Oblivion Appreciateion Threat

Why do people pretend that Oblivion isn’t the best elder scroll?

>actual good writing compared to Skyrim
>best combat in the entire series
>comfiest setting
>most soulful music
>star power in the form of the emperor, mancar cameron
>most soulful UI in any RPG
>acrobatics and athletics are 100% more useful
>best guild quests in the series save for Morrowind’s great houses

morrowtrannies trying too hard to fit in

This feels like bait from 2012

It's a good game in many respects, the great house quests are awesome in Morrowind but the guilds dont get very good until the very end. there is less guild content overall in Oblivion, but apart from the Mage's guild recommendations its all good

>Fighters Guild
>Mages Guild
>fucking Arena
>good
Hell no. The guilds had a small handful of cool moments but overall they were a direct downgrade from Morrowind

oblivion is an awkard middle line, skyirm is a better action experience and Morrowind is a better hardcore RPG experience. morrowind is better because?

Yeah man. Defending pillows, finding ingredients, and collecting guild dues were a lot of fun.

Great logic, let me turn it around on you.
Yeah man. Fighting trolls, killing 999999 necromancers, and dueling generic arena combatant #637 was a lot of fun.

Thief's Guild and Dark Brotherhood are also extremely overrated in Oblivion.
The concept of doing smaller heists to then go and steal an elder scroll is very cool - but the execution, of the story and of the level design of the heist itself, is extremely disappointing.
The dark brotherhood quests are also in the majority lame, some sounds cool in theory, like the "Who did it?", but in practice even that is extremely linear in a way that fucks up the whole concept of the quest.

It may or may not be the best but I fucking love it

It's buggy

quality > quantity

Morrowshit quests are all copy/paste chore garbage that may as well have been written by an AI while oblivion is filled with memorable quests. The only morrowind quest people remember is the flower collecting one because of how ridiculously tedious and boring it is.

So is Morrowind and Skyrim

>quality > quantity

Too bad Oblivion does the opposite when it comes to both the Open World and Dungeon design.

>quality > quantity
you retards always say this and ignore that over half of oblivion's tiny amount of factions are shit, there's tons of shitty/average quests no one remembers, the open world was proc genned and filled in with speed tree, the dungeons are extremely boring due to the copy/pasting, there are barely any decent characters, most of the perks are fucking shit, fucking etc
kill yourself

Ya like Morrowind doesnt have generic temple dungeons that are 3 rooms each. With nothing but some ashes and a couple hungers.

>YAAAAAASSSSSS I CANT WAIT TO TRAVERSE FEATURELESS UGLY MUSHROOM LANDSCAPE AND EXPLORE ANCESTRAL TOMB #4950620 AND DAEDRA STRONGHOLD #95403 SO FRIGGIN EPIC AND UNIQUE

yes it was fun

Yea and Oblivion has the same shit but stretched across way more rooms (and almost no hand placed shit) so it takes even more time to do less.

You are a great game and I will fucking kill you! This is a threat.

>Oblivion Appreciateion Threat
>Threat
I YIELD

The persuasion minigame is terrible, and so is the rest of your fucking game.

I was addicted to Oblivion as a teen and I can say with 100% certainty it is complete shit without a hundred mods. Even the basic shit like the third person camera is horrible with that obnoxious lag.

All the games are handmade, they only computer-generated flora and rubbish placements.

I wont fight you

I feel like I'm the only one that liked the conversation pie. Maybe just because it was really easy to influence people with it.

>if I pretend to not understand him that means i win argument
Grow up

>The persuasion minigame is terrible
Why, and relative to what?

If you meant scenery and loot, there's some in every room, so that's not even a misunderstanding, it's just plain wrong.
Also
>complains about things taking too much time
>plays morrowind

Wouldja take a look at this thread, not a spine in sight!

You cant taunt people into attacking you like you can in Morrowind

>complains about things taking too much time
That's not the complaint, the dungeons are longer but we as players gain nothing from their new length, in fact we've lost shit like the artifact dungeons or just the better loot/dungeons/enemy placement in general. Walking into a dungeon in Oblivion and seeing 5 trolls in one room at level 20 just made me want to turn the fucking game off. It's shit and fuck you for even trying to defend it.

