping into some hardcore scenes and the occasional pregnancy scare.

Alternatively, focus on changing the format by keeping it "softcore", and moving to a more complex game format. It might require dipping a little bit into sci-fi or fantasy elements. Hell, make it an isekai for all I care. Expanding the base format of the game would be a fun change, too, since you rarely see complex dating sims.
