Could've been as big as RE. Why did it die off so early? What went wrong?
Could've been as big as RE. Why did it die off so early? What went wrong?
While I had fun with the game, it wasn't exactly special. It was a RE clone with dinosaurs. Who is scared of Dinosaurs?
I think Capcom should remake the first two games as third person shooters. Or maybe the first one would be first person/vr and the second one would be third person action. It's literally RE with dinosaurs. They are sitting on a potential goldmine and wasting it. Them Jurassic World movies are popular, I don't see why they don't bring this back.
>Why did it die off so early? What went wrong?
Technically 9/11.
Cast and story wasn't great
Key cards: The game
I used to be scared to death of dinosaurs until I was like 7. Jurassic Park was synonymous to a horror movie for me.
3 sucked a fat ass. Just like lost planet 3 or Dead space 3.
Solid horror first, action sequel, 3rd fucks it to hell and the publishers move on
God I loved all those games
9/11 had no impact on a ps1 dinosaur game. literally what are you talking about.
Huh, PE follows that too.
I would like to see you ask that in front of a fucking actual T-Rex
Capcom was going to make a more traditional third game with dinosaurs overrunning an entire city (I believe New York was rumored). But they worried it would "offend American sensibilities" after 9/11, so they decided to go in a completely different direction. So instead we got this game, which killed the series.
A lot of movies as well. It's actually alarmingly common.
It was hard as fuck compared go RE. Fast, strong enemies. Graphically impressive tho for ps1
The Dino Crisis series and how it evolved is literally a microcosm of the Resident Evil Series and how it evolved. Dino Crisis 1 is the survival horror entry like the original RE games, Dino Crisis 2 is the one that threw away the survival horror aspects and turned it into an action game like RE 4 and 5, and then Dino Crisis 3 went off in another direction and made things way too ridiculous and was panned by nearly everyone, just like RE6.
>Dino Crisis 1
Key cards to find key cards to find key cards to solve a puzzle to open a door: the game
>Dino Crisis 2
Legit good game
>Dino Crisis 3
A fucking mistake
>Dinosaurs in general
No longer the interesting almost mythical creatures we loved in the 90s
And honestly, given the potential of the RE engine, Capcom somewhat figuring out what people like about their action games and that they have a model to make a good looking Regina, they could pull off a decent Dino Crisis 1 remake
Why not just make it in a non american city? Such a drastic change was unnecessary if thats what they really wanted to do
Damn, they could make that game now in RE engine and it would probably do really well.
Third game tanked it
Everyone was being a coward after 9/11. Anything involving cities in general were considered taboo.
This had more action and less faggot puzzles, so this game is already better than those resident evil games.
>and less faggot puzzles
It's been...decades, but I remember that first game having very hard puzzles.
Putting Dinos in a REngine game would mean they’d have to pay a lot of attention to how they act. They’d have to give them all sorts of different animations and non combative behavior. It’s much easier to just make zombies or mold men.
Yeah, it's work, but not beyond Capcom internally.
Yeah they could but they won’t. Same people that just immediately started cutting corners like crazy between 2 and 3 remake. They don’t want to try hard. They just want you to buy it anyway.
>They’d have to give them all sorts of different animations and non combative behavior
Thats what killed JP Trespasser.
It’s honestly a big ticket thing. It’s a dinosaur so people will want a lot out of it. It’d be a huge effort. Lots more for the AI as well. Not just for stalking/hunting the player, but for idle things as well.
I barely remenber anything about the first one, but I vividly remenber the second one and how lil junior retard me was able to 100% it without any sort of guide, hell I think I even beat it before the internet existed or I had access to it in my home.
It was also an xbox exclusive which was weird, especially since its a jap company
>I think I even beat it before the internet existed
Its from 2000, so no.
First one is very puzzle intensive, even the item boxes are a puzzle, with only certain types sharing the same pool and others being locked and you have to use finite items to decide which type of box you want to access. Locked rooms have multiple keys to find and then a puzzle on top just for one door. Honestly probably the most puzzle intensive fixed camera survival horror of its era.
Sometimes I wonder if Capcom did that on purpose, like they knew that it'd run their image if it was on Playstation.
This was during the Capcom Five. I’m assuming it might’ve had to do with capcom trying to veer off from Sony.
