>we want the soulsnigger audience
They almost remade the game completely , it work very well on the modern systems, so I will let it slide this time.

C O P E

Not only it's true, but in some respects Severance has reached heights never touched by souls (decapitations, shield breaking)

Yes it did

>decapitations, shield breaking
If you actually played the game instead of just watching some random webm's, you would have realized that those "features" are just a meme.
But souls itself is pretty basic too.

Right, severance is actually a good game compared to those soulless kusoges.

Realism doesn't always make for good gameplay

I hate soulsfags so fucking much. No acknowledgment to older fromsoft games like Kings Field but some random old ass PC game that I doubt any Japanese person has ever touched

>breaking shields and decapitations aren't fun
fucking kill yourself

After the 40% point you're really only using special moves, out of all the extraneous features in the game.
It's the maps that really stick with me, though, thinking about Severance. Loved them all and the enemies work perfectly for them. It predates King's Field 4 and makes KF maps look like a joke.

HELLO?

there are so many games that are so much better then dark souls in terms of gameplay but 99% of modern gaymers are retards or zoomer that only care about shit that their favorite internet friend lets player plays
just depressing

I highly doubt From took any inspiration or even heard of this game when making Demon’s Souls. It’s just some BS marketing to sell to Dark Souls 3 zoomers.

what do these old ultima style games have to do with a third person action game?

>there are so many games
Such as? Niggers like you always fucking disappear if someone asks for examples.

Kings field and ultima are pretty different games. You’d know that if you’ve played either of them.

They're first person dungeon crawlers. Nothing in common with a souls-like

>every 3rd person melee game with lock on is a “soulslike” now
it’s all so tiresome

just because you don't like it doesn't make it any less true

dark souls and souls games in general are a genre which understands the origins of games and stays true to them while also avoiding forced trends for normalfags they're not even supposed to be high selling games and were never intended to sell as much as they do now. I gotta be honest its thanks to Yea Forums that Elden Ring exists

Step aside, juniors. Real ancestor coming through.

well I mean christ shouldn't the genre name be like oot-like instead?
unless there was a game with oot's mechanics before oot.

King's Field was one of the main inspirations for the concept of the Souls series, but they weren't just trying to update it or make a successor. Wizardry was another inspiration - they wanted to make a hardcore-feeling RPG like that, except the bullshit would all play out in real-time action combat rather than menus or the clunkier King's Field style. They'd played Monster Hunter and Bushido Blade before Demon's Souls, but weren't consciously trying to emulate either, even if stuff like that may have influenced the development. Miyazaki actually didn't set out to make the series "hard" per se, he just wanted it to be a worthwhile challenge. That's it.

God severance parry and blocking mechanics were so much better than any other third person sword & board. The way it works with the movement system is so good. You want to first up rely on positioning, and the clunky as fuck movement actually does a great job at making positioning somewhat deep, neither you nor the enemies have the kind of floating tracky movement of modern sword and boards like dark souls or nioh, instead you have to think ahead and any movement is a commitment.
If you DO find yourself out of position, you can dodge, which can be dangerous since you can very likely get smacked for a huge chunk of hp since you don't get iframes but hey its better than nothing and if you know which attacks telegraph and are easy to dodge you can use it to get in range of an enemy and smack them with a heavy hit that would usually force you to trade.
But then there are cases where your back is up against the wall. Your positioning is fucked and you don't have the room to dodge. That's when you parry, you parry because you're on the defensive and you just need to make yourself some room. Its totally different to dark souls or any of the action games, its not about fishing for attacks so you can stun the enemy or get a riposte.
Then the icing on the cake is the durability system, severance really is the one and only time a durability system has been a good idea. Not only is parrying a measure of last resort, but that's hammered in by the fact that parrying two or three big hits is just going to shatter your sword. So it really gives you the feeling of being on the back foot and spending resources to try and make space to go back on the offensive.

>people keep calling them soulsborne
>they're actually just dungeon crawlers

Why are people like this? I've even seen nu-Fromsoft fans getting angry and defensive when people call them dungeon crawlers but that's what they are.

You are right, die by the sword from 1998 did.

