I swapped to japanese for like 10 minutes before I realized that all of the post-battle dialogue was without subtitles and I wanted to understand what everyone was saying.
After that the english voices just sort of grew on me, despite some key moments falling flat due to Rex's delivery.

DLC is pretty good, a lot breezier compared to the main game as well. I think it’s paced a little better too, although I still prefer the main game’s story

It's not, but it adds some neat tidbits and helps fill out the characters. Rarely too plot relevant, so you can look it up after playing if you're interested.

There are legitimate complaints about the battle system (like half that shit only being included just to see big numbers, leading to bad game design because now even level 10 monsters need a trillion HP to be worth a damn) but the UI is not one and never will be.