>faqs on gamefaqs for dc2 from 2000
>actually have been there for 22 years
huh...
In my opinion alot more can be done with dinosaurs than RE. With RE its the same tired organization using humanoid experiments with some variations of one another. We've been discovering new species all the time, learning new info theres hundreds of these kinds of animals to pull from. They don't even have to be carnivores. A sauropod is 100x more dangerous than some slow zombie or Nemesis. Hell you could even pull from other time epochs like the Cenozoic or Permian era, which DC has done since 2 has Dimetrodon. Or throw in a Kronosaurus or Deinosuchus. The fact that they haven't utilized any of it is criminal.
I loved 1 and 2 as a kid, but in hindsight I see why it didn't really take off. There wasn't a whole lot they could do with it compared to RE. The first one is also basically a puzzle game, being puzzle-heavy even compared to RE1. The second one is more of a repetitive hallway shooter.
>Why did it die off so early? What went wrong?
the 3rd entry
The duality of man
>Why did it die off so early?
Mikami stopped making them.
The most interesting thing about Dino Crisis is how it was Mikami's idea to try and make it not "survival horror" like RE1, but a new genre called "panic horror" and it sure was. That sequence in the roof with the huge Dinosaur still gives me a heart attack when I replay the game.
Possibly, I never had an xbox growing up or else I would have gotten it. I loved DC 1 and 2 and I blame Regina for making me love red head girls
Was this the same thing they did with resident evil and nintendo?
the whole game feels like a Doom level
kek
>Could've been as big as RE.
You wouldn't want that.
>Why did it die off so early? What went wrong?
>female protagonist
Dead on arrival.
>female protagonist
Why's Tomb Raider still around?
Dinosaurs have a very niche appeal.
As in being sold off?
It still exists more than DC does, so why?
>Could've been as big as RE. Why did it die off so early? What went wrong?
Ignoring the fact that it was released around the time of RE3 and near the end of PS1's life, there are three major flaws with Dino Crisis.
1. Halfway through the game all the puzzles get repeated but are just slight variations.
2. Not enough enemy variety
3. Shooting dinosaurs with darts isn't as cool as blasting them with visceral shotgun shells
Dino Crisis 2 fixed the latter two but that game threw out survival horror for an arcade shooter. From this point the IP had an identity crisis which was by the look of things cranked up to eleven with Dino Crisis 3. I never got to play it so I can't give an opinion of what the game was like.
>Halfway through the game all the puzzles get repeated but are just slight variations
This happens almost instantly. There are so many fucking puzzles in Dino Crisis 1 its kind of unreal
It never established an identity for itself and the first game didn't exactly set the world on fire
1 - Samey environments, constantly respawning bullet sponge enemies, ridiculously quiet dialogue, endless fucking keys
2 - Fucking brilliant stop gap between classic RE and modern RE, sadly overlooked
Dino Stalker - Underrated and the closest thing to a genuine Dino Crisis sequel we'll ever get
3 - Never played it but everyone hates it
This industry doesn't have a future with female protagonist. It is what it is.
He should make a new male protag game if he wants his new genre to be taken seriously like what Hideo did with Death Stranding.
that's a pic of Uirusu's OC Hanny not Regina
Second game was way too action. The third game was the nail.
>that's a pic of Uirusu's OC Hanny not Regina
I don't give a shit, she's looks like Regina which is all I care about.
Didn't it mostly fall off due to scientists being niggers and intentionally making dinosaurs lame as fuck?
They said spiders were too hard to make so I don't hold out much hope for them making dinosaurs.
Fag hands wrote this post
By the second game it had already become an arcadey shooter
>t. wants to bring video games to die with him just because he thinks he can pass
You won't faggot.
Dino Crisis 2 was a dumb childhood masterpiece for me. I beat it like 5 times back to back. I hated that scuba level like none other though.
The best part was when you get the anti material rifle and you just stack the combo points like no other. The Shotgun for Dylan was great too, especially after you upgrade it to the eternal blow out.
It fell off because dino crisis 3 sucked and so did jurassic park 3 so the 10000 iq men in charge thought dinosaurs were done. But then indie developers made a bunch of games with dinos that sold well, biggest being ARK so it just proves that people still like dinosaurs, you just gotta make a good game to pair with em and not just a quick cash cow
