Generic fetch-quests =/= story.
You have no ultimate end goal, no unique NPCs, no cinematics, nothing.

It has a quest line, but only for certain factions. It's actually pretty fun if you set the difficulty to the max so that all the cool weapons won't spawn until you're a high reputation. The early game really feels like a struggle to survive

GAMMA adds some things in that sense. Anomaly has a basic story that takes you across the zone and allows you to meet the major characters, but anomaly is not meant to be linear; it's made to be a very well made, immersive, stable, complete vision of "the zone." It does that better than anything else, and presents a foundation to build upon.

there's not much to digest about anomaly, it's very well put together sandbox consisting of the three games, if you want to wander around and survive in the zone it's for you, if you want a linear narrative experience it isn't

I don't know what half the people here are fuckin talking about but I can personally say if you pick almost any faction that's not hostile to everyone (bandits, military, mercs) you'll get a storyline to find Strelok if you talk to your faction leader. The quest pretty much is a copy of SoC, with you having to go around disabling the brain scorcher and infiltrating the labs and finding out what happened to Strelok's team after the original games.
After you do that you get another long quest line to stop a group of religious cultists from taking over the zone thats also pretty fun.

Anomaly is basically a framework to represent the complete zone and allow someone to exist within it like any other stalker, it cannot replace the games and isn't meant to, but it is of great quality and nothing has created the zone so completely quite like it

There's also the UNISG story AND their own personal story. I think Sin and Monolith get their own story too and there's story mods for the Military.