How did we go from THIS

Attached: file.png (278x357, 167.73K)

Nightmare Creatures was more Souls-like.

To THIS

Classic.

What this really does is sort of force you on the offensive. Circle around an opponent to bait an opening then hit with your heaviest hitting combo until it fucking dies

Well later on once you have the really fuckoff massive swords with dragonball z attacks and enemies have huge swinging hits the combat tends to boil down to that a lot yes.
The game peaks around halfway through.

I'll just call you a nigger and move on.

you are retarded

>10 years and fromsoft still can't get past the SPAM I-FRAME ROLL DUDE LMAO "gameplay" despite the fact that they made a game like Sekiro that was fucking awful
If their next game is more roll spamming, they've officially given up and took the easy way out to just milk soulsniggers.

They don't take place in dungeons and you don't crawl in them.

youtube.com/watch?v=4tbcZvGSgVk
youtube.com/watch?v=Egad_InYl6I

Not only is the gameplay engaging but it's not the reason why From games are good, if you think so you're retarded and probably play pvp "competitively".

NOOOOOOOOOOO
My Japan Masta Race

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Remarkable that there's so few dungeon crawler action RPGs. I just one a real time action version of nethack. Not roguelike with 3d graphics. Proper 3d movement and combat, but keep the stuff like wishing wells you can throw coins into and all that kind of gimmicky goodness that makes nethack fun.

This is like the dev of Nightmare Creatures saying they pioneered Bloodborne.

Jogger opinion.

Souls combat is very shallow and pales in comparison to other action games like dmc and god hand. But the places where souls games are unparalleled in are level design, art direction and immersion. I’ve never ever played an installment of another series that consistently sucks me in for 6+ hours a pop without cutscenes, loading times and handhold-y nonsense. It’s incredible how long you can go in these games without it forcing you to stop (unless you die,of course) which is something that I think MANY more games should strive to do

I played every King's Field including Eternal Ring and the only similitudes between them and Souls are the bleak desolate worlds

Not that user but, like, FPS games were called "Doom-likes" at some point

DMC is boring as fuck

fix your teeth ricenigger

Those games go for a different feeling.
Would you also call silent hill's combat "shallow" compared to dmc? Imagine silent hill with dmc combat, what would be the fucking point?
God people like you are fucking retarded.

thanks for reminding me this exists when its on sale.

>you would have realized that those "features" are just a meme.
I have and they're not. Dismemberment elevates the game greatly

What does it say right there dummy? It fucking did, stfu

Yeah, given that "Soulsborne" is a fucking meme genre, it most certainly did because it did all the things that DS did but first.

Dude, they even ripped off Dragon's Dogma for the controller mechanics in DS3 and pretty much most of it with ER. From are hacks, you only have to see that shader lag in action to see that.

Dungeons in RPGs don't have to be an actual fucking dungeon and that's been the case since original D&D. The only reason they're even referred to as dungeons is because Arnesons original fantasy campaign had a dungeon in Castle Blackmore filled with enemies and lot, that's it.

To be fair, Dungeoncrawlers are First Person turn based RPGs, like Eye of the Beholder, Grimrock, etc. DS/ER are 3rd person aRPGs. There is certainly no such thing as 'Soulsbornes" that's for sure. It's a meme genre created by lazy gaming "journalists".

Soulsniggers deserve to fucking die

Never get sandwiched like that : all the enemies on one side, especially when they can hit each other.

Give me kingdom hearts combat in a roguelite/like setting and I'm totally fine with that. Make it as hard as you want, I just want more games using kingdom hearts combat.

Blade of Darkness is based and I want to play more games like it, but the publisher trying to sell it as the predecessor to Souls games was a pathetic move

Yeah that's cool, except in reality all you do from the mid game on is spam the special attacks of whatever power weapon you're using. Late game you're just firing beams from your moonlight greatsword and any actual game mechanics are tossed out the window in favor of nonstop special move spamming.

Not that user. But, Rune 1, and well known M&M dark: Messiah, then this wizard game I forgot its name of, lichdom battlemage.

can you blame them? souls is selling hotcakes and they want some
btw, this is a great game and it is in fact alot like the souls games
