A game like BotW is simply beyond the talent and/or corporate mandate of most developers.
Most game studios are not going invest millions of dollars and years of development in to creating entirely new game engines and THEN trying to create a game using that engine - putting hundreds of thousands of hours into play testing and refinement to ensure it wasn't a completely fucking broken mess. It would take YEARS.
Most developers don't work like that. Investors will say "we want to see a game by Christmas this year". So developers don't have the drive or even the freedom to attempt something like BotW.
Instead they'll just halfass BotW's ideas into existing game engines like we've seen with Genshin Impact, Fenyx Rising, sable and Elden Ring
So while BotW may have a lot of wisdom to impart to other game developers, we may not see the gains for a long long time

There are taverns in Skyrim with more people than there are in entire settlements in BOTW. Its a good game but it's held back by the fact that it's on shitty console like the Switch which has the same processing power as a mobile phone.

Many studio got the wrong idea about what is BOTW and how to top it, and in the end they missed like half the features. Look at Horizon, Elden ring, or cyberpunk, at heart they wanted to be botw, but they didnt' study the source enough to "get it".
