Here's a list of some of SEGA's defunct dev studios. SmileBit >Responsible for: >Jet Set Radio >Jet Set Radio Future >Panzer Dragoon Orta >GunValkyrie dead
AV (Amusement Vision) >Responsible for: >Super Monkey Ball >Super Monkey Ball 2 >F-Zero GX >Daytona USA dead
Hitmaker >Responsible for: >Crazy Taxi >Crazy Taxi 2 >Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller >Virtual-On >Segagaga dead

Aren't you glad the fucking DVD player won? Thanks to Sony we get "cinematic" movie games.
No, the games industry shifting from Japan to the west made gaming worse. Westerners don’t have a soul so they can only emulate reality rather than create something new
Colton Russell
Didn't these get absorbed into other teams? There's no way they just have Sonic Team and RGG Studios right?
Jaxson Reed
>Meme gimmick games and a literal moviegame The DVD player gave me good movies instead of Sega's bad movies
Aiden Mitchell
All those games are a hundred times better than anything on the PS5 right now Actually 0 x 100 is still 0
Anthony Carter
I do agree that Sega leaving the console market was a huge negative for gaming, but I can't hate the PS2. It gave us so many good games.
This, however, is still depressing as fuck to look at.
Jack Martin
>Westerners don’t have a soul Strongly disagree. It's just that the West only looks at whats profitable and soulful content doesn't always align with that >they can only emulate reality rather than create something new This I agree with to an extent and it's the prime reason I've always preferred Japanese games over Western ones. With the West it feels like everything needs to have some realism injected into it. No country but Japan could ever make a game like God Hand.
Julian Phillips
The only time westerners create a soulful game is when they copy Japan
Sebastian Walker
thats not even that many games.
Connor Walker
jet set radio always sucked. crazy taxi is a decentish arcade game if played on a real cabinet, but the console releases are meaningless and panzer dragoon really, REALLY sucked. not just the game itself, as a genre really.
Joshua Jackson
I think Jet Set Radio is better than any 3D Sonic game. Take that as you will
Christian James
>Didn't these get absorbed into other teams? There's no way they just have Sonic Team and RGG Studios right? The teams get shuffled around. Also, Nintendo poaches the a lot of the best devs from the teams that work on stuff like Mario & Sonic games. Plus some of the old staff left to form their own studios that also are all mostly defunct at this point. As an example a bunch of Sonic Team members left to form Artoon which made stuff like Blinx on the Xbox and The Last Story on Wii, but they're dead now too.
Holy shit who cares about any of this shit? Good. Fuck em. Overrated trash. Literally only Shenmue, Soul Calibur and Code Veronica were worth looking at. I swear at this stage dreamcast is just a zoomer death cult. >b-b-but crazy taxi!? run at a brick wall really fucking hard OP.
Caleb Adams
Actual retard
Colton Nelson
What's the fucking source for this because i guarantee you no one is buying Madden outside of burger land.
Samuel Brooks
>Literally only Shenmue, Soul Calibur and Code Veronica were worth looking at You couldn't possibly make yourself look more like a normalfag if you tried
Carter Garcia
When a 1 of 3 pillars holding up something falls...
Asher Richardson
phantasy star online changed the world forever and it doesn't get enough credit
Christopher Davis
He isn't though. You /vr/ clowns keep pointing to mid games that were mid when they came out and saying "SEE?!" like it's something.
Jack Johnson
>Holy shit who cares about any of this shit? Good. Fuck em. Overrated trash. >t. seething movie game fan
>muh underground Dreamcast cult eat shit you pretentious poser. Bet you weren't even alive when the dreamcast was out.
Blake Miller
You can build a stable structure with 2 pillars. Arc de Triomphe. And there's Microsoft.
Mason Kelly
This is why I find anyone that says "hurr durr PlayStation fans on PS4 just play sports shit and COD" to be giga retards. This has been going on since 6th gen. That didn't change the fact the PS2 had a killer library. Popular games are popular? Who would have guessed??
Anthony Ross
>I AM SILLY people who get emotional about the dreamcast everyone.
Nathaniel Harris
oh no we lost Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio how will we ever recover from this anyways...
Dylan Anderson
Here's that amazing PS2 library everyone bought the console for.
>zoomer Yea Forums is actually going to try to push some narrative that no one who owned a PS2 owned video games for it Dreamcastfags are the most bitter fucks video game fandom has ever seen. Name me a group more angry than them, genuinely can't think of one.
Man, there's retards that say the DVD player capabilities had no bearing on the PS2's success but then there's other retards like you that go overboard in the other direction and act like that was the sole reason people bought it. You're simply a dumbass
Jackson Fisher
these kinds of posts will always be cope. PS2 has the strongest home console library next to the SNES and from the looks of it that wont change anytime soon.
Daniel Taylor
>zoomer Yea Forums is actually going to try to push some narrative that no one who owned a PS2 owned video games for it It's a joke, retard. My point, if you had actually really thought about it, was that the reason the PS2 succeeded wasn't because of its games, it succeeded because it was a cheap DVD player. And that ultimately Sony has been a detriment to the gaming as a whole.
PS2 had a notably high software attach rate of about 10, which is higher than the Dreamcast's. sie.com/en/corporate/release/2011/110214.html >The cumulative sales of PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system reached 150 million units > More than 1.52 billion units of PlayStation 2 software have been sold worldwide
Zachary Brown
Its hard to even list ten good dreamcast games. Even harder if you account for peoples personal tastes.
