Ryza 2 and Sophie 2 are the most recent instalments and are of two separate mini series.
Playing the first of each game isn't strictly necessary since the plot in all these is basically cute girls doing cute things.

The alchemy system is the main meat of the game and tends to differ with each alchemist in addition to crafting whatever items the plot demands it is also your main way of powering up too. Levelling is slow and affords only minor stat boosts, the only way to keep up without an unholy amount of grind is to use alchemy to craft super strong weapons and armour.

Quite different as it's an open world game, the original was pretty jank and ran poorly but by all accounts the DX version is much improve there. It is pretty grindy though.

I'm currently replaying Sophie 1 and starting my first playthrough of Sophie 2. Hot damn, the series has changed a lot in the past 7 years. Also Sophie continues to remain a best right alongside Totori (Totori 2 when).

This first trilogy has time limits, specially the first one is a little harder. Though these games are not as hard as people pretend. First game is comfy as fuck. Second game is more adventure type. Meruru tries to be more like Rorona.
All these games are connected and is cool seeing the characters getting older.

Ayesha, Escha and Logy, and Shallie. These games take the story a little more seriously but not too much. Again, you see characers growing up between games. Time limit? Lmao. Easy as fuck. Maybe Ayesha would be a good start point to start? Depends on you. Escha and Logy has 2 protagonists, one of them a male. Cool combat. Shallie improved a lot thanks to the additions.