The similarities of some of Morrowind template mini-dungeons at least make sense.
In Oblivion it's a bunch of natural rock formations that are useful to navigate in certain way copy pasted all over.

You think they'll ever do an industrial revolution for their next game?

>industrial revolution
Those elements already exist with the existence of the Dwemer

>Why, and relative to what?
Why is because it's immersion breaking to play a little minigame when you're trying to influence people. Not to mention you have to go through every option on the wheel, so every time you talk to someone supposedly you're admiring, joking, boasting and coercing them. So you can't just try to compliment a guard to see if his mood improves or something like that. Not that TES games have the best speechcraft system in any iteration, but it's really dumb in Oblivion.

>bribery is level scaled
Did they really think level scaling was this cool?

Dogshit LOTR ripoff with cringe architecture and world building. If you weren’t a 5 year old when it came out you’d realize it’s one of the most bland and uninspired video games ever made. At least Skyrim had some semblance of originality despite also being made for mental runts

Well that's understandable, but it's a criticism of the level scaling implementation, mostly.

Don't play Daggerfall.

>best combat in the entire series
wut. i think its the worst. it feels like ass

comparing it to Morrowind's shitty dice rolling, and Skyrim's nerf-sword slapathon, it is a breath of fresh air.

The whole game is an eyesore

It's definitely shittier than both of them. Morrowind's starts out painful but you fucking destroy later in the game, and Skyrim has much less aggressive scaling and more things you can do in combat. Oblivion is the irredeemably shit one that just gets worse and worse as you play.

The ONLY good part was Jeremy Soule's music, and the modern Oblivion NPC memes that put that music behind schizos on the street.

youtube.com/watch?v=R4GlR6X4ljU

What? Oblivion was also a nerf sword slapathon but everything had inflated health too.

Oblivion was even MORE floaty and plastic feeling that Skyrim was, how the fuck can you gaslight yourself into thinking it was better?

A power fantasy isn't engaging activity.
Scaling isn't the combat system.
>more things you can do in combat
Less spell effects, no actions while swimming or airborne, quick cast replaced with shouts, no running or turning while attacking, and the whole fatigue mechanic was gutted. No there isn't.

Spells and bladed weapons feel infinitely better, and on top of that, your skill in weapons matters a LOT more in Oblivion than Skyrim, it is weighted terribly in skyrim and at the very least, Oblivion you can fine-tune the health with a slider. in Skyrim there is none of that. It's default, x25 or x50.

>Scaling isn't the combat system.
Yes, how could I not notice the amazing combat system behind the scaling? Oh yea because the scaling dictates how nearly every combat encounter in the game plays out and it's obnoxiously broken. You are genuinely mentally ill if you're seriously trying to assert the combat is good if you take away how it actually is to play.

My favourite games are Arena and Daggerfall (original, not DF Unity). Haven't played the Ngage spinoffs, Redguard, Online or Battlespire.
I just wish that Arena had more of the stuff Daggerfall has, like actually being able to walk to other towns and melee attacks missing less, then it would by my no.1 in the series.

It's ugly as fuck
>Noooo the heckin saturated to hell environments tho
Don't care everyone has down's syndrome.

>Yes, how could I not notice the amazing combat system behind the scaling?
I mean encounters where the balanced isn't fucked are a lot better, yeah. Everyone recommends using mods for that like FCOM, Oblivion XP, or Balanced Creature Stats.

Yeah as opposed to Morrowinds Browns? or skyrim's whites?

It's so close to being perfect, but holy fuck the world design is so shit

Knew there had to be a punch line at the end.

Have you ever seen a crowd do the tomahawk chop?
You now know what melee combat in Morrowind is like

blow away, windbag.

I accept! I have no choice!

>but apart from the Mage's guild recommendations its all good
The recommendations are the interesting part. Once you enter the College, it's all boring garbage for the Arch mage.
I mean I've completed that questline at least 15 times and I can't remember any of the final missions. But I do remember that one about the dude that drowned thanks to the extremely heavy ring, and that one about the invisible khajit playing a prank on the naive guild leader, or even that one about the stolen staff.
I dunno, there's a certain charm in all those characters you meet along the way.