Isaac Sanders
I guess the Wii must've had a library of similar quality to the PS2 and just as many quality titles considering the attach rate is basically the same.
>Its hard to even list ten good dreamcast games. Not exactly a fair fight seeing as the console was barely on shelves more than a year in the US
Colton King
Whether you like them or not, people did buy Wiis to play casual games. You need to stop seething and coping that people also bought PS2s to play games, because they bought more than Dreamcast owners did.
Hudson Howard
>Own console that's supported for 1 year >Compared to consoles that were supposed for almost a decade Who bought more games? Hmmmmm
You could buy a DVD player for much less than a PS2. cnet.com/culture/dvd-players-no-longer-go-it-alone/ >The cost of DVD players fell more than $200 within two years of their introduction in 1997 for nearly $500, according to Peddie Research. And the price slide hasn't stopped. Although the Consumer Electronics Association says the average price of a DVD player was $193 last year, consumers can now find players for less than $100. The only reason to buy a PS2 is if you also want to play PS2 games.
Camden Williams
>PS2 is on sale for 13 years Owners buy an average of 9 games >Dreamcast is on sale for 1.5 year Owners buy an average of 7 games
Anthony Anderson
PS2 was an incredibly expensive DVD player, easily double to triple the price of standalone player. People buy the PS2 for the games.
I miss the Dreamcast too and it was on pace to being my favorite console of that gen. Had it not died it probably would have been. That said, I don't understand how people can say either the PS2 ONLY sold because of the DVD player or that it ONLY sold because of the games. Neither is true. The PS2 was the ultimate entertainment system. It played your games, CDs, AND played DVDs which was a huge fucking deal in early 2000. Yes there were cheaper players at the time, but they also couldn't do half of what the PS2 could.
>Play your DVD >Play your music >Best Dolby Surround Sound at the time >Play all of the PS1 games you liked >Play all upcoming PS2 games >Play online with said games for free >All for $299
The notion that the PS2 was only a DVD player is ridiculous. However, the notion that the DVD player didn't help or wasn't instrumental in any way to the sales of the PS2 (especially early on) is equally ridiculous. PS2 was, again, the BEST valued electronics product without question at the time. You would be ridiculous not to get one for it's capabilities whether or not you wanted it for the DVDs or the games.
Anthony Smith
The PS2 was on sale for so long because people STILL bought games even after the "next gen" consoles had been out for years. The PS2 had the greatest volume of software sold of any console, ever. To say people didn't buy games for it is absurd.
Brayden Ross
It's hyperbole. But the main reason people bought the PS2 was the value they saw in the fact the PS2 was a DVD player and a game console. I don't think it was the great library like every claims. Later in the PS2's life that probably was an aspect because the system fucking snowballed into the biggest fuckin library ever.
Evan Parker
>Name me a group more angry than them Saturnfags?
Blake Stewart
>But the main reason people bought the PS2 was the value they saw in the fact the PS2 was a DVD player and a game console [citation needed]
James Wright
>To say people didn't buy games for it is absurd. It is absurd. In fact, so absurd actually that I never even said it. I made a joke that references the fact that a large selling point of the PS2 was that it played DVDs.
Landon Lee
Anyone notice that dreamcastfags can't just say "dreamcast thread?" No it literally has to also be "AAAAHHHHHHHH FUCK THE DVD PLAYER FUCK IT FUCK IT" just talk about the console you tards.
Christopher Cooper
I kind of agree to this, mainly the rise of "AAA" games like Assassin's Creed, Farcry, Just Cause
Sony was also fine for a while until they went full on mature cinematic with stuff like TLOU
The DVD player did add value, but as pointed out elsewhere, if people only cared about DVDs they would have saved $100 and bought a DVD player instead. A year after launch the PS2 had GTA III, the defining game of the decade. If anything caused the PS2 to snowball, it was that.
Caleb Ramirez
>But the main reason people bought the PS2 was the value they saw in the fact the PS2 was a DVD player and a game console. You keep just saying this pulled straight out your ass.
Ryder Lopez
>[citation needed] Here's an arstechica forum post from 2001 >The DVD player did add value, but as pointed out elsewhere, if people only cared about DVDs they would have saved $100 and bought a DVD player instead. Yeah, I never said people that bought PlayStation 2s didn't care about games. I only said that they liked DVD playback.
Given the bulllshit they said about NFTs I'm glad all they do now is fuck up their own franchises. Sega were always shit and deserved every one of their failures. Those companies you listed didn't though all of those games were bangers.
Cooper Garcia
a shitty forum post. amazing proof lmao.
Luke Cruz
The PS2 couldnt even play pirated movies. Completely useless.
Dreamcast is a goldmine of true to arcade ports and charming experimental games no one ever heard of that weren't amazing but were all solidly 7/10 at least.
Andrew Turner
I played burned DVDs on my PS2 all the time.
Jacob Wilson
The Dreamcast probably has the best ratio of good games to bad games of any console.
William Collins
The Dreamcast was a case of too little too late. If they wanted to keep making good games, maybe they shouldn't have released fuck all for the preceding 5 years.
All of this is anecdotal rather than anything that can be determined with numeric accuracy. You just had to be there to know. Anyone who says the DVD player is the only factor is lying or ignorant, and so is anyone who says that the DVD player didn't matter.
Owen Jenkins
cool
Lincoln Brown
The DVD aspect was the main selling point for most people. DVD didn’t start taking off until 2000 and most new players were $400-500
